honestly that scenario sounds interesting, though I imagine Asia would be a chaotic battle royale in such a timeline. the Chinese sphere in china, north korea and central asia, the Russian sphere in North Asia and Eastern Europe (though Poland, Romania and anything west of those would side with the EU), the Saudis and Iranians in the middle East, the rise of India in South Asia, and US allies of Japan, South Korea and Australia in the western pacific
The reason why Kazakhstan was the last to leave the USSR is because Nursultan Nazarbayev (the first president of Kazakhstan from 1991 to 2019) could become the next leader of the Soviet Union after Gorbachev. The Soviet elite wanted to see someone non-Slavic or even non-European as a leader because it could resolve conflicts between different ethnic groups and reduce national movements within the Soviet Union.
Just being pedantic here but: Stalin wasn't a Slav (Georgians are arguably European...I only say arguably because some people argue against it); Lenin was ethnically half-Asian; Yeltsin had visible Asian ancestry.
Yeah, but Lenin and Stalin were not the only men who ruled the Soviet Union. There were also Khrushchev (Russian, ruled from 1953 to 1964) Brezhnev (Russian, ruled from 1964 to 1982), Andropov (mostly Ukrainian, ruled from 1982 to 1984), Chernenko (mostly Ukrainian, ruled from 1984 to 1985). Yeltsin was a rival to Gorbachev and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. So as loyal and experienced state worker as Nazarbayev (who ruled the Kazakh SSR at that time) with typically proletarian past (he used to work at a metallurgical plant) was a perfect candidate for this role.
I'd say a slightly less unrealistic scenario is not only Kazakhstan but all of Central Asia stays in the USSR and after Russian pressure, they rebrand. Maybe they can come up with a deal of allowing a 6th seat at the security council

Day eight of asking for videos I'd like to see. -What if the confederacy won the civil war. -What if Italy was militarily competent in ww2 -what if Italy sided with the allies in ww2 -what if the dinosaurs never went extinct (this isn't really history but still cool) -what if the cold war went nuclear -what if Italy sided with the central powers -what if Charles Babbage had successfully completed his analytical engine
For the second scenario, the European Axis could win WW2, or the war drags into the late 1940s with a much more damaged and radioactive Europe, unless this causes Italy to have too much power at the negotiating table with the surrender of France that causes them to not capitulate. For the former, the UK would rush to the negotiating table to save their territory and prepare for war by early 1941. Germany doesn't have to aid the Italians, and can start the invasion of the USSR earlier. The USSR would also mobilize their forces closer to the border, but this just means that they would what forces they had quicker. The Germans manage to take Moscow just before the invasion halts, and morale and the logistical importance of Moscow cause the USSR to be in a far weaker position. More resources that were used on the UK are also used in the USSR, and the US might join the war later due to the UK not actually fighting Germany in late 1941. The war would be a grind for the Germans, but they could take enough territory and enough of the USSR population that the USSR can't draft them, nor equip them due to less of an industrial base. Also, there are questions over if Iran would be invaded by the British if they refused to allow the supply of lend lease to the USSR through their borders depending on the peace treaty they sign with Germany. If Germany does manage to win WW2, they will either collapse in on itself due to its plunder-based economy and dealing with too much rebellion within its controlled territories, perhaps with the military couping the government to establish more friendly relations with the rest of the world and to limit German imperial ambitions to something more achievable. Japan might not surrender due to a lack of any fears of the USSR occupying them. This means a much more bloody Pacific campaign for America, with it having to extinguish not just the Japanese forces in Japan, but all throughout East Asia. The communists wouldn't control all of mainland China, but they could still have large enclaves scattered in the north and west. It would take a while for the KMT to consolidate control over the entirety of what we call China. Some parts of Russia not controlled by the Germans, like Kazakhstan, may gain independence from the USSR, but its a toss up on how much Siberia balkanizes. There would be no Cold War, and the Americas are likely more progressive due to a lack of a Cold War with the USSR that led to the redscare and Operation Condor. The European empires would be so much more broke, and Marshall plan aid being so much thinner, that colonialism ends quite a bit faster, and with less formalised agreements in favour of the former European Empires. America might return to a degree of, while not isolationism, non-interventionism outside of the Monroe doctrine. Global trade will, in contribution to this, also be much weaker in the long run as East Asia and especially Europe are much poorer. There is also the possibility that India isn't partitioned because the UK can't afford the resources to oversee the partition because they are still worrying about their military buildup to fight the Germans again.
