If you have a medical condition that requires frequent checks by a specialist, or if you are retired and anticipate needing special treatment as you age, Oahu is your only option. Kauai, Maui, and the big island have small hospitals with some services, but for major illnesses or specialized care, you will only find that on Oahu.
Thanks , I'm a kidney transplant patient a little over a year I almost died and ever since I've gotten better I've had this idea to move to Hawaii the water "calls me " and needing meds is the only thing that worries me I appreciate it.
I just moved from Maui in October after 9 years for elder care reasons. It was the best experience of my life. I was living off grid up country Maui in Haiku with limited electricity in a 2 story tree house with no hot water. For me up country Maui is like no other place. We are at about 1300' elevation, trade winds 99% of the time and a night sky that takes your breath away
“How can you be stressed living in Hawaii?“ Easy. The high cost of groceries, gas, and housing. The low salaries. The high traffic. Being far away from your family/friends on the mainland. my mother is from Hilo Hawaii, In 1939 i was born in California, 8 months later we moved to Hawaii and stayed until the second world war started and we were handed a choice, stay in Hawaii till the war was over or go to California with my fathers family, we went. I moved back here in 1962, that make me a mainland born Hawaii resident.
An interesting and pretty accurate take on Hawaii. As a former resident of The Big Island, I thought the take on Hilo and Kona was pretty accurate. I loved my 7-year stay in the Hilo area and always thought of it as old Hawaii. One thing I quickly learned was you don't move to Hawaii and try to change things, rather you just try to fit in and act like a local.
I agree with you that it is pretty accurate but they forgot one thing about the Big Island, the volcanoes. I guess you can say that it is like any other natural disaster like a hurricane, that comes maybe a decade or more apart, but there aren't too many places on Hawaii island that is safe from the effects of an actively errupting volcano. Other than that, the Big Island is a wonderful place.
I loved growing up in Hawaii in the 80s and 90s, and sometimes I get nostalgic for it and think how awesome it would be to live there again. But after a few days there on vacation once a year, I'm cured of that nostalgic feeling and happy to not live there. Best to visit.
Aloha, I do believe you've been beaten up enough with the pronunciations and so I am certain you know that for anyone in Hawaii, they were hard to listen to. But let me give a little perspective from the stand point of a non native resident homeowner from Kailua Oahu. It IS very expensive, but no more so than large cities like LA, or San Francisco, . However, you will find shopping for groceries and such costs more because we are in the middle of the ocean and goods need to be shipped here. Once you adjust to the sticker shock, you forget it and go about loving the island life. There will be chores, shopping, bills and all of the regular commitments that will keep you from living life like as if on a permanent vacation. However, your free time will allow to explore and enjoy everything here to your heart's content. Staycations are the BEST here. Nothing like a weekend at a hotel that others save to come fly to and visit. Crime, meth, other drugs - better than where I moved from, but homelessness is worse. I think folks compare crime to what Hawaii used to be like and forget that crime is increasing everywhere. Native Hawaiians are incredibly kind and gracious when you show respect and become a positive part of the community, but there are a few haters just as there are anywhere in the world. My house is smaller, my dollar does not stretch as far, but I feel incredibly grateful to call Hawaii home. The Aloha spirit is a real thing, and folks are just kinder to each other. There is a saying, "Lucky we live Hawaii!" and I agree!
Yay finally! I'm so excited for another one of your videos I was watching a lot of your City videos and a lot of them you said that you needed a car to live in. Can you make the top 10 cities in the United States where you don't need a car?
I first lived in Hawaii (in a Quonset hut near Pearl Harbor on Oahu) in 1955-1956). My father was in the Navy, so we returned (to two houses, the first in Radford Terrace, the second in Foster Village) in 1959-1961. I returned to visit many times between the mid-1970s and 2017 when my wife and I purchased a condo on Molokai. Two years later we bought a house in Maunaloa. Thank you for not mentioning how fabulous life on Molokai is! And we're just a short (under 30-minute) flight to Honolulu or to Kahului, Maui. Molokai is definitely not for everyone. In fact, I doubt ten percent of the U.S. population would find life on Molokai to their liking. We're simply far too remote for that. But Molokai is THE old Hawaii. Molokai is my wife's and my favorite island. We do our major shopping at Costco, WalMart, Target, etc. on Oahu. We ship the larger items to Molokai via Young Brothers barge. Molokai is truly no ka oi! Thank you (mahalo) for a very nice video on Hawaii!
