I agree that the shop is a bigger factor. If everybody's half assing, and you're taking 5 extra minutes to do it right, you're in trouble. I've never been a mechanic, but plenty of other businesses that have the same problem.
Yeah It's a tough balance to maintain, not taking "too long" without dropping quality. Add to that a shop a bad shop policy and easy to been seen as a "bad employee" when you ain't
If they work in a dealership....mmmm, about %110
Lol
Watch the movie "the invention of lying".
Looks fun, added to the watch list, thanks
I’ve worked at two shops with 20+ different mechanics and techs. I have yet to see a dishonest mechanic. I’ve seen cars come in from other shops also. I’ve seen some dishonesty from the quicklube places but never from an actual mechanic shop.
I believe the majority are good. Like 80%. With the quick lube places i guess 0% lol. I've heard a common scam with them is saying your bung is stripped, showing you a stripped bung from another car. Upselling. So not the worst but still a scam
It's bad y'all. Especially transmission shops. Bad.
my estimate is 80% are good and it's the few bad that ruin the industries reputation
@I_wouldnt_take_my_car_there I feel like even the "good" ones replace parts that don't really need replacing and/or markup parts way too much. For the dishonest shops- there are sooo many ways to defraud the customer, especially people unknowledgeable about cars. Even when there seems to be business integrity, I've had other issues like my paint getting scratched up or grease on my seat/steering wheel. It's a total crap shoot and I just do all the maintenance and repairs that I can my self because I don't wanna deal with it. Buying a bidirectional scan tool was one of the best things I did as a home mechanic.
I swear thats a kiwi accent! Hows it going mate hope all is well in the states
It is! And yup going well. People drive crazy over here though lol we get angry about being cut off in nz...that's the least of your worries around here. I was so sheltered
None
lol. I think it's 80% good 20% bad