@@Darkness-yn5us What else would it ripple into? Past territorial ambitions in MENA, what would make this scenario different to normal Axis victory scenarios, which, while unique, usually have some key notes for the key types of Axis victory scenarios? I guess one thing that could be added is that Italy is broken into more states because it is considered dangerous. Since some of the northern states/the northern state would likely be socialist, it could serve as an inspiration for other socialist movements.

Wdym by this scenario? Pilsuski forces Lithuania into a union aftet ww1? That would change absolutely nothing tbf. Poland-Lithuania is divided in ww2 and the USSR splits Lithuania as a SSR while Poland becomes independent.
@@PioterCygan ah so not reform as in reestablish but as in political reform. The practical answer is that this was practically impossible as the Sejm was the worst. But a scenario where the PLC reforms politically during its peak is interesting. Any timr after its peak, it will eventually be torn apart by its neighbors.
@@duckling3615 Nah i mean that in the 18th and 17th century the Commonwealth would implement reforms that would strenghten the nation by managing the sejm better and give peasents more rights and it could possibly even be alive during the Napoleonic Wars and bring French victory since they knew how to fight in colder climates.
Could you do an what if France partitioned Algeria after the independence war or what if the Pied-Noir declared an UDI shortly after French withdrawal, declaring a Rhodesia like state and creating Berber autonomous zones as allies against the FLN. Essentially continuing on the war. You could dive deeper into the regional relationship with such a state and with the outside world. Here are starting changes: Higher Pied-Noir population: In this timeline the French would initiate a more agressive settlement policy of Europeans during the early years of French colonization aswell as using the refugee and population movements across europe after ww2 as an oppurtunity to attract settlers from across Europe. Thus the Pied-Noir would have a population between 2 Million. Making them 20% of the population Putschist Garner more support: The Putschists are able to garner more support both from the Pied-Noir population and high ranking officiers in metropolitian France. By being less hard lined in their plans than OTL. Optional Changes: (Keep in mind that the Butterfly effect would likely cause the Factions such as the FLN to have different names and de gaulle most likely being replaced by a similiar person or someone else) Prelude Much like in OTL, the French forced Algerians to fight for it's cause in exchange promising more freedoms, autonomy and independence. After WW2, similiar to our timeline Setif and Guelma protests erupted in Constantine within Arab quarters demanding equality and justice. This was violently put down in 1945, leading to the Constantine riots where Arab mobs lynched Pied-Noir civilians, killing 120 and followed by harsh Revenge massacres commited by the local Garrison and colonial police, leading to 320 dead Algerians. Aswell as many other humiliating actions by the French authorities. The first time, the white and green Flag with a red crescent was flown during the protest. Another protest in 1946 in Saïda led to the brutal Saïda massacre where 200 protestor were killed in cold blood by the local Battalion and Colonial police. This led to the groundwork of future Algerian resistance and caused many Algerians to view violence as the only option for liberation. Beginning: (The war would start in 1952, as a consequence of French rule in ATL which is more brutal) Decades of brutal occupation, mass murder, land confiscation and ongoing war has lead to de Gaulle reconsider Algeria. Despite promising to stand by the Pied-Noir, de Gaulle was very aware of the precarious situation France was in. He eventually accepted the plans of the FLN to grant independence to Algeria under a federative system, where Berbers, Arabs and Pied-Noir could live together peacfully. Although this soon blew back. OAS Leaders (and other radical settler militias) were causing hevoc in Algeria both against Algerians, Pied-Noir and the French military. High ranking French Officers both in France and Algeria were very discontent with this plan and were keen on keeping the war going, despite rising French discontent. The Putsch In 1961 the Algiers-putsch overthrows the government of de Gaulle and establishes a Military Junta. Consolidating it's power during it's early years through media censorship, Pro-French propaganda and significant repression of freedom of speech and opposition parties from 1961-1963. Following this, the Military Junta would intensify the colonial war by cracking down greatly in Algeria and using the OAS as an ally against the FLN (unlike de Gaulle who greatly suppressed the OAS). Military