    Aloha Aina. My body and face are haole but, my heart and mind are Hawai'ian. I grew up on the Island of Oahu from the age of 9, and returned to the mainland when I was 21. Some of the places I lived were Ala Moana, Kaneohe, and Kailua. I attended Royal School, Robert Lewis Stevenson Junior High, Kailua High, and Hawaii Baptist Academy. Did some sailing and snorkeling in Kailua Bay, and plenty of surfing virtually everywhere, especially Ala Moana, down to Queen's and Black Point Diamond Head. And the North Shore during Winter Break. This was all "Long Board surfing" ( Joe Quigg with a reverse skeg). My Dad was a body surfer there during WWII, under the tutelage of Duke Kahanamoku. I miss the Aloha way of Life there but, I carry it and practice it everywhere I go and live. I'm 77 years of age but still feel like 17-21. E Malama Pono! 🙏🌺🏄🌈👍😃

    My beloved father was Chinese American, born and raised in Honolulu, in the largely Chinese neighborhood of Kaimuki. He and Mom adopted my sister and me (as infants) because they couldn't have biological children of their own. Dad was the youngest of 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls, and he was born in 1928, before Hawaii became an American State. I still have his original birth certificate!! My sister and I have many family members, most of whom still live on the Hawaiian Islands, mainly in Honolulu. Dad passed away in 2013, at the age of 84, and it was his wish to have a Hawaiian outrigger canoe row his ashes out, a little beyond the breakers on Waikiki and pour his ashes into the ocean below Diamond Head. That is exactly what we did for Dad. I hope he knows that his wishes were, indeed, granted. I can't wait to see that good man again. I love you, Dad!!

    I love Hawaii and its culture. I’ve visited Oahu a few times but went to Maui for the first time this year and felt like it was an island made for tourists, though still beautiful. Resorts were everywhere and I didn’t really feel like I was in Hawaii, I compared it to being in Cape Cod. I love Oahu and its people. Visiting it has really changed my perspective and increase my respect for people in general and the world we live on. Sadly, I feel many investors and corporations are trying to take over the island that should be left to them.

    I miss Hawaii and its beautiful ALOHA people, it's been decades. My favourite place was the backyard of Dolly Partens home there. What breathtaking views and the whole island feels air-conditioned with the sweet smell of the ocean, not at all like the fishy smell of Long Island. That was where I loved to paint sitting on the lawn of her backyard facing the ocean. My gorgeous grand daughter was born there. I love and miss her and her beautiful mom. So glad I got to see her mom recently. I never knew there were so many variations of human skin colours from very white Japanese to the coal black of some Tahitians a kaleidoscope of beautiful people. If you want to see different races, and all at peace and love then you haven't been in a Kingdom Hall in Hawaii. Aloha my Brothers and Sisters.

    O'Ahu is a very special sacred place with a lot of cultural history and a bit of a stronghold on the economics of the archipelago, but I would not call it the epicenter of Hawaiian culture nor its heart and soul. Its in many ways the heart of the destruction of Hawaiian soul and culture as so many native Hawaiians have lost their physical and ancestral homes to the spread of mass tourism and the take-over of land by big resorts leading to natives who can no longer afford to live here and would rather be homeless than to leave. It was my home for most of my life, but its unlikely I could ever afford to live here again. I feel such sorrow for those who are lost and for those who come and only experience it in the primarily superficial way that they do. It is so much more and being destroyed everyday. Please learn to pronounce our names correctly. Aloha

    • @pohanahawaii

      Oahu is called "The Gathering Place" by ancient Hawaiians for a reason and the Ali'is did choose to live here instead of the other islands. The Bishop Estate is the largest private land owner in the state and one of the richest in the US with 5 Trustees each making almost a million $ a year. The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is also incredibly wel-funded to handle native Hawaiians issues. The Kamehameha School is one of the most well-endowed private schools in the US that is 100% free to those of Hawaiian blood. (It's their management, leadership, and yes, fault that native Hawaiians are being spaced out due to affordability.) Of all the Polynesian cultures proliferating throughout the world, the Hawaiian hula has become the strongest, most enriched and creative dance form as seen in the annual Merrie Monarch Festivals. Compared that to other parts of Polynesia, either left on their own, or taken over by other past empires like France, Spain, or England, you can see that their art, culture, people, and economy didn't progress nearly as well as Hawai'i with the US. Do they even have established and well-known star-navigation society like the Hokulea even though that was how ALL of Polynesia used to travel? How about Tahiti, Fiji, and New Zealand for examples. None of those have nearly the wealth of cultural troops and creative content like Hawai'i does here. Without American ideas, promotion, and ways of doing things, would Hawai'i still become this culturally, powerfully, and financially rich itsy bitsy piece of land in the vast Pacific, or would it have become just another, um, Kiribati? 😉

    Spent about a month on vacation in Oahu this past August/ September was truly an amazing experience! Though it is small island even after visiting for a month there is still things I didn't get to see or do and wish to make another trip there to do those things. Best tip I can give to someone visiting is to rent a car to explore island and is really is best way to get to see the most from this island and can be much cheaper than paying for random tours. Also I am pretty sure that diving girl is famous now for her work with some massive great whites there (if is same person, then happy for her)!

    Moving to Oahu in 6 months 🤙 to experience nature and enjoy life.
    Can't wait!
    I was born and raised in the Island of Puerto Rico, lived in New York City for nearly 30 years.
    Traveled to Hawaii many times for work, have family there and landed a great job in Oahu.
    Why moving to Hawaii.? Family, culture, it's people, vibe, music, weather and beautiful landscape.

    • @ssglopezvm
      @ssglopezvm 2 года назад

      @Falo - Puerto Rico has high crime, poor economy, corruption and a trail of natural disasters. Just last year PR had 606 murders versus 48 for Hawaii.

      @Falo - I'm a proud Puertorican... and Puerto Rico will always be in my heart.
      Moving to Hawaii is a safety and health choice.