Wow that was super insightful. I'd love to visit Molokai one day and experience a more traditional Hawaii. Definitely planning on many trips to ALL the islands once we can afford to move to Oahu! Glad you enjoyed :)
@@FromHeretoThere Didn't expect to hear back from you at all, let alone so quickly. You made a fabulous video. My wife and I were married in November 2011 about a year after my late wife and Debbie's dear friend, Leah, died. Deb and I honeymooned at the Westin hotel in Ka'anapali. While there we purchased a timeshare at the Westin resort also in Ka'anapali. Two years later we purchased a second timeshare at the same resort. We returned to Maui and Oahu each year for our anniversary and for the annual ceremony honoring Pearl Harbor and U.S. entry into WWII. My wife fell in love with Hawaii. It was then quite easy for me to "encourage" her into moving to Hawaii---just as long as she didn't have to live on Oahu. We discovered Molokai in 2014 when we spent all of five nights at the Wave Crest resort on Molokai. Our next trip to Molokai led to the purchase of a condo at Ke Nani Kai (which we sold this past October). Next time you and your wife visit the Aloha State, contact us via either of my two Facebook pages: Andy McKane and Pearl Harbor McKane. We've got a guest room in our 4,000 plus square foot house. You can spend several days as our guest at no charge. (On Molokai, you will need a car. There is a Alamo car rental agency at the airport at Hoolehua, a small business in Kaunakakai that rents pre-owned cars, and at least one individual known to my wife who rents older cars for $35.00 per day. We call Molokai "the Island that time forgot." Mahalo for your rapid reply. We look forward to you and your wife coming to visit and to share some hot Molokai bread with us. (Check out the various videos about Molokai by Ted Kanemitsu. He is a fabulous photographer who was born on our beloved Molokai.) Mahalo again for your wonderful advice on our 50th State! Andy McKane, P.O. Box 166, Maunaloa, HI 96770.
Really? I can't believe somebody is actually posting about Maunaloa. That's probably one of the best places on the island because it's at a higher elevation and pretty much cool year round. I grew up there during plantation days. The family (me and my siblings) inherited my parents house off Iliahi Pace on the slope above Hotel Moloka'i. We've all moved out of Molokai but we still have relatives there. Unfortunately, I haven't been back there to visit them in awhile.
If all roads lead to Rome... Then all flights lead to Oahu (especially for islanders)... Sure life is hard and it's a struggle.. but it depends on what one wants. Some comments are about all the ill's and vices but what place in America doesn't have those problems (especially cities). Even when I was struggling, scrounging and not eating everyday, I could always surf or hike or cruise around. Many people I know started out with crap jobs and barely making it.. but many grinded it out and made connections and improved their situations. Plus Honolulu has great parks and it's free to find a spot grab a grill and enjoy life a little. And Honestly for me... it is Paradise...
Everytime I watch your videos I feel like I traveled without leaving my home. I really want to visit all those places you mentioned in your previous videos. ✈
I lived in Hawaii for four years..in Ewa (not Ewa Beach)...It was a 40 minute drive on H-1 to get to Hickam AFB each morning, but those years (1996 to 2000) were some of the best years of my life...I loved Hawaii...In 2000, three months before I was stationed to Nevada, my daughter was born in Honolulu...At Tripler Hospital...aka the big pink hospital on the hill..
As a local resident, please, PLEASE, don't move here if you are not serious about living here for a longtime, acclimating to the culture, and leaving behind mainland/foreign mindsets. In any place you go to, tourist life is different from local life and it gets worse when we have rich foreigners/mainlanders coming here and buying out land making it expensive for locals and the generations to come, difficult to live here. Also it doesn't help having military people come here and treat the island as their vacation home. In our case, our home is a finite area, you can sit your ass down if you think of treating this place like your future passive income advantage as well. Come to visit, it'll be great, but if you want to move here, that's a whole other beasts you have to learn to deal with.