conscription and service would be mandatory with long service terms, the settler population would be mobilized with the help of the OAS, whom the military junta would try to propogate as guardians of Pied-Noir interests. The French military would train the OAS and turn it from a small fringe group into a full scale paramilitary organization and auxulluary force of the French Military. The OAS would greatly expand it's influence during the time from 1961-1971. Adding onto that, the Junta would try to aggressively expand the Harki regiments through economic, political and various other incentives (such as forced conscription). Especially from Berber Regions (from Tribes and Elites considered Loyal). Among this, the OAS in an attempt to garner more support would rebrand itself to the ODA (Organisation de Défense de l'Algérie). Aligning itself with the Junta stance. Domestic Unrest: In Mainland France there would be an increased civil unrest in face of increasing repression of the Junta, forced conscription, further losses and Political isolation of France. Leading to protests and strikes, which in turn cause harsh repercussions by the Junta between the period of 1961-1971. Sustained and intensifying conflict: The harsh counter-insurgency tactics, collective punishment, massacres, torture and extreme repression of Algerian resistance and militarization, would lead to escelation of the war. The FLN would greatly intensify it's operations across Algeria. The ODA and Harkis would greatly increase their numbers from 1961-1971 and would engage in brutal warfare against the FLN with the help of the French Military. Calls for autonomy Realizing the difficult position it is in, the French junta would allow for more autonomy of it's Pied-Noir population and significantly expand autonomous zones for the various berber tribes such as the kabyle and tuareg, in an attempt to sway loyalty of the berbers and divide and conquer aswell as decrease rebel activity in 1962. This would greatly help the ODA, as it could now garner more support through it's political wing in face of further radicalization of the Pied-Noir population. The French Junta would also encourage taking in European settlers fleeing from decolonization, as a mean to increase the Pied-Noir population. Fall of the Regime: In face of increasing Instability in Mainland France and an attempted coup attempt in 1970, the French Junta is forced to abdicate in 1971 and allow civilian administration back. Leading to the eventual withdrawal from Algeria. Paramilitary Factions were an important aspect of initial French colonization and solidifaction of colonial rule. The first Milita were created by Napoleonic war veterans during the first phases of colonization from 1830 onwards. After 1880, most Militias were formerly integrated into the local Garrisons, Colonial Police and Administration. The independence war in 1952-1971 caused a resurgence of self-defense Militias, as the safety of Pied-Noirs became uncertain. Culminating in Radical Paramilitary groups such as the OAS in 1961 and after Junta takeover, the ODA, FLAS and CDA. Main Paramilitary Organization Organisation de Défense de l'Algérie (ODA) - Defense Organization of Algeria The ODA formed after the OAS rebranded itself to align closer with Junta interests and attract a wider following amongst the Pied-Noir. While still very hard-lined, the ODA was more moderate in comparison to it's OAS past or later Radical offshoots. Cooperating very closely with the Junta and being armed and trained by the French Military. Like the Junta, the ODA accepted formal establishment of autonomous zones to the natives (Mostly to the Berbers) and had great support amongst the Pied-Noir population both because of the increasingly precarious situation and Government/ODA sponsored propaganda. Radical Offshoots Front de Libération de l'Algérie Supérieure (FLAS) - Front for the Liberation of Superior Algeria: This Radical Offshoot of the ODA wanted to continue the old OAS tradition and absolute Pied-Noir supremacy over all Muslims (excluding the Harkis and loyalists). Launching especially brutal massacres, tortures and counter-insurgency tactics. They were notoriously known for their widespread use of hanging Algerian corpses in the streets of possible FLN sympathizers in an act of terror. Corps de Défense Algérienne (CDA) - Algerian Defense Corps: Even more Radical than the FLAS, the CDA didn't accept the Harki auxulluary forces and wanted a 'pure' European defence Force. Leading to them clashing often with the Military and ODA. Their horrific and gruesome execution methods and beheadings were known, aswell as their use of parading 'living trophies' of captured FLN-symapthizers or accused sympathzisers driven through the streets of Pied-Noir quarters These various Pied-Noir Paramilitary Forces unified into the official Armed Forces of the République Algérienne, after the partition.
