READ THE TITLE... :-) We are NOT farmers and are just screwing around with the old tractor trying to clear a spot for garden addition. Watch this instead ruclips.net/video/qCwQrXvu6xk/видео.html If you eat today, THANK A FARMER!!!!
If you lived a little closer I'd let you borrow our 3pt tiller...man that is nice! I love hearing about your garden and chickens..the more the better. Let your wife go for it...maybe I could learn something! Finally got our chicks on Friday. Got 16 all healthy and happy. I had to be the pasty butt doctor tonight...what a joy!
There is HUGE thing will help your plowing. You were right to start from the outside and work your way in but you were tossing the dirt in your way. The unplowed land should ALWAYS be on your left (tossing the dirt away from you). Your tractor will have it's right wheels in the last furrow that you made. There should be a leveling crank on the right lift arm. After the first outside rows are done. Crank that right arm up till your plow is level while both right wheels are in the furrow. You want that plow level as much as possible at all times. You will find the next step after plowing will be a LOT easier also. Since you won't be balling up the soil that you plowed. I did a video of me plowing with my David Bradley at the Milton Community Garden (volunteered). Just type "David Bradley Milton". That should bring it up. P.S. I love your Jubilee motor rebuild series. But I wish you would of showed the sheet metal. I understand the card issue on the start but you didn't even bother with it on the end either. P.P.S. WAY to much ad markets on them!!! Alot were over half a min, without being able to skip them.
Ed, If your wife wants her own channel, I'm subbing her. Gardening and that kinda stuff is cool. I sub a few people that do canning and such, they have gardens and its great fun to watch. I have a fishing channel and I'm thinking of starting a gardening channel... Gardening is awesome, its another place to find power equipment. Harvest time is the best time!
Your wife should do a channel. If it is as half informative as yours it would still be a successful channel. Garden is looking good. With the current price of vegtables its a good idea to expand the garden..Take care
There's something about turning dirt that I love. The old Ford did a good job; people will say you went about it wrong, but hey... it worked for you. That's what counts. I think your wife should give YT a shot... she may enjoy it
Tell her to go for the You-Tube channel, I for one would watch!!!! That's it sink that two bottom plow and make the Jubilee work a bit, Loved watching it!!!! You're Lucky.... I still haven't got my stuff that I want to put my garden in, I don't want someone else to come and do it... I want to be the one, with my Wheel Horse... I still need a plow for the sleeve hitch... and all the other goodies, but I want to get it moving which will come soon... hopefully!!!! . Merrie-Merrie
I wish I had a set of disks too. I've just got a plow for my Bolens, but I figure when I got to break ground, if I roll the soil over with the plow, then let it set a few weeks, I should be able to till it.
You are the first lol But I bet you are not the last to tell us that lol It's cool though, we're not farmers... I know it's hard to believe :-) Thanks for the comment Buddy!
Trade that tiller in for a disc. Tilling takes all the structure out of the soil. Just plow it with 1 pass and then disc it and you'll have beautiful soil with awesome structure/drainage. I also use a row builder after discing. Great videos, get your wife up and running.
the new channel sounds like a great idea ed.....i enjoy gardening shows. Might i suggest a channel name....."Ed's Garage 2-The Woman Behind The Man".... great work buddy!
What you need is a gravely with a rotary plow. Then you'd really be slick :P. But useing what you have on hand is what makes it unique. And the 53 did well !
We own a Ford 1953 Ford Golden Jubilee and let me tell you this went a lot smoother than what this video shows. No power steering,no bulldog or low range gear makes this task a complete workout
We have a 40 hp tractor. I am not exactly sure the HP requirement though. We got five different breeds of pullets: California Grey Leghorn, Auracana, Black Australorp, Silver Laced Wayandotte, and Barred Rock. Hard to tell the BA,SIL, and BR breeds apart at this stage of the game! They are all black!
Maybe your wifes channel could be (insertwifesname)'sgarden...lol. Seriously, I think she should go for it. You gonna put a scarecrow in that garden? I mean a good one, like in Jeeper's Creepers.
Who doesn't love a yummy garden? It does need more cucumbers though-good thing you''re making more room. haha Watch out Rex!! Oh yeah Kathy, your channel would rock. Check out homesteadacres...they have a great channel about that kind of thing too.
I can offer you just one piece of advice when working a small garden like that make a pass at what you think will be the center of the plot and tun and come back up on the side you just threw the furrow to. Each pass after will put you right tires in the bottom of the furrow. And when you are done you will have a smother garden to disk or till if you must....I would love for you to have a disk also.... Take care of that old Ford and your back.
It is great soil. We are sitting on sand and gravel, but the top soil is 18 inches deep and was farmed for about 150 years before we built the house. Thanks for the comment Buddy!
well I had always been taught to make a pass turning it to the out side of the field then go to the other side of the field and and go up that side I got an old organic farming book that suggested the method I mention to you. It help me cut all my plowing time 1/3 to 1/2 the time. and after discharrow through it the mound in the middle is spread out. Don't worry about the critics I do not see them doing anything... and I do check.
Thanks Buddy! We went Left, we went Right, we went Diagonal, we went in reverse... lol We were just breaking it up and showing everyone why we're not farmers for a living :-)
i need a disk too! when i first started i did the same thing you did go and jump to the otherside of the garden. and as you see it just makes a mess. Sowith your first pass, the plough should turn the dirt away from the middle of the garden and the furrow should be in the direntin you want to go, so now do a u turn or just back straight up, now your tires should be in the furrow and act as your guide. dont forget to level your plow wjen you are in the furrow.
Plowing virgin ground is a pain aint it? haha we just did a new feild this near its not to big but its nice size its about 10 acres all virgin ground, it was a pain to bring up and it took 3 times more lime then any other feild its size its pretty hard on the tractor to
I've been looking for a video just like this. I sold my old disc with the plans of buying a new one (or better still a tiller attachment) this spring, but money isn't there, and I am in a new location so the ground hasn't been gardened in a long long time. I thought about plowing and cultivating, it's nice to see it in action. I may still try to rent a tiller attachment, or maybe I'll just use the walk behind. Thanks for posting!
we have a 64 ford 650 it is basically the re-worked jubalee. it runs like shit though. when we got it it was 10 years locked up. we think there is more piston damage than originally assumed because it has a hard time driving through dirt in first gear with full throttle. it is getting the motor pulled and it will get a rebuild sometime soon :D
I agree. She may start a channel and find out just how much work it is and not want to do it. We will see. We should have plowed this in fall like you said, but... we didn't lol Thanks Shawn! I hope all is well at home Buddy.
I wish I did live closer. How many HP does your tiller require? I thought the old Jubilee wouldn't be able to use a tiller. What kind of chickens did you get?
These people commenting on here about being in the wrong gear and going to fast, well that's the first gear on a 53 Ford Jubilee they were meant to be used on open, rolling land like Ohio and Indiana. there was no power steering, diff lock or a low crawling gear.we have a '53 Ford Jubilee that still gets used on a daily basis but on smaller chores. nice tractor
When you moldboard plow you plow right to left and have the tractor's right side tires run down in the ditch you made with the plow. That what its easier on the tractor as far as plowing and also. The kid plowing wasn't being consist on how deep he was plowing throughout the garden. If you loaded those tires it would help out that tractor a lot.
Hi, I am kinda new to this RUclips. Is this something replying to the original video poster? It seems like all my responses get lost as a response to someone elses responses. btw - don't google RUclips Responses - you'll get no where. or at least no where you want to go. I love the Jubilee videos, please post more. I love to see what that tractor will do. Thanks.

