Its an incredible value for $40, hopefully revolver ends up cheap too cuz id love to have that super deluxe box with the new mono mix.

There is still a lot of great stuff that remains unreleased. Instead o anniversary remixes of the albums, I wish they would take a page from Dylan's Bootleg series and put out box's covering a specific periods of time and throw all the outtakes on them. They could offer pared down versions for those who aren't as obsessive.
Sure they could have everything out there for the freaks like us but I do understand why the edit these fir the masses and make them more listable.... Maybe a direct Apple/Universal sale for this of us like the Springsteen live archives....

Brilliant take on a great LP/album. Sometimes you don't always get a perfect mix/sound when trying to improve something that already sounds pretty clean and pretty damn good. Cheers.
I've owned Let It Be Naked since it came out.....decided a while back to rip it to my phone and play it in my car.......I was pleasantly surprised! I really prefer it to the original Spector edition.....
Great video Mazzy. Best walkthrough of the Get Back / Let It Be ever. I’ve listened to all the Nagra tapes . Hard going but I guess the box set misses the chance to include some of the other stuff available such as Suzy Parker
I take my different vinyl versions of the album I’ve recorded onto my computer (as MP4 audio files) and then put together my own track listing playlist to play on my iPod. The best way to go. I include Don’t Let Me Down, Ballad of J&Y, Across the Universe, some of the Naked lp and You Know My Name. Don’t have the new lp yet and will check it out
There's a 4th unofficial option: Albums That Never Were has a version of Get Back that is largely Naked with chatter added back in, but side 1 is from the rooftop concert (except for "I Me Mine"). This allows the single versions of "Get Back" and "Don't Let Me Down" to be quite different. I think "Across the Universe" is a different version from Naked as well. This is the default way I listen to it. Better takes than Glyn Johns used, none of Spector's overbearing production, and Let It Be can be treated as a separate album, since it's presented so differently.
Well it's pretty much the only way I could present my take on this release. Some like the personal backstories and others just want to see the new box. I think that's for others to do.
Your record with the mailer and poster I use to have, wish I never sold it. The New Glyn Johns vinyl is a nice hybrid of the 69/70 attempt at making a natural release with a live feeling. I came to love the Let It Be album over the last 50 years, Spector and all. I bought my 1st copy 1970 at a gas station for $2.99. I did get the original book, but after 40 years decided to give it to a younger collector to enjoy now. Thanks for sharing. Take care
Thanks for another great , insightful video, Mazzy. Got hundreds of "Get Back " boots, starting with Kum Back, which I bought in spring 1970. I still can't listen to Let it Be, due to Spector's overproduction. I don't think there will ever be a definitive version of what was intended for Get Back . With you on a reissue of the analog catalog, especially the mono lps.
Fortunately, I have a copy of the original. That's all I really need excepting the picture disc. Definitely wanted that. McCartney's Lyrics is on the way. He should sign all 3 month pre-orders. That would be nice. Thanks for the video.
Great overview Mazzy. To this day Let It Be always confuses and confounds me when it comes to the various mixes, the boots and the reissues. That said I'm pretty happy with my US orig. Pulling it to play tho!
Great, thoughtful video Mazzy, thanks. I like the mixing choices Glyn John made. What’s problematic about it in my opinion is the song choice and sequencing. By the way, it’s the 90th Anniversary of EMI/Abbey Road Studios this month. I’ll be visiting Studio 1 and 2 as they are holding events there - I can’t wait!
As always, another gorgeous recording! I'm glad that finally we are able to see the real truth about this innovative project by 1969. Honestly, I think it has been often dismissed even by the Beatles themselves and it is not so. Clearly, they were composing a lot in those sessions, they were through a very innovative inspiring period. I'm sure we will see a positive feedback once we will be able to see Peter Jackson's Get Back at last! Rgards. Joan
Mazzy, Hi. Enjoyed your take on this new release.. very helpful and appreciated the last bit about the benefit of watching the documentary vs. buying the 5 LP set. I wish to provide the following feedback, one that I gave to Michael (45 RPM Audiophile) about this pressing and feeling we may all have about "not using the analogue tapes".. Based on an interview I heard with Giles Martin, he stated that for this Let It Be he was listening to the 8 track tapes, which means he started with the analogue tapes and did an A2D. What he chose to do afterwards clearly is a choice everyone at Abbey Road seems to make which is to create something in the digital realm they believe is better than "analogue". Also getting to a 5.1 channel version which Giles seems to like(again based on the interview) requires a digital conversion which may add to their justification to go digital. I think by placing our collective voice around what is really here , which is a choice of mastering vs. the tapes being in a secret vault, may be better heard by folks at Abbey Road or for that matter labels who choose to use their services.