Maybe the Americans will support Soviet Kazakhstan against Russia and they will maybe even join NATO and also Transnistria would be a part of USSR because they wanted to
Here are few suggestions: What if Germany persued an alliance with Britain before WW1? What if the US joined the Central Powers in WW1? What if the US achieved total victory in the Vietnam war? What if everything went perfect for imperial Japan?
Video Idea: The New Union Treaty is adopted and the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics is formed, and maybe go a step further where this new union remains in a state of continuing democratization. I think a timeline where such a state becomes less corrupt, more enticing for foreign investment, the state itself invests more in infrastructure/social services instead of military buildup, attains higher standards of living, better combats their population decline, its citizens gain more freedom, and possibly joins the EU is fascinating. Russia and the whole former union has massive resource, intellectual and economic potential and to see such assets be used on a liberalizing, modernizing nation would be so stark from our own timeline. It sometimes makes me sad to think of militaristic and aggressive dictatorships/autocracies that have so much to give themselves and the world if they focused on internal development and personal freedoms.
The real alt hist question for Kazakhstan though is What If the Northern River Reversal was actually done? i.e. soviets re-directing the Ob (using dams and canals) to the Aral Sea. Would it fill up the Aral? Maybe so much that the Aral even gets an outflow? Which would be into the Caspian. Thus making the Caspian Sea flood as well.

@@lljkgktudjlrsmygilug I think the ripple effects of such a scenario would ensure that WW2 is fundamentally altered in ways which cannot be predicted
Since some of the northern states/the northern state would likely be socialist, it could serve as an inspiration for other socialist movements.
very nice

The video I have long awaited has arrived.
Yay a video about bestest nation kazakhstan! :D
1:38 That said, Kazakhstan holds the uranium mines (Semipalatinsk) and Rocket Launch Site (Baikonur) of the USSR, denying Russia the "can destroy the world" part
6:47 What are those little light blue areas on the US?
Native reservations
Yes, *YES!!* I always wanted such a video.
Anyways though, I really feel bad for Russia in this scenario, they may have been poked to no avail in our timeline, but THIS level of intentional antagonization is truly insane... But I guess a very American thing to do. I'd love to see a followup scenario where Nato does collapse and Russia joins EU.
The soviet union still exists if you count translvania (communist part of moldovia)
USSR being predominantly Turkic 😂
2:05 Greece number third in the world 💪💪💪
10:25 and if Russia don’t have the seat… the council could decide to sent UN soldier to stop the invasion of Kazakhstan…. Like in 1950 in Korea.

do a what if every communist country joined the soviet union like China, Mongolia, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, East Germany, Yugoslavia, Poland, Albania, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Laos, Cambodia, Grenada, South Yemen, Ethiopia, Somalia, Madagascar, Angola, Malawi, Benin and Republic Of The Congo
Now it really IS best country in world.
VERY NICE!
Can't wait for the "What if Poland Lithuania reformed" since it's an interesting concept only a few tend to speak about.
agreed mate
Wdym by this scenario? Pilsuski forces Lithuania into a union aftet ww1? That would change absolutely nothing tbf. Poland-Lithuania is divided in ww2 and the USSR splits Lithuania as a SSR while Poland becomes independent.
@@duckling3615 we dont talk here about Inter-war period. it is about Reform of the PLC in 18th century

Here are starting changes:
Higher Pied-Noir population:
In this timeline the French would initiate a more agressive settlement policy of Europeans during the early years of French colonization aswell as using the refugee and population movements across europe after ww2 as an oppurtunity to attract settlers from across Europe.
Thus the Pied-Noir would have a population between 2 Million. Making them 20% of the population
Putschist Garner more support:
The Putschists are able to garner more support both from the Pied-Noir population and high ranking officiers in metropolitian France. By being less hard lined in their plans than OTL.