I like seeing old stuff those were great tractors for their size.Tell the wife to go for it I like gardening stuff so does my wife

You have such a neat system of doing a garden. I wish I could borrow it. I have to till my garden soon.
Ed, If your wife wants her own channel, I'm subbing her. Gardening and that kinda stuff is cool. I sub a few people that do canning and such, they have gardens and its great fun to watch. A set of discs would really be nice. I'm going to keep looking for some.
I personally wouldn't watch your wife's channel if she made one, but im sure a lot of other people would enjoy it, i say go for it.
She should only do it if she has fun doing it. Thats the key. I plow the garden under in the fall to let all the grass rott over the fall and spring
Plow right to left ed lol. Right tires in previous furrow. Looks nice
Your Wife should do a video on companion flowers for garden crops!
Your wife should do a channel. If it is as half informative as yours it would still be a successful channel. Garden is looking good. With the current price of vegtables its a good idea to expand the garden..Take care

I think it would be fun for her. She's still thinking it over. As for MO... he's young, he can take it LOL Thanks Ron!
I wish I had a set of disks too. I've just got a plow for my Bolens, but I figure when I got to break ground, if I roll the soil over with the plow, then let it set a few weeks, I should be able to till it.

Thanks ED. 12 more days then she gets to come home for the weekend before starting some other treatment
Tell your wife to go for it. Damn im jealous of your dirt. That is nice stuff. We grow rocks better than weeds in my garden
I was told it's a cultivator, but the guy I bought it from was not a farmer so you may be right.

Thanks for the candor Buddy! She may just go for it.
Thanks Craig, I'll let her know. She's still not sure about making a channel.
I think she will open a channel. Thanks a lot Matt!
the new channel sounds like a great idea ed.....i enjoy gardening shows. Might i suggest a channel name....."Ed's Garage 2-The Woman Behind The Man"....

