      depends on what brand of resin you are using, you want to make sure you are mixing to the ratio of resin to hardener that your brand calls for that it will for sure cure and harden correctly. some times if you do not add enough hardener it can take days or weeks to cure if it ever will fully cure but it just depends on the brand and the ratios used!

    • @JessicaStear
      @JessicaStear  3 года назад

      I have tried it both ways! I saw more cracking issues when I didn’t wait the full cure time of my resin which is 24 hours. Now I wait a day or so to put the hooks in, I ALWAYS drill it out. If you just screw in the hook it causes pressure which can crack the Keychain. I find my electric drill easier but the small hand drills arnt horrible either just take longer!

    • @JessicaStear

      That’s awesome!! So the ratio of hardner to resin depends on what brand of resin you are using! Always make sure you are using the correct amount! Dry time as well is diffrent by brand!

      Digital Darkroom ikr! This was the very very last of my resin and I notice when I am using up the last of it it’s sooo hard to get rid of bubbles! My bigger pieces I never get this issue but with these small keychains I love the effect of having the bubbles in there as well it gives it a cool effect with the hearts in my opinion but yeah totally the end of my resin plus small projects I don’t want to overheat of ruin a mold by trying to heat them all out!

    • @digitaldarkroom07
      @digitaldarkroom07 4 года назад

      Bubbles don’t make it look more expensive. Bubbles are a bad side effect of resin. Super clear resin is something to be proud of. It takes patience and knowledge of your medium to get THOSE results. If you like bubbles, good for you. As an artist, I find customers do not. To each their own.

    • @shlarpoo4937
      @shlarpoo4937 3 года назад

      While I don’t currently have any specific brand I can recommend I can make a list of some things to start off :)
      1. Obviously if you want to do letter keychains you will need a mold now on Amazon they’re are tons but not all might be amazing so make sure to read reviews
      2. Eye pins or jump rings now eye pins can cause cracks in your resin keychains if you put them in after 24 but if you were to wait a bit, It’s less of a gamble
      3. Hand Drill, they’re are tons of resin hand drills and they are only optional you can drill eye pins in by hand but it may be better to use a hand drill if your really trying to save sum moolah then some drill sell for cheap and come with eye pins together
      4. PIGMENTTTS Now when I started doing resin I didn’t have these so you don’t need them right away make sure to type resin pigments in Amazon
      6. Dried Flowers, Again optional but can make your keychains super cute
      7. Anymore add insult you can find resin can’t really be set to a list find things you’d think would be cool encased in resin like charms glitter really anything you can even make “diamonds” with resin just gotta look for the right mold
      Now I would recommend the resin I use but it can be quite expensive, I use ArtResin although there are other brands out there don’t be limited to one brand do some research your doing great by coming here and looking at people do resin and are able to see their processes

    Hello, I have tried to do this keychains I follow all the steps but I put the screw and about 4 hours later the resin breaks where the screw goes, do you know why?

    • @JessicaStear
      @JessicaStear  4 года назад

      Yeah so a lot of people seem to have an issue with this, it could be when you screw in the hook, there is pressure when it’s on a keychain which causes it crack, or if the resin isn’t fully fully set I was noticing cracking as well, what I started doing is drilling a hole first, then putting resin, IG resin, or glue on the eye hook before screwing it in so that it is in there very secure. Since doing that I haven’t had any issues with cracking!

  • @celinesankar2023
    @celinesankar2023 3 года назад

    Hi i would like to ask a question when you are making these do you necessarily need to put hardener with the resin or can you just use the resin alone?

    • @JessicaStear
      @JessicaStear  3 года назад +1

      Yes you need the hardener. Without it the resin will not ever set! Different brands call for different ratios of resin to hardener so pay attention to the ratio because if you do not use enough hardener your piece will never set and it can be sticky, or flimsy and super malleable. My brand is a 1 to 1 ratio so the exact same measurement of resin used with the same amount of hardener:)

      Make sure you are using the correct resin to hardner ratio. Every resin is different with that ratio so you want to be sure you are using enough hardener because that’s what I’ll keep your price from never setting. Plus resins can take awhile to fully cure. It could be 48 hours later and it finally is hard as a rock. Weather can play a role in it as well. If it is too cold the resin can have issues setting

    This is an awesome tutorial. Have you ever had any issues with the eye pins causing the resin to crack?

    • @JessicaStear
      @JessicaStear  4 года назад +5

      Yes actually I have! I had that issue when I was just shoving the eye hooks in without drilling, then I got a little like turn by hand drill and still It was a small hole I had to screw the hooks into and they would crack, I started slowing down the process! I let my keychains sit for a day or two to fully cure, I drill a bit bigger of a hole using my drill in this video but just twisting it around to widen it a bit, and now I dip the screw part of the hooks in resin and then screw them in so the resin is a added thing holding them in. I think what causes the cracking is the pressure and or when it’s on the keychain just being rough with it, but after changing to waiting a bit, bigger holes, and resin setting them in I haven’t had any issues with cracking!!!!!