Optional Changes:
(Keep in mind that the Butterfly effect would likely cause the Factions such as the FLN to have different names and de gaulle most likely being replaced by a similiar person or someone else)
Prelude
Much like in OTL, the French forced Algerians to fight for it's cause in exchange promising more freedoms, autonomy and independence.
Beginning:
(The war would start in 1952, as a consequence of French rule in ATL which is more brutal)
Decades of brutal occupation, mass murder, land confiscation and ongoing war has lead to de Gaulle reconsider Algeria.
The Putsch
In 1961 the Algiers-putsch overthrows the government of de Gaulle and establishes a Military Junta.
Domestic Unrest:
In Mainland France there would be an increased civil unrest in face of increasing repression of the Junta, forced conscription, further losses and Political isolation of France. Leading to protests and strikes, which in turn cause harsh repercussions by the Junta between the period of 1961-1971.
Sustained and intensifying conflict:
The harsh counter-insurgency tactics, collective punishment, massacres, torture and extreme repression of Algerian resistance and militarization, would lead to escelation of the war. The FLN would greatly intensify it's operations across Algeria.
The ODA and Harkis would greatly increase their numbers from 1961-1971 and would engage in brutal warfare against the FLN with the help of the French Military.
Calls for autonomy
Realizing the difficult position it is in, the French junta would allow for more autonomy of it's Pied-Noir population and significantly expand autonomous zones for the various berber tribes such as the kabyle and tuareg, in an attempt to sway loyalty of the berbers and divide and conquer aswell as decrease rebel activity in 1962. This would greatly help the ODA, as it could now garner more support through it's political wing in face of further radicalization of the Pied-Noir population.
The French Junta would also encourage taking in European settlers fleeing from decolonization, as a mean to increase the Pied-Noir population.
Fall of the Regime:
In face of increasing Instability in Mainland France and an attempted coup attempt in 1970, the French Junta is forced to abdicate in 1971 and allow civilian administration back.
Main Paramilitary Organization
Organisation de Défense de l'Algérie (ODA) - Defense Organization of Algeria
The ODA formed after the OAS rebranded itself to align closer with Junta interests and attract a wider following amongst the Pied-Noir.
Radical Offshoots
Front de Libération de l'Algérie Supérieure (FLAS) - Front for the Liberation of Superior Algeria: This Radical Offshoot of the ODA wanted to continue the old OAS tradition and absolute Pied-Noir supremacy over all Muslims (excluding the Harkis and loyalists).
Their horrific and gruesome execution methods and beheadings were known, aswell as their use of parading 'living trophies' of captured FLN-symapthizers or accused sympathzisers driven through the streets of Pied-Noir quarters
These various Pied-Noir Paramilitary Forces unified into the official Armed Forces of the République Algérienne, after the partition.
Maybe the Americans will support Soviet Kazakhstan against Russia and they will maybe even join NATO and also Transnistria would be a part of USSR because they wanted to
YAY I'VE ALWAYS WANTED THIS SCENARIO
Probably nothing. But it'd be funny! Think of the confusion. It's glorious.
If they get sanctioned though I wonder if they become big north Korea.
Probably not it’s just not worth it to be north korea
Nice
Here are few suggestions:
What if Germany persued an alliance with Britain before WW1?
What if the US joined the Central Powers in WW1?
What if the US achieved total victory in the Vietnam war?
What if everything went perfect for imperial Japan?
What if Gran Colombia survived?
Basically just “What if the USSR got taiwaned”

Can you please make a part two? a EU + Russia vs. US + China + Soviet govt. in exile cold war 2 scenario seems genuinely interesting
Day 1 of asking what if Antarctica was inhabited when it was discovered.
9:41 false… in the 1990 the red army was…. At all level as weak as Luxembourg. Just look the war in Grozny… 3 month to take a city who have only people with no tank, no plane to defend the city… imagine… take all the Kazakhstan 😅😅😅😅 ! Impossible ! And Russian don’t have a single dollar or roubles to invest in this war… Russia was just in a position who the can just said « ok but i’am angry… »

USSR: “…and I took that personally, for I am the USSR.”
