On The Scene: Clouds of smoke rose about Kyiv and explosions were heard on Monday (July 8) as Russia launched a barrage of missiles on the capital and other Ukrainian cities in a rare daytime attack killing at least 36 people across the country and hitting a key children's hospital in Kyiv officials said. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy vowed retaliation for the strike, speaking at a news conference in Warsaw with Polish prime minister Donald Tusk.
