I can honestly imagine Bardock not doing much for the few sagas of Dragon Ball. If we look closer into Bardocks character he takes great pride as a Sayian and respects its culture to heart even when he sometimes goes against it by helping save Granola and Monaito or by being breaking the through the class system of Sayians by being a low class but possible also at the level to be considered an elite. Bardocks may not have cared about the Sayians but he cared about the future of his race which is why he stayed behind to fight and change the future of the Sayians which I feel applies to both his Super and Z Counterparts. If he were to leave his race behind and let it be destroyed then he’d probably end up depressed and not wishing to fight anymore like Vegeta was after the Cell Saga. I can see him training off screen and maybe saving Grandpa Gohans life but he wouldn’t do much else in Dragon ball until maybe the King Piccolo Saga.
I think that Grandpa Gohan would definitely still play a big role if Bardock arrived with Goku since he would still theoretically be the first human to find the space pod
