To be fair, their debriefing did give fair reasoning for their orders. Their hesitation in the simulation got them killed and it was a confirmed Rebel target.
"Is breaking protocol part of the test?" That's actually a good question. What kind of message is this sending to the rest? That you can break protocol and kill anyone you want if you are a commander?
The Imperial Military has orders from the Emperor to crush rebellions and maintain order at any cost and by any means. However there is still a Senate (mostly ineffective but it still exists) as well as local planetary governments that like to know protocols like honoring surrenders, helping vessels in distress, treating prisoners fairly until trial, etc exist and are being carried out (even if they are ignored).
I agree, by default that means that rules are not absolute making it impossible for the military to have clear jugdment and authority over it's military force, that is a Government destroying flaw in their rules, no wonder they lost the war.
True but the Rebels and even in the Clone Wars the Jedi faked surrendering to buy themselves time that in itself is a war crime so the Empire fighting fire (war crimes) with fire (war crimes) seems fair in a rather bloody way. I mean how can the Separtists and Empire know if the Jedi and Rebels are genuinely surrendering when you have people like Obi Wan, Anakin and even Kanon and Ezra faking surrenders. There are more but lets go with just 2 examples per era this time. Also in Rebels era they disguise themselves as Stormtroopers or Imperial Officers which is also a war crime in the Rebels part. In the end the ones who used the most war crimes or used war crimes more frequently won the conflict.

The thing that gets me about the Empire is that they spend so much time and resources training top gun TIE pilots, but the vehicles they fly are extremely fragile and minimalist. Of course, the Empire's aerial doctrine is based upon overwhelming numbers and 'offensive is the best defensive', which, certainly, creates fanatical and fearless pilots. It's very much like how the Japanese in the Second World War took their approach to their aerial doctrine. Creating highly trained and hyper-aggressive pilots is not a bad thing at all, and that's quite awe-inspiring when considering the amount of work dedicated to creating the perfect combatant. But the biggest weakness with being purely aggressive and numerically superior to your enemy is the lack of safety and true defense. In simple words, it's like going into combat with two swords, but you have no shield or armor - one or two hits and you're a goner. If the TIE pilots were flying a well-designed starfighter like the TIE Defender (which had heavier hitting cannons, energy shielding, a hyperdrive, and even a tractor beam), then the ludicrous amount of time and resources training pilots is absolutely worth it. But even with a better fighting machine, one thing I noticed with TIE pilots is that they follow orders from control, not relying on their instincts as pointed out by Sabine and Wedge. This is exactly what happened to the North Vietnamese Air Force during the Vietnam War, where pilots were strictly trained and disciplined to follow orders at all times; however, when famous US triple ace, Robin Olds, came along and tricked the NV Air Force into attacking his disguised F4 Phantoms (not the more vulnerable Thunderchiefs), the Vietnamese pilots were extremely confused and disoriented - they and ground control didn't know how react!
Well, this academy was an elite one, i imagine that those pilots were trained to fly interceptors and other elite ships instead of regular tie fighters. Im sure that the regular fliying schools are way cheaper.
The TIE fighter was designed to have a very good pilot, which given the Empires vast manpower resources, was something they had the luxury of attempting to train. It's the only way to make up for the fighters drawbacks. It's the old tactic of saving money on production by relying on training-meat is cheaper than metal and far more plentiful. Investing in the pilot is cheap compared to say, adding a shielding system. Because consequently, the loss of fighter and pilot was ultimately viewed as negligible-the price of failure, which in the Empire is always harsh.
The ties are minmaxed dex builds. They are very maneuverable and require a good pilot to take advantage of that. Life support and hyperdrives are extra weight and can be worked around with suits and carriers. A good pilot doesn't need shields if their fighter is maneuverable and fast enough to not get hit and get behind the enemy.
@@melissaharway4547 Maneuverability is excellent for evasion and aggression, which are excellent traits for the perfect interceptor. But maneuverability is useless when the enemy choose not to dance with you; it's much better to run away and put distance between you than participating in exhausting spins and turns. The Empire would have more success with rebels if they showed mercy like in that simulation. When your enemy knows there is no surrender then they will fight to the bitter end like 10 men and other people will rebel too if they know there is no hope for mercy or terms. Its just common sense, fear works only at the beginning to enforce order, too much of it and fear turns to anger and anger leads to rebellion.
the point of the simulation was to show that mercy can be a trap. probably inspired by Anakin and Obi-Wan in the clone wars constantly fake surrendering...
It's quite mind boggling that we're watching a 3d animated model of a younger version of Denis Lawson, who is the uncle of Ewan Mcgregor, who as we all know played the younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
the voice actor who talking to the pilots. He sounds like the guy from battlefront 2 2005 when your doing space battle as the empire inside the star destroyer.
