Very nice project. One suggestion - put a small piece of felt where the nails hit the sides of the box to silence them so there's no hint that something needs to move inside.
So, after the build & reveal, the best part of the video screened. Now all those who think magic happens easily in a woodshop are enlightened on what it takes to get to the finish line. Well done. Loved it
I like your style of comedy... fits my personality. Also, I know there needs to be a balance, but simple free plans like this really brings people in. IMO.
Many thanks, I've been looking for "plans for simple wood projects" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Yanathew Wood Waggler - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now )? It is a good one of a kind product for building amazing sheds and your own wood work projects without the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
I made one of these in shop class back on Middle School. Found the box while doing some spring cleaning (Quarantine!) And couldn't remember how to open it, haha. Thanks for the video! Finally got mine open.
Fun little project, Drew, and a clever locking system. As for the broken belt sanding belt, all's not lost, cut it up and use it on your block sander....
Thanks, Loved the trick. Mostly it is magnets or levers. Also admitting that it takes a few takes in making a good a video. The tools on the wall, so neat. Grandma would be so proud of you.
very nice build and I knew how it worked before you started but watched anyway - I find watching these kinds of builds to be soothing and very relaxing.
Thanks Drew. This is a awesome design for a trick box. Your instructions made the build go real fast. I made a couple other centrifugal boxes with marginal success. But this one works great. I made a couple of modifications that worked well for me. On the bottom I used 1" square feet with felt on the bottom of them. I put 1 foot in the middle and doubled the felt so it was slightly higher this allows it to spin real nice. I also, cut the channels attached to the top in half and put a piece of cardstock between the halves. This prevents the rods from sliding beyond half way into the channel. The rods were occasionally not sliding out when the box was spun.
Drew, I've been watching your videos today and you my friend... are hilarious! Your videos are so well put together and informative, but the funny commentary and ending them all with the outtakes is awesome! Thank you for such enjoyable content!!!
The way you narrate your videos makes woodworking seem not as hard I pictured it would be. I swear you're like the Bill Nye of youtube projects/tutorials. I hope 2020 will have many more to come.
Hi Fisher, I stumbled over you channel a few days ago and I liked you from the first video. Cool projects, cool guy, funny, not afraid of making fun of yourself, honest enough to also show the outtakes - and not only the things that go wrong with the filming but also with the woodworking. Way to go!
Awesome box. A long time ago I bought a small toy in Missouri that was based on this same principle. It resides in Jones Barbershop in Pensacola, FL where it continues to puzzle customers today. Young and old alike have fun with this. I plan on building this box.
My grandpa used to make wooden puzzles and used this method in one. He died right before I was born and no one else asked him how to do any of it. Thank you.
So, I've been watching wood working youtube vids for 6 years, how is that I'm only just seeing your videos now..? damn YT algorithms.. love the outtakes Drew.. ;)
This is the first video I've seen of yours. I really love the out-takes. It makes me feel good to that someone who makes some awesome stuff can still have some difficulties. Thanks and great project and video.
Excellent video again, thanks mate, well done. If I may add just one small tip. I often have to brighten up small rods of aluminium and brass for my wooden clock projects and I found that instead of sanding them by hand, I found that I can just slip the rod, or nail in your case, into my drill press, spin it up and a light touch with some wet and dry sanding paper that bingo, instant shine. Stop the drill, flip the rod end for end and repeat light touch of sand paper and the whole rod is nicely shiny and smooth without losing more than just a teeny bit of diameter, can’t really measure, and saving myself a lot of energy trying to sand them by hand. Thank you once again for another very good video and design and please don’t take my tip as a criticism in any way, it’s just something that has helped me and hopefully will help you and others. Thanks again and ten thumbs up from old old Australia. ✔️👍🏻🇦🇺😎
