- This is the Iron Giant and Hogarth! It's perfect timing since he seems to be a decently big part of Ready Player One. But I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the original animation. I used to watch this with my brother all the time. And this scene is by far the most powerful for me. I hope you guys like it! :)
I modeled the Iron Giant in Fusion 360, I posed him and split him up in there as well. Then I made all the files print ready in Simplify3D. I modeled Hogarth in ZBrush.
Fillamentum was the filament sponsor for this project. So thank you Fillamentum. Go check out their filament here:

After the parts were printed, we assembled them using a ton of glue and 2 part epoxy. And Chelsey painted Hogarth using acrylic paints.

I'm speechless... This is amazing!
The Ray Gun Project then you aren’t speechless
Garrett, not only a very impressive job creating Iron Giant, but the lighting, sound box, and the scenery, really push this project to a 12, on a scale from 1 to 10. You have set the bar really high now. Iron Giant is going to be a big hit at MRRF I can tell.
You guys create the BEST original 3D printed projects on the net, hands down.
You guys are just amazing. Glad to have met you at MRRF 2018 this year.
Met you at MRRF18 and love this and your other models! Awesome
This is totally insane. Really happy to see this come to life! Again another project WELL DONE!
The 3D printing was fantastic, but your wife has a real gift. The painting is wonderful.
Im 17 right now hitting 18 in November, i remember my eyes swelling up to this movie multiple times over.. Then losing the vhs and having my little 6 or 7 year old spirit crushed. (Yes, thats a VHS tape LOL). I found the VHS a couple years later and you better believe it was still just as impactful as the first time i had watched it.
Movie is a 10/10 must watch again, and this project of your is just as impactful as little 6 year old me watching this story time and time again. Great job man you made my day
Wow! This is amazing! Simply stunning work, sir. You guys knocked this one out of the park. Love seeing the walkthrough of the Fusion 360 modeling too Very nice work, Garrett and Chelsey! Thanks for sharing this!
This is unreal man.... just... unreal
Amazing to you brother! Modeling the Giant alone was a chore. Back to Fusion 360 for me.
Fantastic work on this diorama. I think it really worked out well that the Giant is straight filament while Hogarth is painted. It gives it the same appearance the movie did with the Giant being CG and everything else being hand drawn animation.
Just Saw this at MRRF and it is AMAZING! It was also great to meet both of you. Super Great Job!
Holy macarony! Getting that as soon as you upload the files, amazing work!
I saw the Giant before i saw this video. WOW Garrett you are the freaking man! How is this video and all the pictures not up on the @filamentum site? My goodness this is fantastic!
How in the world did I miss this displayed at MRRF 2018? AMAZING JOB!
I was so surprised to see this at MRRF. One of my total favorites at the show. During the weekend I asked various people what stood out most, their top three. Iron Giant was right up there with the Glitter printer and the angled belt printer on just about everyone's list. Congrats, it was Amazeing!!!
This took me way to long to watch this! And DANG! You guys just keep hitting it out of the park I really have no words except, great work!
Best one yet!!! I really need to learn to model off of pictures like you do. Seems like it becomes so much more intuitive once you get it down.
Although I grew up when this came out, I never saw the Iron Giant. I am going to watch it tonight now!
This was an amazing project! I love it! You guys did the movie much justice! I just got my first 3D printer a few days ago (at age 50+) and I can't wait til I start to figure things out and learn how to do all the awesome stuff I see you guys do! You are truly an inspiration! Thank you!
Amazing work! The freehand painting of Hogarth was also very impressive.
This is so F'n EPIC!!! Thank You BOTH for putting this together and sharing it! Very, VERY F'n AWESOME! I'm inspired to learn this technique you've mastered and maybe one day start me up a RUclips to attract some sponsors of my own, to pull off some incredible builds.
Holy Shit... This is so awesome...
Thanks Again!
It's a huge project! Gratz on completion. "Place surface on bed" - a must have feature for every slicer, helps a lot.
This is possibly one of the best 3d printed items i have ever seen. I really appreciate your guys' post processing as well. It seems alot of creators, do one or the other. As a fellow Nebraskan Im really proud that the hobby is represented in our state by you guys!
Amazing print and work you both did, tyvm for sharing. Sadly I have yet to see the Iron Giant but I've heard its a great film so eventually I will get around to it.
It's only a matter of time before a production or movie studio picks you to up..... Awesome job...
Garrett you surely do amazing prints I am never disappointed in the quality that you put into them. Thank you so much for sharing with us 👍.

"I'm Not crying, your crying."
Yea? so?
Insanly beatiful build compleatly blown away by this!
Hogarth: You are who you choose to be.
Iron Giant: Superman.
This is outstanding...great job!! You really did this justice.
Awesome! I could just not resist not to print this one. I'm using one Creality CR-6 SE to print, so it will take me a couple of weeks to finish all the parts. Thank you for sharing this great model.
This is absolutely amazing and I totally am not crying either
Respect guys, it looks amazing. Great to use Fillamentum, they have some great filament.

One of my fav movies of all time - you did an amazing job. I WILL be making this!
So Epic!!! You are really talented. I worked in animation for over 10 years, and some of my friends worked on Iron Giant. I'll send them the link to this video.
Thank you! And that's amazing, it would be incredible to have some of the people who worked on it to see my attempt at paying homage to the movie. So thank you very much. 😊
Wow... I love this. I cried like a little baby during that scene. And I was in my late 30s when I saw it.

I love Iron Giant. I have the Big figure that came out when the movie came out and a remote control one too. Dude that scene had me crying in the theater. My friend was like, "Are You Serious!" and at the time I think I just became 35. LOL!
Excellent work!
Superb. What a wonderful project.
oh man, first of all greetings from Guacara Estado Carabobo Venezuela 🇻🇪 I must tell you that you have brought to me a memory of my childhood, when I saw this film for the first time, I did it on open television... the phrase that the Giant remembers of Iron before hitting the nuclear missile, "You are what you decide to be" is my motto in my Facebook biography. I congratulate you enormously for all the work you did when designing the figure in 3D based on a 2D image.... really, seeing that elaboration process in a timelapse is unusual and worthy of admiration... I will try to replicate your work from here and make it as great as yours... I hope I can get at least as close to the level of perfection that there is in your figure... I hope you read this message and know that you have earned a follower and an admirer... greetings from Venezuela 🇻🇪
SUPER COOL~!!!
I really want to see a giant FullMetal Alchemist - Alphonse next time!!
GOOD IDEA!!
1:1 SIZE Alphonse !!
It may take year to do that! XD
slow clap......*getting louder* ...**louder**....*full applause** Thank you, guys!!! this was an amazing vid and creation! If you're into doing mechanical pieces with small organic forms, the scene from "E.T." where E.T. leaves earth, always gets to me.