It does sound good and still works great.
Thanks Kay!
Thanks Reg! It's good old tractor.
Those damn Jubilee's never die! Work them to hell, and they still start up and work there ass off. I have 3, and i never had a more reliable tractor.
lol That would be a cool channel name!
We have tried a scarecrow in the past, but the crows were landing on it lol Thanks Buddy!
Maybe your wifes channel could be (insertwifesname)'sgarden...lol. Seriously, I think she should go for it.
You gonna put a scarecrow in that garden? I mean a good one, like in Jeeper's Creepers.

To achieve that good of plowing, I have to hook my Farmall H to my Ferguson and use the Ferguson's hydraulics and plow.
I can offer you just one piece of advice when working a small garden like that make a pass at what you think will be the center of the plot and tun and come back up on the side you just threw the furrow to. I'm rebuilding my Jubilee in a couple weeks. I'll be posting vids as I do it.

I agree, but those tillers are expensive, so I have to do with what I have. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks Buddy! We went Left, we went Right, we went Diagonal, we went in reverse... lol We were just breaking it up and showing everyone why we're not farmers for a living :-)
LOL I like the channel name idea!
Thanks for the comment Buddy! I hope she does make a channel.
It is fun to see the tractor turn that soil like butter. Thanks for watching Buddy!
i need a disk too! when i first started i did the same thing you did go and jump to the otherside of the garden. and as you see it just makes a mess. Thanks, but that would make a boring video lol Plus I love the old tractor.
I appreciate the advice. Most people just make criticize us for not knowing how to plow. Thanks again for the comment!
In my opinion i think you woul have been further ahead by just using a good troybilt roto tiller,or at least rented one
It is a pain, but it's kind of fun too. 10 acres would be a lot of work for my old tractor. Thanks for the comment!
That would be a cool video!
Thanks a lot for watching!
We've been told we're doing it wrong, but we're having fun and it works for us :-) Thanks for watching Lyne!
Thanks Merrie-Merrie! I hope you get that Wheel Horse plowing soon.
Sounds like it needs to be rebuilt. I just rebuilt mine and did a video series on it. Check the description of this video for the link to the series.
I love turning dirt too. It gets back to the basics. Thanks for watching Buddy!
I say go for it "Mrs.Edzgarden" I'd subscribe!!☺
I like this. Please show more with the Jubilee :)
I'd like to see more of what she can do.
John
LOL a mess... the garden was so nice though despite what you say... and we had fun.
Rex is always just getting out of the way of something lol
I'll tell Kathy about that channel.
Thanks Susan!
I love this old tractor. It has never given me a problem. Thanks for the comment!
Plowing virgin ground is a pain aint it? haha we just did a new feild this near its not to big but its nice size its about 10 acres all virgin ground, it was a pain to bring up and it took 3 times more lime then any other feild its size its pretty hard on the tractor to
What kind of loader is on your tractor? How did you setup your hydraulics?
Looks good Ed! I would love to plow with my Ferguson
I love that old tractor too! Thanks for the comment Buddy!

I love that tractor I always love the tractor vids and I will def. sub to a gardening channel but only if she makes more vids then I do :P j/k
I agree. She may start a channel and find out just how much work it is and not want to do it. We will see.
We should have plowed this in fall like you said, but... we didn't lol Thanks Shawn! I hope all is well at home Buddy.
Cool. Garden it up!
For 14 you ARE a quick learner lol Thanks for the comment Buddy!
Thanks for watching Buddy!

i will support the flower videos long as
as she gives my lead singer more studio time .lol
I wish I had a set of discs.
Wow, 3?? I know why, because I love mine. They are just great old tractors! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Buddy!
Had to watch it again. Beautiful tractor. Wish I had one.
Cool man, I love the gardening vids! The jubilee is awesome!
I wish I did live closer. How many HP does your tiller require? I thought the old Jubilee wouldn't be able to use a tiller.
What kind of chickens did you get?
my advice is i would never use a tiller i would use a plow just my opinion but you till it up aint worth nothin but i like thos old tractors.

Beautiful old Ford still going strong.
Thanks for watching! It all worked out despite what you say LOL!!!!
oh the people who are bashing you, all I can say its better to share knowledge if you have it then just try to make fools of people.
Thanks HB! She likes that name lol
should level the plow after the first pass, compensate for driving in the furrows
LOL As you can see from the video it all worked out in the end!! Thanks for watching!!
Very nice video!
I don't remember saying I did know how... Thanks for watching!
Hi,
I am kinda new to this RUclips. Is this something replying to the original video poster? It seems like all my responses get lost as a response to someone elses responses. btw - don't google RUclips Responses - you'll get no where. or at least no where you want to go.

Thanks.
when finished plowing you need a disk harrow next.
i really enjoy all work with an 8n Thanks