Yeah, someone else mentioned that tip as well and once I read it I smacked my forehead and thought, "Why am I so dumb sometimes?" I definitely should have done that. Thanks for watching! :)
Love the outtakes! Thanks for posting them :) Hard to realize sometimes that everyone has the shop snafus going on. Burning pieces and things flying around! LoL!
This is the very type of mechanism I was looking for, and done in such a way I think I can make it myself, with a few personal flourishes. First time on the channel, but not the last, thank you for the video and the plans. Also, thank you for the outtakes, nice to know the people I'm learning from understand imperfect folks like myself.
Awesome build Drew! My son would love a box that locked like this - especially if he were the only one of his siblings that knew how it opened! I may have to make him one.
Haha, thanks Doug! You know it probably wouldn't be hard to incorporate multiple locking systems in the same box. So that you had to spin it to unlock 2 of the bars, but magnets to unlock 2 more. That would be taking it to the next level! Man I'd love to see what you would come up with!
Awesome box, thanks. I think I can do this and love using the wood floor plank idea. Please provide a link to the plans. I might be to new to RUclips to find them if you already linked.
Cool project. For this amateur wood hacker, I found it easier to make the finicky nail/bolt channels first and then add the rabbet joints on the box sides to fit & eventually sand everything down flush. Cutting 3/16" pieces of wood is a tolerance I can only approximate in my dreams.
Very nice project. One suggestion - put a small piece of felt where the nails hit the sides of the box to silence them so there's no hint that something needs to move inside.
I am glad you include your outtakes including the fires. Other youtubers make me feel inept with there perfect videos.
Wow, this old video shows how you improved in everything, specifically extra pounds. The best channel now. Thank you and keep it up.
Thanks! Well, I've recently lost 20lbs and I plan to lose another 20. :)
@FishersShop 🥹🥹🥹 good luck
I made this and gave it to my son in law as a Christmas gift tonight. He loved it and everyone loved how the locking mechanism worked.
YOU WIN!!! For most tools used in DYI RUclips video!!
In all honesty, great craftsmanship and instruction. Keep up the great work.
Thanks!
So, after the build & reveal, the best part of the video screened. Now all those who think magic happens easily in a woodshop are enlightened on what it takes to get to the finish line. Well done. Loved it
"OH CRAP, set it on fire again!"... lol you have the best youtube personality! Love the content
Great build. My 10 year old son has recently become obsessed with :puzzle boxes." The looks like some we could build together. Great job!!
I like your style of comedy... fits my personality. Also, I know there needs to be a balance, but simple free plans like this really brings people in. IMO.
Love the outtakes. They give a little reality to the build.
really enjoyed the out takes, shows that you are human like the rest of us. the box build was great swell
Love the out takes because that is what really happens
I made one of these in shop class back on Middle School. Found the box while doing some spring cleaning (Quarantine!) And couldn't remember how to open it, haha. Thanks for the video! Finally got mine open.
I have started making these types of boxes for the kids in my neighborhood birthday gifts, they are so much fun to make.
Fun little project, Drew, and a clever locking system. As for the broken belt sanding belt, all's not lost, cut it up and use it on your block sander....
Exactly what I did!
Wow! Your work is so pricise. Good to see a real craftsman. They are rare indeed.
Thank you very much!
i like the way you have to unlock it very genious
You always amaze me lol. You humor 🤣 is what sets you apart from other woodworkers
I literally gasped when he showed how to unlock it! Really cool
Clever design!! I for one would never think that centrifugal force would do the trick.
You could hint at that by leaving it on top of a Lazy Susan!
Loved the project and the added locking system. I plan on making one. Fortunately, I have some floorboards laying around. Thanks
Go for it!
Great fun :) I will try this. Thank you :)
Made one for one of my grandsons for Christmas; I'm sure he'll love it!! Thank you so much--love your channel!!
Excellent workmanship.
another thing of beauty Mr fish and I love the outtakes please keep doing them there's nothing more human:)
Really nice box and great approach to making it locking and easy to unlock.
Thanks 👍