Good observation. I would love all analogue but at least I have all originals which obviously are that. But for new fans it would be great to cut and press new ones ✌🏽
@@mazzysmusic Mazzy, within the VC you all do these collective videos/actions for fun.. Suggestion.. why not organize as many VC contributor/content creator to create an edited stylized "PSA" where they/you say "Friends, don't let your friends buy half speed mastered digital records from Abbey Road", and at the end you say "Give me back my analog" a montage where each has a short clip talking about their experience with Abbey Road digital pressing.. sort of an online protest..that you then distribute to each content creator to play on their respective channel .. just a thought.
One of the true missing pieces of "Beatles-lore" is I don't believe the complete portfolio of photographs taken by Angus McBean of The Beatles in 1963 and 1969 have ever been made available to the public. There are obviously the photographs that they used for "Please Please Me", "Get Back" and the "Red/Blue" albums but aside from a few alternate shots that have show up here and there those particular photo sessions remain elusive. I believe there was one session done in 1963 that resulted in the "Please Please Me" album cover and then two separate sessions in 1969 for "Get Back". The first featured all four Beatles wearing dark suits and the second done around a week later featured John Lennon and George Harrison in their light suits (which I believe were their stage suits from 1966). Anyway I was hoping that these photographs would turn up as part of the "Get Back" book that recently came out, but no dice. I'm wondering if it's an issue with Angus McBean's estate or just the fact that he is no longer here and his negatives for the shoot have gone walkabout.
have you done a video on what it was like working in a record store when the Red & Blue Compilations were released? (Given your love of The Beatles) One could argue that was the last "big release" (in the US anyway) until their catalog was released on CD in 1987 Thank You, as always, for what you do here free of charge on RUclips.
There were also big Beatles releases of the Rock & Roll and Love Songs comps that had big promotions when I worked in record retails and also Hollywood Bowl.
Great review - let it be was the only Beatle album that I bought the same year it came out (I was nine years old). Sadly I went for new technology and convenience and bought the cassette - still this still stands up quite well from an audible perspective. I have of course got multiple copies of all Beatle product in multiple formats (ironically I have nine versions of Let it be - including three Japanese versions. I am really looking forward to Peter Jackson documentary and I eventually getting it in 4K format - ironically Criterion appear to have delayed 4K version of Hard Days Night until 2022 to avoid clashing with Get Back release. I even joined Disney plus to see the documentary despite not being a fan of the Mouse company.
The minute I got a proper clean Glyn Johns boot version, I never went back to the released album. I also agree - Don't Let Me Down might be one of the best Lennon songs and it not being on the Original was a mistake.
I love finally having an officially released "Get Back" LP. Some of the boots are pretty good sounding, but none come close to this one. The remix is good, maybe not as much of a game-changer as some of the others, but the 5.1 mix will knock your socks off! The surround mix is the perfect way to hear the Spector touches; they add diension to the tracks without obscuring the band. Listen at a friend's house with a good surround system if you don't have one. You won't regret it!
I got you! My car used to have 5.1 DTS and wow. Yes...I used to play the Beatles Let It Be Cassette with it. It was my favorite Beatles listening experiance!
Greetings Mazzy,✌Great video 👍 Loved the way you gave us a breakdown on the history of Get Back/Let it Be album(s) a couple of weeks ago I got my Deluxe box set and I Love the design and the presentation of this set but compared to the past Beatle box sets I find this collection underwhelming.-My only issue with this New release of the Deluxe box set (besides not having the roof top concert) is having a bit more of unreleased gems on the sessions and rehearsals CD's (And yes I know its because it was made in consideration of the running time of the LP box set, but WTF!?!? They could have added another album) -Missing is- Paul's Piano Tune (the intro to the Let it Be film), Two of Us (the fast version as performed in the movie), Across the Universe (also in the movie with Paul singing along with John), Besame Mucho, Suzy Parker, Woke Up This Morning (Wake up in the morning) Take this hammer/Black Dog medley, Lost My Little Girl, Watching Rainbows, Palace of the Birds, All Things Must Pass (the Beatles Version, Not the sub par version on this box set) Im hoping that maybe there will be a Soundtrack to the Peter Jackson film with MORE unreleased tracks from the Let it Be sessions.
Yeah there is so much more.but I think these are right for the so called masses. I would love a series of direct sale larger sets. Maybe directly from Apple and not through retail outlets like with Dylan and Springsteen.
