Valerie Simpson and Nick Ashford wrote some of the best songs for Motown and then had an amazing solo career with their WB and Capitol albums.
Working with Diana they pushed her and brought out the best. I believe her albums with Ashford & Simpson are her best recordings.

I had the honor of meeting Valerie Simpson at her bar/restaurant The Sugar Bar. I'm sure she thought I was a little weird because I was sooooo star-struck that I fumbled with my speech and I kept staring at the poor woman. I couldn't help myself. I was talking with Valerie frigging Simpson!!!!

❤ I could sit listening to Val recall distant and recent memories of her experiences until SHE got tired...because overflow would only come from the fullness of love in having that opportunity!❤ Sure do love you Val.

I love Valerie Simpson but her song catalogue is a fraction of Carole King's. I do think Valerie's best songs are better than Carole's (Ain't No Mountain High Enough, You're All I Need to get By, Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing)

Come on .... Ashford and Simpson are absolute musical geniuses. They should have got every accolade possible awarded to them while Nick was here to accept and receive them.
To top it off the are beautiful people. Humble and supremely talented.

Is she saying Diana was a lazy vocalist? Which has been said before. Nick and Val pushed her that's why vocally her best work was with them.