Sorry to break the news to you, but what you just described as "advice", happens everywhere on planet Earth. Those that have not lived anywhere else parrot your same paragraph. Hawaii is an isolated series of islands (1 of 76,000 on the planet) in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and produces nothing but good weather, beaches, sun, and surf......as with most tropical islands. Tourism is all Hawaii has, and it's not changing, so you are going to have to deal with the transients/tourists/guests/visitors. "Culture" is everywhere, and yes, you need to embrace it, or be left out. Don't fight "Supply and Demand", as it is the most powerful force in the Universe. The demand is high on most tropical islands, but the supply is low, therefore prices are high. This isn't China....people can't buy homes or land if locals don't want to sell. To help your endeavor, I always recommend the Caribbean Islands, to people interested in Hawaii, as you get to visit foreign countries, different culture, same weather (minus the surf), water is warmer and clearer, prices are cheaper, closer to most of the people on the Mainland (vs Hawaii), and the people are much nicer.

Health care in Hawaii is sub par. There is but one major Hospital - Queens Hospital. It is in Honolulu. If you have a serious medical condition you will be flown to Oahu for admission to Queens. That is something to consider when choosing an island to retire on.
Overall, I enjoyed your video. The drone footage, and other shots were very well done. My wife was born and raised here on Oahu and hails from Waipahu. I'm a transplant from the Mainland, for these past 10 years, and I really do relish the pleasure of living here. Suggestion: You really need to do more research on properly pronouncing the names of the towns and islands used in this, and any other videos you may do about island life. Even as a former Mainlander, myself, it was in bad taste on your part and bordering on disrespectful to butcher the names of so many towns and islands.
I get the sentiment but these videos take a long time to make and I'm sure he was more worried about accuracy in what he was trying to convey along with efficiency rather than pronunciation of certain things.
I live in Hawaii it's not really paradise most beaches are polluted and houses are super expensive By the way it's pronounced Ho No lulu not Ha Na lulu
I want to see best places in Montana. That seems to be a beautiful place with similiar winter as here in Finland, and not so packed. I was searching homes for sale just for fun and saw one really cozy looking for only 95,000$ in Melrose. Nice to see another vid from you, keep it coming!
@@Willybean08 I could live with that, since northern states build their houses with double windows and good insulation unlike in texas, am I correct? Btw -32F is -35C, lol.
Bestt place to live in Hawai'i, if your not from here, is where you are now. We have enough on our hands to preserve the culture and heritage from others who have come here. Stay where you are.
I live in Kona and the culture is beautiful and the sites are amazing but it's incredibly expensive to live here and there are LOTS of issues within in community. However I have to admit drivers are very kind and most people treat each other like family. I do think that if you want to move here, you shouldn't do it just because it's beautiful.
i live in hilo but saying there isnt much going on in kona is ridic. mad pristine white sand beaches, surf, bars, other nightlight, close to captain cook, south point and green sands. all of the big island is mad underrated. but don't come, it sucks.
Depends what you consider a city. If you move to O'ahu, it’s considered the city and county of Honolulu, so technically wherever you go is in the same “city”. If you consider different towns or ahupua'a, then that’s different.
I'm from Pearl City and Mililani takes a couple of hours to get to Honolulu. I speak as a local. Locals don't want mainlanders is true. In Hawaii if you can't conform to local culture nobody wants you around. It is a foreign land to any mainlander. It's offensive that he can't pronounce names.
I would honestly not even put Hilo on this list, it doesnt even compare to these other places. BUT Volcano from the Big Island should be top 3 ! Volcano on the Big Island is no joke, my favorite place on planet Earth despite there being no grocery stores up there :D
I can tell just by the video that each island has a different feel to it. Almost as though they’re detached even though they’re all the same state. I’d love to move there someday but when & how would be a whole different thing I’m in no place to do that right now
Hi!! Please do a segment on underrated Phoenix, AZ! Californians are literally flocking here to live! A beautiful home is about 1/3rd the price of a home, vs. in California. Gas is much cheaper. November thru April, it's actually quite pleasant. People automatically assume it's hot here year round but, it's NOT!! Thanks in advance!! 🏜😃🌵🌄🕶
I'm 28, & know of several people I grew up with who moved to Phoenix. One of them recently bought a house, & I couldn't believe how nice it was, as they're not exactly banging out high six-figure earnings. Money definitely seems to go a lot farther there!