Thanks - another great video. Love the way you add your own personal experience and history into the discussion of the releases. I too was surprised that the Giles Martin version is so close to the original production - but I like the clearer sound (maybe my original is not that good/early). And even if I'm NOT a great fan of all the violins etc. that Spector added, I understand why The Beatles turned down the Glyn John mix - it's not tha great either. But I actually love the Naked-version of Let It Be. I think McCartney did a lot of things right with this when you think of the original idea behind L.I.B./G.B.: - Omitting all the violins etc. which are totally on the moon when the idea is about getting back to being a rock-band making live performances - Including Don't Let Me Down (great Lennon tune - thanks), omitting Dig It (useless) and keeping Across The Universe (even if it was recorded much earlier - it's at great tune). - Starting with Get Back (because that was what the idea was all about) and ending with Let It Be. Keep up the good "work" :)
For me the only way I can do these is to tell my personal take on them. I appreciate everyone who unboxes and shows the records but I need to dive in a different area of the pool. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thanks Mazzy, really enjoyed that, really informative and you have a great collection of let it be vinyl, incidentally do you know what year the US stopped the gatefold version in favour of the single? Funny enough I’m picking up a copy of the US version today lol, I’m in Uk and while not rare they don’t come up that often.
Not sure about when US started the single sleeve over the gatefold. I know in the 80s when Capitol switched to the UK configuration of the catalogue it was a single but might have gone there in the late 70s. I’d have to research 🎸
Mazzy, it seems the "Glynn Johns" and "Naked" were mixed with the same goal -- keeping it real and raw. From a listening perspective, which do you find more satisfying?
Norman......the Peter Jackson documentary......can you set the scene for us how you'll be watching it.......on your own? With friends? The very minute it comes out? All 6 hours in one sitting? What drinks and nibbles you'll have ??? And of course we must have a video of your thoughts on it all. Thanks. Never stop with the videos either !!!!
Mazzy, I liked your Get Back art work. I would do something similar back then. When an LP didn't have all the info about the songs on the cover I would write it all down on the inner sleeve. Writing credit, time etc.
Nice video Norman! As always it's quite interesting to listen to the story behind each record aside from the "unboxing" thing. What do you think of the 2009 Remastered Let it Be, in comparison to the original UK pressing and the new mix by Giles Martin?
14:27 "it's a little different style-wise...." I can't seem to get a definitive judgment either way from anyone about whether that 'Get Back' 2021 cover, from the same photo session that decorated the 1973 'blue!' dbl album compilation and the 'Get Back' bootleg, has been photoshopped or not. Some speculation is that GH and RS weren't smiling enough like the other 2 were, and alternate shots from the same session did show them smiling more but then the other 2 weren't smiley enough - - so a photoshop blended the smiliest of 2 smiley photos to make the smiliest possible smileable composite to show everyone The Beatles were as palsy as Uncle Albert and Admiral Halsey. Then someone else says they just chose a different shot in its entirety from the same session, just as authentic as the former take. And some think it's the exact same shot. I don't know, and I haven't heard a single thing all day that can nail the question. Some couldn;t give a shit either way of course. But with mucho talk of historical revisionism in the mixes and books of 3 Apple deluxe album sets now and other books and some dodgy Apple soundbites, including pitching a Glyn Johns mix that isn't a Glyn Johns mix, talk of jiggery-pokery with archival photographs gives me the heebie-jeebies and would give any historian the screaming meemies, and is not the least bit huny-dory in my end of town.
I have not. I've been thinking of eventually making one on all of the Beatles box sets I own. I think that is how I would include the Japanese set. But I will wait awhile. Since I'm not just a Beatles channel, I like to space them out...
The new remix sounds ok , but one thing in particular bothers me about it On the track One After 909 , they’ve boosted Paul ’s vocals so much that it sounds like he’s the lead vocalist on the song , and John ’s voice is the backing vocal . I like Paul’s vocals a lot , but I want to hear John’s voice as lead vocal on this song . Otherwise, it’s ok .
On my Rega,Audiolab, kef speaker set up the new mix by Giles is my go to now..it sounds fantastic..I have a 1970 pressing but not the box version that sounds great..I agree also that the 12inch single sounds even better than the Giles album mix.
I do not know for sure or any details. My guess is that Disney has some sort of exclusivity first. Maybe six months or more and then I assume it will come out on video either through Universal or Disney. But I have no doubt it will come out commercially on video sometime in 2022.
