I dont know what your history is with Monster Hunter, but the recolors arent something they did just to fill out this game's roster, theyre from the mainline games. The same holds true with the mystery health bar for new foes. In mainline games you get mo indication other than their behavior and your own reckoning. Being a mh fan before going in does help smooth the rough patches like the samey dungeons but I completely agree that having to go from lvl 1 with new eggs no matter your stage of the game really got old
I’ve been spotted 😂 MHS2 was my first proper go at a MH game, I’d played demos on the past on 3ds but never really touched it properly. I can see that being a big MH fan would definitely help, but going in completely new to the series can be a little rough at times, but overall I definitely enjoyed the game. MHS3 gonna be good though 👀
@@J1mothyyy I REALLY hope they do a 3rd because I genuinely enjoyed MHS2 though I also hope they comtinue the trend away from kids anime tropes like Navirou. Also, making your companion rathalos was one thing. But naming it Ratha the same as the first game was just dumb since they are not even related. But yeah the subspecies are a thing in the mainline games, though the "its the orignal but a different color with a new move/element/effect" is something theyve been steadily moving away from to give them more identity.
I tuned Navirou out most of the time, I've seen a lot of fans hate him with a passion, but I just think he's on the same level as Claptrap lol. As a newcomer to the series, Rathalos was a cool companion, I can understand why its annoying to have almost a duplicate start to the sequel, but I can see why they did this, as Rathalos is a pretty cool companion in general, and they wanted to engage a lot of people (like myself) who didn't own a 3DS/Play MHS1. Subspecies makes sense, but its nice to hear they're steadily moving away from that
@jimjambutt the name was just a nitpick. Even as a kid I didn't like characters like Navirou but he wasnt TOO bad. My one real gripe was Razewing Ratha losing everything unique about him after gaining his wings. Even his kinship attack is a slightly reskinned normal rathalos one. Major missed opportunity to make Razewing stick in the fans' memories
I hope we get a third game that adds in the Insect Glaive and Charge Blade, I think it’d be cool to use them in turn based combat. Also hopefully it’d come out after Wilds and we’d get the new monsters from that game.
A third instalment could be pretty cool, and with the new monsters from wilds it’d be even better. Probably wouldn’t see that till a few years after wilds releases based on the gap between the first 2 games 🥲
I got this game when I bought my switch along with a copy of Legends Arceus. Let's just say I started LA 3 months later than expected. I was happy Scarlet/Violet adopted the mount system to a limited extent.
That’s fair, I only got round to playing MHS2 about 6 months back 😅 Definitely glad to see SV has brought the mount system in, it’s a great change Have you played the DLC? Cause you get some mount upgrades in the second SV dlc
The dungeons are randomly generated. That is why they can look samey. Leveling monsties is not a big deal. They level up faster in your party but you can send them in missions to level by themselves. This game is a gem in the rough. For me, this is more enjoyable than the main line Monster Hunter. There is a surprising end-game, in line with monster hunter titles. The main story is not where it ends. There are many challenging and cool monsties to collect and new armor and weapons to craft. I think Monster Hunter Stories 3 might actually hit critical mass with more improvements. I'm looking forward to it.
That makes a lot more sense to be honest. I know you can level them in those ways but when you need to get a monstie up to late game Levels from level 1 it’s definitely inconvenient 😂 I never got into the post game, partially because I’ve got a stupidly big backlog 😂 Maybe I’ll go back to it one day, but it’s definitely paved the way for MHS3 to be really good

Oh I didn't know that, that's kinda cool What I was meaning, and maybe I wasn't overly clear, was like how in Pokemon when you fight a new Pokemon, they have a visible health bar that has colour indications for how much health is remaining, whereas this game doesn't do that till you've beaten it at least once. That was my gripe haha

Well you capture monsters, you level them up, you let them fight for you.... So it's basically a Pokémon-like game, and since it's way better than the last Pokémon games on switch (like Legends Arceus) it's definitely a Pokémon killer.
@welovegamestv1207 I wouldn’t say it’s better than PLA, PLA was a fantastic game for the most part. Battling wasn’t great, but everything else was awesome
@@J1mothyyy I find it technically pretty messy. Thank you! Palworld is pretty fun, the more I play it the more it feels like Pokemon Legends Arceus meets Survival games 😂 Font is Space Comics I think
I'm not going to sugar coat it. I've already played this on Steam. I've included a copy of my review below: The game is a tale about friendship. You form bonds with monsters, and call them your "Monstie" (like "Bestie.") However, this is pretty much its only real story plot point. There's no real overwhelming "Despair" ever introduced, and the "End of the World" is easily brushed off by the end of the Main Story. Characters will also often forget plot points that were literally just introduced a few minutes prior at times. Most of the characters come off as bland or uninspiring, and the "Mascot" of the game, the "Legendary Hero" Feyline is the worst character ever, somehow coming off as more annoying than anyone in the entire game, and SOMEHOW gets something to stand on in almost EVERY cut-scene. As for the gameplay, the game has a problem where it brings too much to the table. It over-saturates the game with mechanics brought over from the Main Series of Monster Hunter games. Such as weapons having elements, armor having elemental defense, and the need to carry multiple sets of armor, as each piece of armor also comes with a weakness. Upgrading the armor doesn't lower the weakness, and instead increases the weakness. The Rock Paper Scissors system only exacerbates the issue at hand, causing even the lowest of enemies to have a longer battle. Equipment, specifically weapons, cannot be "Unequipped" to have a slot have nothing. Meaning you have to take on a quest/etc. after you gain access to the Smithy to get enough money for your second or third weapon, or a replacement weapon for your greatsword, as you could only have enough money if you unequipped said greatsword/etc. to forge another weapon like the Sword and Shield equivalent starter weapon. At level 99, your character won't have much HP/defense/etc. on his own to even take on enemies easily mid-late game despite enemies all being able to be taken care of via "Quick Finish," (Which can only be used if all of the enemies you're fighting have been defeated before; this is likely another staple brought over from the main series, where stats don't matter much in some cases. You have to meticulously plan your encounters. The environments are somewhat well-thought out, at least for the main open world areas (Where flying is enabled) and towns. Every other area in the game is just a bunch of prefab sets of land strung together, even in the main story "dungeons." This gets real tiring very quickly, especially when they make you trudge through long dungeons because of it. The only real interesting dungeon was the tower in the desert. The music is great, but this is offset by the fact the music is completely silent when on any field. Towns and battle have looping music. However, battle music is off-set even further by the most annoying "Intro" music that often doesn't fit well with the looping music that it accompanies. The graphics are also nothing to write home about. The game is clearly optimized for lower power consoles, and it really shows in this PC release. Character facial animations can get really bland fast except for a select few characters with interesting designs, such as Yoomlana. Mouth animations are broken into "Closed," and "Talking." The closed mouth de-renders the mouth inside, likely in an attempt to optimize the game further for said lower power consoles. This can cause issues where fangs/etc. in the characters' mouths will not appear for a frame or two when they open or close their mouths. In addition, most monster eyes are flat textures, and have just a few frames of animation between them, this can cause there to be a delay on when the eyes "close" on monster defeat, where the eye close texture isn't loaded as fast as it should, and may even cause there to be a frame of solid monster flesh color in the place of an eye. In short, this game is not worth the 59.99 USD price tag by any means; and should be gotten on sale for at least 39.99 USD or less.