It might me good practicing to break protocol. Sometime breaking protocol might be necessary if you’re fighting rebels. Not it the way it was showed here, of course.
One reason the commander didn't much care for her. She was bringing her know-how from her previous stint and coming off as a rules lawyer. Trainers don't like know-it-alls. She should have held back, but....she's Sabine.
TyForestGames - you are mistaken. That's because you haven't read Michael Stackpole's X-wing novels. Wedge is a full fledged character in those books, the subsequent Wraith novels afterward.
If you look when Sabine 'died' the TIE blew up from the inside. do they have to fix them every time? no wonder why the empire show no mercy, they need money!
Tough love for cadets when they have to deal with actual burns from panels being fried from overloads. As we saw in Star Trek II, Starfleet employs the same training method.
So the sim Ghost either arrived undetected or was there undetected until it came in to protect the disabled ship. The Ties kill the Y wings, then go for damaged ship. If they broke protocol and destroyed the disabled ship the sim Ghost still would have killed them. If they broke off, would the Ghost pursue.
The Ghost is being piloted by the commander, and is mainly there to teach cadets to follow the order no matter what to finish the mission and that rebels can weaponise any ship.
Ghost ship was docked in this destroyed ship. If they do follow the orders they would destroy both of them and they would survive. Rebels use tactics like that a lot. Like they are telling that are defenseless or that they surrender and after a while they attack. Yet people still think that rebels are pure.
Still better than the Empire. They are a REBELLION. They don’t have the resources to attack the Empire head on. They have to use Hit and Run attacks. Mon Motha actually tried the diplomatic route at first to dial back the Empire Dickson moves, to no avail.
@@Gothic7876 Still rebels talk about yourself that they are pure and good while in reality they fight like terrorists. They use tactics that are war crimes. And what do Republic authority do to people that are using those tactics? They gave them medals...
For bringing down a tyrannical, genocidal regime. And claiming that they use tactics that are war crimes, well it’s a different setting so their laws of war will probably be different. And secondly the Empire will ignore its own protocol just cause. They don’t need a reason they will just do it.
The Tie ace is right, when have we ever seen the rebels show mercy to imperial ties? The answer is never, a tie pilot is dead if he gets directly hit so mercy is a ridiculous concept. a "disabled" ship is just as likely to kill you as a fully functional one.
Besides, being captured by the Empire is far worse than death, knowing the kind of tortures they like to perform on prisonners. On this part, why would they surrender?
Considering TIEs are one of the least protected fighters ever. And showing Mercy to them is ridiculous, they NEVER show any mercy. The Rebellion didn’t just spring up, they had legitimate reasons, such as in Legends when Tarkin landed his ship on a landing pad. That was full of PEACEFUL protesters. He crushed 12,000 people in one callous act.
It’s not about mercy it’s actually strategic to allow your enemy to surrender as in future it encourages such actions which means you expend less resources fighting will achieving a decisive victory as none will escape.
There was a online fan theory I heard about that Sabine Wren's father was Boba Fett. Sorry, that is wrong and it doesn't make sense. Sabine Wren was born 2 years after The Battle of Geonosis. Boba Fett was 10 years old when Jango Fett died in the Battle of Geonosis and was 12 when Sabine Wren was born.
I’m sorry, but Skerris is absolutely right! The Rebels are only alive right now due to incompetence on the Imperial’s part. The New Republic will go on to be a failed experiment and it won’t hold a candle to the might of the Imperials! Skerris’ logic even rings true during his own death, when he forgets his own words, disobeys Thrawn, and ends up losing his own shields to friendly fire as a result, making it easier for Hera to finish him off! As soldiers, these pilots must learn that killing civilians, committing genocide, and swearing allegiance to war criminals is a terrible thing, but a necessary evil when they proclaim to govern an entire galaxy!
This show kinda went in two directions with aging. Leia looks too old, not really believable for a 14 year old girl. Obi-Wan looks pretty good, isn't balding yet, and looks like a hybrid between ROTS and ANH. Luke looks way too young, like a 5-7 year old kid. Rex looks like he's aged 30 years (which is accurate, because clones age twice as fast). Ahsoka looks only a few years older than she did in TCW, but that's acceptable as Togrota age relatively slower. when compared to humans.
Those aren't simulators.......those are remote controlled fighters. The opening to this episode and the transport ship's pleas plus aside from breaking Imperial protocol and the Ghost is too coincidental for being a simulator.
So they train pairs of Tie Fighter Pilots to solo a entire squadron like if they were freaking Vader? I get why but is kinda funny considering how shitty the standard Tie is.
its shitty? you wouldn't know from the orginal movies, there its portrayed as a credible threat able to take out 'shielded' ships in 1 shot. only the falcon ever gives them trouble, but we have nothing to compare it too... shields are shown to be a waste of time, the TIE's firepower is shown to be good enough and its manuverability is good enough. its not shitty, no matter what they try and retcon it as in books.