Another great video on the Beatles. Did you ever have a chance to check out my book Let It Be, part of the 33 1/3 series published by Bloomsbury? It will really provide some insights from those who were there on the original album and movie, on the reissues and upcoming movie. Thanks. Cheers! Steve Matteo
The entire problem behind the idea of recording the Beatles stripped down is that, by 1969, the Beatles' recordings had utilized every studio trick in the book up to that point, even inventing many studio gimmicks and tricks that others would follow. I would argue that all the overdubs, tape-loops, feedback, sound effects, backwards playback, un-Rock instruments such as sitar, echo and reverb, blowing bubbles on Yellow Sub, ...these were AWESOME! More so, such studio wizardry was part & parcel who the Beatles were. It was stupid for the Beatles to ever even think that shedding all those bells & whistles would produce good fruit. And it didn't. The songs that ended up on the "Let it Be" album are dull, spiritless, empty, soulless songs that fall like a thud. This is the same band that, just two years prior, had recorded the brilliant Sgt. Pepper album??? Even the Beatles themselves realized this when, in the summer of '69, they regrouped and recorded the brilliant Abbey Road album using every studio trick and technique available them (including synthesizers), and produced a masterpiece. The concept of a stripped down "raw" Beatles, especially without George Martin as Producer, was always a stupid idea that even the Beatles themselves realized is completely uninspiring and uninteresting. The Beatles aren't the Band and Music from Big Pink is a thoroughly overrated record. The Beatles were always a billion times bigger and better than the Band could ever be in their wildest dreams. This 90's obsession with rootsy "authentic" music really needs to die already. Bring back the Psych era!
I totally agree with Norman that the omission of John's "Don't Let Me Down" [from the official 'Let It Be' album] is a tragic misstep. In my opinion, "Don't Let Me Down" is the easily best Beatles song from the Get Back early '69 sessions. It's just one more, out of dozens, of reasons why I rank the "Let It Be" album the lowest of all Beatles' albums.
I was pretty much done with the Beatles and crossed to the Stones. I still held up some hope , but " Let it be" exposed so much misery in them . I'm really not sure why they decided to walk us all into their type of Hospis . Nothing was that progressive and so over worked by Martin and Spector . In my opinion both ruined the Beatles . It was like the Beatles were their employees. The Stones should've shown up and pissed on the wall of the building.while they were playing 😜❗
Can't agree with you more on "Don't Let Me Down". My favorite Beatles song! Most people stare at me blankly when I tell them that.

damn good. Cheers.
I've owned Let It Be Naked since it came out.....decided a while back to rip it to my phone and play it in my car.......I was pleasantly surprised! I really prefer it to the original Spector edition.....
Love the album, love your take on it. Thanks for your sanity in this overwrought Pepperlandishness.
Thanks Mazzy I really enjoyed this video. It was great to get your perspective on this!
Thank you. Everyone has their take and I love sharing it with some historic background .
Great video Mazzy. Best walkthrough of the Get Back / Let It Be ever. I’ve listened to all the Nagra tapes . Hard going but I guess the box set misses the chance to include some of the other stuff available such as Suzy Parker
Very nice Mazzy .
Thank you Mr Bradley ✌🏽
Your review is funny and entertaining as usual. Enjoyed very much.
Thank you. I keep trying 🤠
Norman you have outdone yourself this time....BRAVO!
Well it's pretty much the only way I could present my take on this release. Some like the personal backstories and others just want to see the new box. I think that's for others to do.
@@mazzysmusic Exactly ✌️
Your record with the mailer and poster I use to have, wish I never sold it. The New Glyn Johns vinyl is a nice hybrid of the 69/70 attempt at making a natural release with a live feeling. I came to love the Let It Be album over the last 50 years, Spector and all. I bought my 1st copy 1970 at a gas station for $2.99. I did get the original book, but after 40 years decided to give it to a younger collector to enjoy now. Thanks for sharing. Take care
Thank you Robert. Nice of you to pass that book onto a newer generation !
Yeah I'd love a signed copy .
My original East Coast copy of "Get Back" came in a sleeve that read "The Beatles on Apple". I thought they all came that way.
Great video Maz!! I loved it when you compared being a Beatles completist to be being an archeologist… Good stuff
It sort makes sense...right??
@@mazzysmusic Perfect sense!
Great overview Mazzy. To this day Let It Be always confuses and confounds me when it comes to the various mixes, the boots and the reissues. That said I'm pretty happy with my US orig. Pulling it to play tho!
" As nature intended". Great marketing, great product.
Yeah each has problems. As I said, Don't Let Me Down should have been on the original release.
Great video! Thanks Mazzy
Thank you!!