@@Tyrosine0910 Yes, it's definitely cheaper to live here, vs. Many other cities, it's slower paced, too, than a lot of other cities, & people are nicer, if you can just get through about 5 months of brutal broiler oven summer heat!! Ugh. 🔥🥵🔥

“How can you be stressed living in Hawaii?“
Easy. The high cost of groceries, gas, and housing. The low salaries. The high traffic. Being far away from your family/friends on the mainland. Difficulty being accepted as a local due to racial tensions. Friends constantly moving away because everyone is being priced out. Homeless people everywhere. Prevalent meth issues. Political corruption and a laughable police force.

If all of your family lives in Hawaii and you stay away from the ghettos, you technically just have to worry about the cost of things

He is a great role model for many people & he has inspired many people to become a RUclipsr! He is a great Man.
@@snowflower7373 yeah I know he used to be my favorite Minecraft roleplayer I used to watch his roleplays like fnaf world and portal videos and I like when he hangs out with Maui The ShapeShifter God 😁
yea
@@noahnamikaze4634 😁
This video definitely gets a like.
agree
Health care in Hawaii is sub par. There is but one major Hospital - Queens Hospital. It is in Honolulu. If you have a serious medical condition you will be flown to Oahu for admission to Queens. That is something to consider when choosing an island to retire on.
Kapiolani Hospital?
Overall, I enjoyed your video. The drone footage, and other shots were very well done. My wife was born and raised here on Oahu and hails from Waipahu. I'm a transplant from the Mainland, for these past 10 years, and I really do relish the pleasure of living here. Suggestion: You really need to do more research on properly pronouncing the names of the towns and islands used in this, and any other videos you may do about island life. Even as a former Mainlander, myself, it was in bad taste on your part and bordering on disrespectful to butcher the names of so many towns and islands.
It was painful to hear!
I get the sentiment but these videos take a long time to make and I'm sure he was more worried about accuracy in what he was trying to convey along with efficiency rather than pronunciation of certain things.
Hawaii is like the ultimate dream destination!
If you wanna be broke
Damn everyone thinks it’s like paradise every single day when it’s not
Traffic sucks, plenty homeless and druggy. Houses on oahu starts at almost one million. Food cost more. Only thing good is the weather.
I live in Hawaii it's not really paradise most beaches are polluted and houses are super expensive
By the way it's pronounced Ho No lulu not Ha Na lulu
He really butchered all the names, didn't he...
On kenoohe aka kaneohe.
Alieva 😂
Oh please Bradda! Please learn to pronounce Hawaiian words! King Kamehameha is rolling in his grave. Haleiwa! Kaneohe!
Then no come here bruddah ur not welcome! U just are jealous u can’t even afford to live in hawaii. Fyi no beach is polluted here.
Make a top 10 best states to live in for 2021.
He already did I think
@@Enosity-the-Arab no they did the worst states
I want to see best places in Montana. That seems to be a beautiful place with similiar winter as here in Finland, and not so packed. I was searching homes for sale just for fun and saw one really cozy looking for only 95,000$ in Melrose.
Nice to see another vid from you, keep it coming!
Big Sky is great and Red Lodge! Whitefish is pretty as well in Montana. ☺️
Montana is colder and dryer than Finland, but it's a great place in the summer.
@@Willybean08 How much colder? This winter we've had -32 celsius max. Few weeks have been -20, and this is central Finland.
@@kettujabamiesukkeliukko That's how cold it gets in FARENHEIGHT here.
@@Willybean08 I could live with that, since northern states build their houses with double windows and good insulation unlike in texas, am I correct?
Btw -32F is -35C, lol.
Most of the rain is between 2:00 to 5:00 a.m.
But don't tell anyone, let's keep it a secret.
This is the the definition of haloe guide... I'm below middle class and have an average job and haven't struggled a day here.
by selling meth and weed on Waikiki Beach ! LOL , just joking.