In legend, defender pilots are selected from interceptor pilots who survived 20 combat missions. And interceptor pilots themselves were superior to regular TIE pilots. So they were already picking from the cream of the crop.

Damn the technology the empire has to create such a simulation
And yet can't even simulate the combat shields of a Y-wing :D
2:52 ironic that is how he gets himself killed later on.
the voice actor who talking to the pilots. He sounds like the guy from battlefront 2 2005 when your doing space battle as the empire inside the star destroyer.
Same voice actor.
0:42 why do I feel a sudden urge to capture a command post?
I remember when I first saw this scene, I was like, “AYOOOO??? WEDGE???”
All of the rebels just look better as emperials, sabine as a pilot, ezra as a scout, kanan as a storm trooper. Their drip is insane
A POINT FOR THE REH-BELLES?
*IN-CON-SEE-VABLE!!!*
"Right from wrong", is indeed Sabine.
0:19 every time you play Star Wars battlefront imperial side
It might me good practicing to break protocol. Sometime breaking protocol might be necessary if you’re fighting rebels. Not it the way it was showed here, of course.
All I can think of after seeing this video is "Fire on flight deck AHH"
is that wedge antilles, luke's wingman? He's like the fourth best pilot in the EU
Jules Woodbury Yeeep.
Sabine was an imperial that's why she blends in.
We have all right to watch this on
I like how in this episode the black pilot is the only one who dies, subtle media stereotype
I MISS STAR WARS REBELS😩
am I the only one who misread the title as "Sabine wedgie training"?
The guy in the thumbnail on the far right looks like lux ngl
2:14 that looks like scp 003 lol
The simulation looks cool to try flying in
Ikr
I didn't realize that was the original battlefront 2 voice.
Also her father was shown in season 4. And it isn't Boba.
@@marrqi7wini54 Exactly. The theory makes no sense and is inaccurate.
Omg is wedge nathan kress from icarly???
WAIT, how many years is this episode before a new hope
wasn't Wedge a bit older than than the way he is shown??
If Legends tell anything, Wedge would be 19 here.
Is it me or is the voice from the intercom is the same voice from Battlefront 2 (2005) (?)
Is it just me or Wedge aged way too fast in 5 years from Rebels to New Hope?
This show kinda went in two directions with aging. Leia looks too old, not really believable for a 14 year old girl. Obi-Wan looks pretty good, isn't balding yet, and looks like a hybrid between ROTS and ANH. Luke looks way too young, like a 5-7 year old kid. Rex looks like he's aged 30 years (which is accurate, because clones age twice as fast). Ahsoka looks only a few years older than she did in TCW, but that's acceptable as Togrota age relatively slower. when compared to humans.
The imperial pilot at the end reminds me very much of viper from top gun
Is it me or is the commander over comms the same voice as the captain during the space battles in Battlefront 2 classic?
I always wondered why they broke protocol by not boarding the vessel
No wonder the Empire lost... Forcing all pilots and regular infantry to address each other by the serial number all the time.
Heavy shields but still destroyed
Huh,talk about overstatement
There's a reason why modern armies use callsigns and not numbers.
The Empire really goofed up by losing Wedge
at 1:46 does she say freaking or frikken? or none of the above??
breaking not frikken
thanks
breaking protocol lol
this will not be for kids if they say language in it.
that wasn't swearing.
Wait why do they need the training pods to move and act like a 360 flight sim? They’re training to be in space
Just so I get this right, are Sabine and Wedge flying unmanned TIE fighters or is it all a simulation?
Simulation. "Just like the simulations!"
Simulation complete with sparks and fire to complete the sensation. If you are getting tired of burns and lost eyebrows, fly better.
Who remembers the PC game called Star Wars Tie Fighter?
Is being killed by plot armor machine is part of a test too?
"The enemy is losing reinforcements"
''Heavy Shields'' Get destroyed immediately...
Those aren't simulators.......those are remote controlled fighters. The opening to this episode and the transport ship's pleas plus aside from breaking Imperial protocol and the Ghost is too coincidental for being a simulator.
Sabine be looking like a simpson
rw: wow it was almost convincing ,good thing it was just a sim.
Idc what anyone says, this means the Classic Battlefront 2 Empire Announcer is a Canon character lmfao
Anyone knows the soundtrack name when skerris exists the tie simulator?
Probably my favorite episode from the season, love seeing the behind-the-scenes of the Empire.
Fire on Flight Deck R!
Tristan Wren looks like Wedge Antilles.
What episode 😊
Imagine training on TIE Defenders
In legend, defender pilots are selected from interceptor pilots who survived 20 combat missions. And interceptor pilots themselves were superior to regular TIE pilots. So they were already picking from the cream of the crop.