Thanks Mazzy:-)
have you done a video on what it was like working in a record store when the Red & Blue Compilations were released? (Given your love of The Beatles)
One could argue that was the last "big release" (in the US anyway) until their catalog was released on CD in 1987
Thank You, as always, for what you do here free of charge on RUclips.
Getting these records as they came out almost seemed magical. I too am looking forward to a Blu-ray of the new version ✌🏽
The minute I got a proper clean Glyn Johns boot version, I never went back to the released album. I also agree - Don't Let Me Down might be one of the best Lennon songs and it not being on the Original was a mistake.
Agree agree ✌🏽
I love finally having an officially released "Get Back" LP. Some of the boots are pretty good sounding, but none come close to this one. The remix is good, maybe not as much of a game-changer as some of the others, but the 5.1 mix will knock your socks off! The surround mix is the perfect way to hear the Spector touches; they add diension to the tracks without obscuring the band. Listen at a friend's house with a good surround system if you don't have one. You won't regret it!
I used to have a great 5.1set up in SF. My main room now is not ideal for it ✌🏽
@@mazzysmusic 💡👍
Thanks - another great video. Love the way you add your own personal experience and history into the discussion of the releases.
I too was surprised that the Giles Martin version is so close to the original production - but I like the clearer sound (maybe my original is not that good/early). And even if I'm NOT a great fan of all the violins etc. that Spector added, I understand why The Beatles turned down the Glyn John mix - it's not tha great either.
But I actually love the Naked-version of Let It Be.
I think McCartney did a lot of things right with this when you think of the original idea behind L.I.B./G.B.:
- Omitting all the violins etc. which are totally on the moon when the idea is about getting back to being a rock-band making live performances
- Including Don't Let Me Down (great Lennon tune - thanks), omitting Dig It (useless) and keeping Across The Universe (even if it was recorded much earlier - it's at great tune).
I wonder why they forgot to include a remix of You Know My Name (Look up the Number) which was the B side of the Let It Be single.
Sometimes I cringe when I look at what I did to that cover, yet it was where I was at in 1970. I guess it seemed like the thing to do.
@@mazzysmusic I colored in Wheels Of Fire with green magic marker, 1968 14yo
Well said!
I really hope they rerelease Let it Be... Naked on vinyl. Bought the CD on release day, but wasn't into vinyl then.
It would have been cool to include it but alas …..
Nice video Norman! As always it's quite interesting to listen to the story behind each record aside from the "unboxing" thing.
What do you think of the 2009 Remastered Let it Be, in comparison to the original UK pressing and the new mix by Giles Martin?
Who are you? A fan/collector? Did u work with them?
My favourite song on the album is the Two of Us , maybe the whole album should have been that acoustic
An all acoustic album would have been fantastic but the original concept was difference ✌🏽
Hey Maz, how you ever made a video about the Japanese 13lp stereo box? Just scored the box at my local and was wondering your opinions about it
I have not. I've been thinking of eventually making one on all of the Beatles box sets I own. I think that is how I would include the Japanese set. But I will wait awhile. Since I'm not just a Beatles channel, I like to space them out...
@@mazzysmusic Fair enough. Quick take just for me, do you like it?
By the way, do you know if a DVD/Blu-Ray release of the Peter Jackson docu is in the pipeline? I ain't signing up to Disney
....no chance!!
I do not know for sure or any details. My guess is that Disney has some sort of exclusivity first. Maybe six months or more and then I assume it will come out on video either through Universal or Disney. But I have no doubt it will come out commercially on video sometime in 2022.
@@mazzysmusic I will wait till then.... unless a good friend has Disney 😉
🍸
Cheers back at ya!
I agree, Mazzy, Don't Let Me Down is a perfect song. And McCartney is wrong: the Spector version is beter than Let It Be Naked.
Nice one i heard these albums on Sporify and no i wont be buying i will stick to my 1970 LP which came in a box
Fair enough!
Be different, box yours in tasteless holiday wrapping paper? 😅
Does that bootleg have a Black label?
I totally agree with Norman that the omission of John's "Don't Let Me Down" [from the official 'Let It Be' album] is a tragic misstep. In my opinion, "Don't Let Me Down" is the easily best Beatles song from the Get Back early '69 sessions. It's just one more, out of dozens, of reasons why I rank the "Let It Be" album the lowest of all Beatles' albums.
The Long and Winding Road has entered the chat
Ironically, all these years later, the video for “Don’t Let Me Down” has more RUclips views than any other Beatles video.
Love the Beatles but I’m almost as tired of hearing about them as I am hearing anything about the former president. Let it Be.