Which part of HI do you live in?
yep he definitely one haole
Bestt place to live in Hawai'i, if your not from here, is where you are now. We have enough on our hands to preserve the culture and heritage from others who have come here. Stay where you are.
Wow! Dream place to live for sure!!! I hope i will visit it one day x
Finally a new video!!
Very helpful information those person who wants to visit in Hawaii.
I have been waiting for another video thank you
Plz do Colorado. If you do Colorado make sure to include Steamboat Springs Co. Great work.
great video, love it!
Your FAST FORWARD VISUALS ARE BY FAR THE BEST OF ALL OF THE VIDEOS!!! THANK YOU & #WELLDONE 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💯💯💯
Lahaina had a fire in August and I was in Kihei and Wailea
Hawaii is a paradise born of fire. Hawaii is not a state of mind but a state of Grace.
You can create a Hawaii in any state if you are happy.
agree, I am ordering many seeds from Hawaii - to grow a lot hawaii flowers
Tiki is not a place... It's a state of mind! The Florida Beachcomber 😎
i live in hilo but saying there isnt much going on in kona is ridic. mad pristine white sand beaches, surf, bars, other nightlight, close to captain cook, south point and green sands. all of the big island is mad underrated. but don't come, it sucks.
you should do Washington state next
Kapolei and Ewa beach also to be considered because it’s very close to koolina resorts , west side of Oahu
yea more people should go to ewa beach at night its great
Good vids, would love to see you post more and do 10 best cities for ny, nc, or ma, Keep the effort! Love it
Hilo weather is not bad it’s rains daily but also sunny daily up the mountains is where it rains Hilo is not that rainy like u say
Great video!
Now I'm wondering what the worst cities in Hawaii looks like.
Depends what you consider a city. If you move to O'ahu, it’s considered the city and county of Honolulu, so technically wherever you go is in the same “city”. If you consider different towns or ahupua'a, then that’s different.
On Oahu: Waianae, Kalihi, and Palolo Valley
@@SammyxSweetheart.02 forgot Waipahu
@@SammyxSweetheart.02 I mean if you put it that way, neither is Kalihi because I run there often. Waipahu (in my opinion) is worse than Kalihi still.
@@SammyxSweetheart.02 Waianae's a hidden gem but we like it like that. Less tourists, beautiful beaches and simplicity.
Nah it only takes like 30-45 minutes from Mililani to Honolulu.
Do Oregon next
California, Oregon, or Washington next
@@TravelingCloud Oregon and Washington are turning into Cali 🤮
@@templeguard1276 yeah, because too many californians have been moving to those places
do Michigan next. Also I would move to hawaii but I’m scared of sinking into the Pacific Ocean
I would honestly not even put Hilo on this list, it doesnt even compare to these other places. BUT Volcano from the Big Island should be top 3 ! Volcano on the Big Island is no joke, my favorite place on planet Earth despite there being no grocery stores up there :D
was thinking about Hawaii and this comes up.
You should do a 10 best places to live in Canada for all 10 Provinces
Don’t forget Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. I know they technically aren’t provinces, but they are still part of Canada. :)
Kelowna British Columbia
did anyone here notice that the list has 11 cities and towns not 10
I can tell just by the video that each island has a different feel to it. Almost as though they’re detached even though they’re all the same state. I’d love to move there someday but when & how would be a whole different thing I’m in no place to do that right now
I grew up in Kaneohe and now live on the Mainland. I enjoyed your video .
Quite an achievement, butchering 75% of the place names. Great research and attention to detail...
New York 🙌
Ugh. 🔥🥵🔥
Just subscribed.
After your video I feel that I didn’t know anything about Hawaii before :). As a European, I learn a lot about the States from your videos! Thanks a lot, I’m really looking forward to the new series!✌️

Hawaii is too crowded, would much rather go to Alaska.
Not me, too cold up there.
Same, only in the summer months.
I felt the same about that awhile ago until after learning that is is 1 of the worst states when it comes to violent crime
Lol don’t go to Waikiki. Too many tourists.
Not sure what u mean, Honolulu may be crowded since it’s a literal city but everything else here is pretty chill.
very cool
Visit there soon
