  • coming back to an issue I've had in the past . stay and watch the whole vid please. there is something with this and it's starting to get annoying. very strange I've never seen another vid on RUclips or post of anyone with this issue . I'm also not knocking the tuner that emailed me, just stating that was his fast response and nothing else. for him to say it's normal and always going to be there I've never seen another vid on this lol. thanks

    For anyone who doesn’t know. The feedback knock is the realtime knock value, the knock learn is corrections to mitigate the knock. The DAM is the range of timing your engine has to play around with.

    2002 wrx... I get a 4.22 usually. Lowest is .35 but I drove around today and it only does it at a certain throttle position. Like barely on the gas, just enough to keep it at the same speed. But today I held it at that same throttle position (just got over it and was gonna see what happens 🤷‍♂️) and it adjusted and I watched the fine knock learn drop every second or so. Went from 4.22 to 3.8sum the low 3, high 2 and so on. Eventually it corrected itself and stayed at zero. Idk wtf is causing it. I know the car is due for plugs and stuff. Oil change is always done at 3k miles or even a little sooner but idk.

    Seems totally fine, especially being as FA20 wrx's have two knock sensors and they are direct injected engines which are more prone to knock events (sometimes false knock). Also there was a recall for thw knock sensors themselves on the fa20's. Check out a video from "flatirons tuning" in which they sit down with a very knowledgeable & articulate tuner. He goes in depth regarding feedback knock, fine knock learning, and DAM (dynamic advance multiplier) . You are monitoring that on your accessport, i can see. And its at "1.00" .. which is great. That where it should stay, so id say, dont freak out and watch the video i just suggested.

      I appreciate the comment. Unfortunately, my issue is most likely the carbon build-up on the valves . It didn't do this for 3 years and started getting worse from this video all the way up till now. I thought it was the tune , I was wrong, plugs, mas aur flow sensor, leaks, everything you can think of, and I was wrong. I've narrowed it down to needing the walnut blasting. But unfortunately, lovely subaru doesn't offer that as a maintenance, which they should like BMW and other car companies. As for the knock sensor being what's year was that cause I've looked my Vin up many times and never had that pop up. Do you know what year that was ? Last it does go down from one, all the way down to stock numbers which are 688. Goes back up on long drives and when I dip into the throttle. Got to the point where I just ignore it and say whatever now cause until I find a shop that does the cleaning I can't do anything about it.

    • @palaciosfreddy9189
      @palaciosfreddy9189 Год назад

      Are you stock for the most part, as far as performance parts are concerned or built engine? You will most likely get rid of carbon build up on valve using a bottle of seafoam. Run it through a vac line, the engine sucks it up, smokes alot, then fill up and drive after the smoke dissipates.

    Having same kinda issue, I’ve changed the spark plugs 2x with less then 5k on first set and 1k on second set. After watching ,
    ks noise, im getting high readings from cylinder 1 & 3. I’ve used COBB stage 0 & 1 tunes with same issue of feedback knock and fine knock at low rpm’s. I’ve brought it to a shop and they couldn’t replicate and was told everything was within normal and no issues. But I know for sure something’s up and can’t figure it out

      Dang man sorry. I cleaned my mass air flow sensor and a few other things to try and narrow it down. I'm gonna do a compression test this sat and if it goes good I have an appointment at a shop that tunes and works on nothing but these cars. So hopefully they can find out what's going on. 6 years never ha feedback knock and fine knock learn like this . All started to get worse when I got 14 gallons in gas from wah wah. Not saying that's the issue but damn the knock I'm getting at wot and the sound is horrible. If I drive normal and everything thing else , it doesn't make a sound. It's pissing me off

      @@somersfamily the weird thing is my 18’ doesn’t have any noticeable issues during the times the gauges spike. I know my a/c compressor/bearing is starting to go and needs replacing. But dove to work today with it off and still got -6.33 fine knock learn but without and feedback knock. So I’m confused as hell as why there is not feedback knock during most of the times I have fine knock learn readings. I religiously change oil every 3k, don’t beat on her, air filters changed 5k miles ago, aos. I might try new coil packs or fuel injectors next. Please update after compression test. That has crossed my mind more then few times.

      @@mEtALmAN1486 I'm checking the plugs and coils on Sunday even though I did the plugs last Oct. A buddy at work hooked up his computer and it read I have a misfire in cylinder 2 which is the side I'm hearing knock in. So trying to run the gas out I bought when all this happened and check the plugs. Cobb told me is may be carbon buildup and I might need a walnut blast. But the dealer charges 600 for that.

      @@somersfamily I changed all 4 plugs at 34k, and just changed both cylinder 1/3 @39k miles. I’m probably going to change the coil packs and see if that does anything. It’s only giving issues when I get on her, any higher the 7-8# boost. AF ratio seems good, but still getting a lot of KS noise from the right side of engine (cylinder 1/3).

    I would try flashing to the 91 Octane tune if you're currently on the 93. I was getting some very erratic FKL and DAM would never reach 1 as my commute is also relatively quick stop and go. Flashed to the 91 tune and DAM hasnt moved from 1 and I've only ever gotten the typical -1.4 FKL during hard pulls. Best of luck

  • @LousWRX
    @LousWRX 2 года назад +1

    Hi Eric, another thing you can try doing, is try the 91 Octane Stage 1 tune. A lot of people who experience issues like this say lowering to a lower Octane tune fixes the issue. I would try that, and also do try the regular Cobb tune as well, if the issue still remains with MAP 91 Octane tune. That's really the only other thing I can think of trying if you haven't already done that.

    • @somersfamily

      Thanks buddy. It's really annoying cause it comes and goes only at that rpm. I wish I could just floor it all the time but unfortunately I can't lol. Thanks ad always dude. I'll keep you updated and see what each do.

    • @somersfamily
      @somersfamily  2 года назад +1

      Also maybe a stupid question. But if I put on the stage 1 91 tune can I still get 93 octane or do I just stick with 91 octane? I think I could go with a higher octane but just wasn't sure

    • @LousWRX
      @LousWRX 2 года назад +1

      @@somersfamily Yeah generally you'll still use 93 Octane fuel. In my area the choices are 87, 89, 93 so yeah you would still need to use 93, as 89 is still too low. And even on the stock tune, premium fuel is still required. I'm running a 91 tune on my Accord, so I'm stll paying for premium 93 Octane fuel though. Normally though my vehicle runs fine on 87 Octane gas while not tuned.

      @@LousWRX thanks buddy. I'm gonna wait for the heat to cool down and check for loose nuts and bolts to. Cause when I start it up I hear a slight rattle in the exhaust system . So maybe it's just a clamp or something loose I'm hoping that's causing a sound and vibration at that certain rpm. Thanks again pal

      Damn dude that sucks. My issue will never be figured out, I think. I'm pretty sure it's the carbon build-up on the valves, and lovely subaru doesn't offer a maintenance like BMW does for that, which is a joke cause it's an issue with the fa's. I called a shop that was supposed to do it, and the guy ended up ghosting me. I got to the point where I don't care anymore cause I've been dealing with this for over 2 years now and if it does down in dam and I have weird fkl I just drive a certain way for a few minds and it goes back up.