Clever additions! Nicely done! :)
My grandson will love this, thanks
Outstanding! You're more than welcome.
Thank you for the free plans.
You bet! Have fun
Love the outtakes! Not many people on RUclips have em and I think its the reason I subscribed, good content but love the humor!
Drew, I've been watching your videos today and you my friend... are hilarious! Your videos are so well put together and informative, but the funny commentary and ending them all with the outtakes is awesome! Thank you for such enjoyable content!!!
Thanks much, Matthew! :) Thanks for watching and commenting!
SWEET! Very cool - you are correct. Nicely done.
The way you narrate your videos makes woodworking seem not as hard I pictured it would be. I swear you're like the Bill Nye of youtube projects/tutorials. I hope 2020 will have many more to come.
Thanks Jacob!
Love that simple but awesome I think everyone loves the spin move.
Awesome little box. I literally was amazed at how it opens. Very clever design.
First time watching.. Thank You for showing awesome way to build. Easy to understand.
HA....That is GREAT. Well demonstrated and many details that I needed. GREAT JOB and Thank you.
You're very welcome. Glad you liked it!

Fantastic! And very generous of you too. Thank you
Great box idea... will give that a go soon for sure. My daughter will love it
Have fun!

Barry (ENG)
Thanks, Barry!
Brilliant no useless chatter, precise and to the point.
Now I have an idea what to do with the pile of scrap hickory flooring a friend gave me!
Nicely done!
very cool vid! No crap, just good instruction...Thank YOU!
Guinness ! Oh man love to see all your work thanks for sharing .
That is a very interesting box! Who would ever think to spin a box to get it to unlock?...Really cool!
This is the first video I've seen of yours. I really love the out-takes. It makes me feel good to that someone who makes some awesome stuff can still have some difficulties. Thanks and great project and video.
Thanks, Ryan
Nice job, simple but elegant and effective design. I'll give it a try.
Awesome, have fun building it, Roger!

Very cleaver build. Thanks! And thanks for the outtakes! That's real life!
I have been looking for an idea on how to secure something in a box and this is perfect. Thank you for sharing.
You got it, Will
Sun, and Rain. very nice.
Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. Solid skill, great narration, humor, and outtakes.
Thanks!
Thank you for this video. Really cool build. Nice looking box. I’m just getting into wood working a little bit
Very nicely done, both the box and the video.
Thanks, Everett
That is an awesome box. Something cool to try out on my down time.
Run a pipe cleaner through the kerf channel before the glue dries to clean up any squeeze out glue.
Not a bad tip, thanks Mike!
A straw also works well
for this situation, i lay a bit of rope in the channel, glue & clamp the pieces, then pull the rope out. slick & quick.
Could always just re-drill the hole after it dries.
I do it the fast (and messy) way. Blow compressed air through @140psi and watch it fly out the other end.
Agreed. That is too cool. I love stuff like this. I'll be making these for sure. Thanks.
Awesome box! Very tricky lock, I like it! Thank you.
Thanks, Robert! Glad you liked it
Way cool! Never thought of a locking system like this.
Really cool idea. I wondered until the end of the video how to open the box again. This spinning around is great👍
Glad you liked it!
Great to watch and inspired to build Thank You heaps.!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to help
Great work, Mr. Fisher. You've earned yourself another subscriber bright and early on this Monday morning. Keep on keepin' on!
Thanks Phillip! Glad to have you!
i like the "fails" at the end of your videos... its nice to know im not the only one that it happens to
Thank you Mr. Fisher!
Great project.... beautiful work....I WANT ONE.... I guess I had better get busy.... thanks for sharing

LOL, love the outtakes! Great little box. I have zero talent for wood working but loved watching.
That's freaking awesome. Your mind works different than everyone elses. Good idea.
Awesome build Drew! My son would love a box that locked like this - especially if he were the only one of his siblings that knew how it opened! I may have to make him one.

Have fun!
Great job comes at the right time for my next Christmas gift
Just stumbled on your videos. Some of the best on RUclips. Easy to follow and all around fun to watch
Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the free plans. I modified the plans to drop a secret compartment from the bottom using your plans.
Well executed my American friend. Simply stunning. Well done. Kind regards Danny UK
Thanks, Danny!
