  • “She said once that at first you use a feather, then you use a sledgehammer, and she used the sledgehammer on Joe Biden.”
    Joe Biden is privately “seething with resentment” after Nancy Pelosi pushed him off the ticket, says Dominic Lawson, columnist at The Sunday Times.

    Blah blah blah, NOBODY CARES. I get that the media survives by capturing people's attention, but literally nobody cares. Joe voluntarily withdrew from consideration, Kamala is the nominee, and that's that. Move on and focus on the future.

    • @2uksteve
      @2uksteve 23 дня назад +1

      It took a while for Joe to withdraw - & it's hard to argue with those who say it took a while *too* long. But, still & all - withdraw he did (woundingly hard as that must have been).In his *many* decades of political action he achieved a lot - & much more than most of his long-time contemporaries (much as I comprehensively condemn his handling as POTUS of huckster Netanyahoo [not a typo] ).
      Other than being the spawn of expat father Nigel........ just what has fee-grasping sprog sinecure-safe Dominic to lay claim to? Nothing more than Giles Coren's anaemic wannabe trading off the much-missed father Alan's talent status to cling to at The Times.
      All in all, this near quarter hour of snide sniping is a squirm-inducing pothole in Times Radio's [sp]output. They could so easily have done much better (as previously) than this limp smirking snigger-fest.

      Dude Kamala wasn’t elected by people, she never would have been, as an American voter, fxxx Kamala and that attitude, she has no right and she is probably gonna win because all this was either planned or they let it happen, cause they knew Biden would lose, they should have done the right thing a long time ago and removed Biden for incompetence, put Kamala in charge, and everyone would see she destroys things WAY faster than Biden, the democrats have no business in charge of our country , and literally they use evil and the media advantage to take advantage of hard working Americans who would never vote for them. It’s disgusting, and the UK is worse and by by western values, Good job guys

      He didn’t ’voluntarily’ withdraw first Pelosi used the feather on him next she used the sledgehammer and the Presidency was prised from Joe’s cold politically dead hands but I agree a lot of drivel in this video about ‘ooolh why do we love people once they’re gone,’ simple we love them because they’re gone and are no longer a problem. As a long time supporter of Joe Biden, I can tell you that Joe Biden is not grieving. Only people who do not understand his personality can make these claims. Joe Biden knew grief when his wife and daughter died, and his one son died much later. That is real grief. No one has the presidency for more than 8 yrs anyway.

      Ultimately Pelosi was just channeling many Democrat voters. I think the party has been appreciative of not only Joe Biden's thirty year service in the Senate but eight years as Vice President and now even more these past four years as President. But it was going to be hard for many to vote for someone whose delivery in 2024 was a lot stiffer and halting than in 2020, legitimately raising the question of whether he was going to become incapacitated at some point in another four year turn.

      I agree. Ronald Reagan had a much tougher first than second term. But all his accomplishments were really in that first term. Both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama spent most of their second term fighting politicians in the opposing party. I don't think that George W Bush ended up fighting the opposite party as totally stuck in the mud because of the Afghan and Iraq Wars of his making. Even if there had been no term limits and even if there had been no financial crisis, also largely of his making, he would not have been re-elected.

    Nancy Not Only Was A Successful Congressperson - She was an exceptionally sharp business person and one of the most successful stock traders. She should be a professor at an IVY league school and write a book entitled: 'My Journey Through Congress and Untold Wealth".
    Nancy Pelosi's wealth increased significantly during her time in Congress.
    When she first entered Congress in 1987, her estimated net worth was around $3.6 million. Estimates suggest that her net worth grew by about $100 million.
    Recent data shows that she made approximately $22 million in 2024 alone from investments, highlighting her EXCEPTIONAL success in stock trading.
    This growth has been a subject of public scrutiny and debate, though no evidence suggests illegal activity . (PolitiFact) (Lead Stories) (Finbold).

She knifed her best friend while looking at them in the eye. There was no backstabbing involved. It was all political business. And look where we are now! I can't help but regard with curious sympathy and amusement, the oddly skewed and profoundly disconnected analysis of panels like this one. As a child of the Midwestern United States of America, I know it isn't fair of me to expect a more careful and accurate understanding of our politics from the media personalities of my country's former colonizer turned client state, but, despite the existence of similarly afflicted pundits here, I do. Furthermore, I'll admit to bristling at the suggestion that Biden's clean-up of the Afghanistan mess he inherited was anything but a spectacular achievement of diplomacy and statecraft. Particularly when considering that after Mike Pompeo talked Trump out of making a big show of the matter at Camp David near the upcoming anniversary of 9/11, Trump sent him to the Seychelles to meet with the Taliban to negotiate the terms of US surrender and hasty exit. Biden had never supported this conflict and tried to talk President Obama into leaving during his second term. However, Biden did what he could and that turned out to be quite a bit. While Trump's administration intended to "ghost" Afghanistan as quickly as possible, leaving allies hanging in the wind, Biden managed to negotiate an extension of several months, so as to rescue as many as he could, with the complete cooperation of the Taliban forces who even helped defend the remaining bases from the attacks of other militants during the final days of the drawdown. This is just one example of the difference between President Joe Biden's skills and experience versus Trump's feckless venality. One might also consider Biden's handling of Covid 19 and the USA's subsequent economic recovery in its wake. Even as VP in Obama's administration, C19's cousins SARS and MERS never turned into pandemics in the USA, despite ravaging other parts of the world. Where Trump and fellow travelers in the right-wing fever swamp "politicized" the pandemic, his professional and serious predecessors in the Obama administration merely did their jobs and prevented catastrophe twice. More than a million Americans died in the official count, 100% more than should have. For these and many other reasons Joe Biden should be celebrated as one of our greatest Presidents. As for the upcoming election, the certainty with which media from across the pond of me regard the prospect of a Trump victory is equally bizarre and confounding, I hope none of you at "The Times" put any money to wager on that.... Bless your hearts.

    Can I just say how I love Times Radio? I mean, this is the kind of informed but informal analysis, essentially non-partisan, urbane and courteous in dealing with commentators on the left and right that we deserve, and one always feels better for having watched. The analysis of politics and of big events like the invasion of Ukraine are frequently superb and always thought-provoking. This is what the BBC should be like.
