This also happened in my town. They organized a community ride and the "community" split into hurried people and those left behind. Many were disappointed. They were not trained and just wanted to enjoy socializing.
haha that happens alot! however, this ride was not a community ride, or social ride. There were stipulated speeds that shouldve been followed! Nonetheless still a good ride though!
38 km/h and still at the back of the pack? are they all ex tour de france riders or what? lol follow up: i participated in a "community cycling" event. there were 3 groups of people: the first were the road bikers. almost all of them were experienced and had attended some sort of ride-along or competition. the second group was the people on the foldable bikes. they weren't trained and some had never attended a ride-along or a group cycling. they were just there to socialize, chill out and make friends. the third group was me, the fixie group. it consisted of only me, my 2 friends and 1 other guy. We were essentially in the middle. We wanted to race and cycle really fast but we also wanted to spend time with each other. When it started, all went pretty good but slowly, everyone started to move away from each other, and by time, me and my 2 friends were literally in the middle. The front pack was like 300 metres ahead of us and the back pack was like 700 metres. There were 2 choices: we could either cycle fast to even try and catch up even though its not guaranteed, or, we could slow down to the point the back pack could catch up to us. But of course there's an issue, the back pack may not even be able to catch up before the whole things ends, and essentiallly we'd be wasting time. So we stuck to the third option, cycle by ourselves until the whole thing ended. By the time we arrived, everyone at the front pack was already starting to leave. We stayed at the finish all the way until the rear pack finally arrived. So what can we learn from this? Don't organize a 'community cycling if the pro ones just want to cycle like its tour de france or giro di italia. I was pretty dissapointed, and I essentially just wasted my time and effort whereas I could've just cycled with my 2 friends. Dissapointing.
Odd use of the word ‘scam’. In the UK, scam means financial fraud. You need to train yourself to ride faster in groups and take a turn at the front, so you’ll pull each other along in the aerodynamic flow (sitting on a faster wheel). That’s how the stronger and faster “Tail End Charlie” was pulling the faster riders with him, from your slow group to the faster forward group. Essentially, if you can’t ride faster you’ll always be scamming yourself. I never bother with these groups, I ride for my own health, fun and enjoyment on my Brompton H6R: 36.36 miles, 3h 19m, 9.5mph average, with multiple 17% hills.
Nothing wrong with being slow! Don't get me wrong hahah I'm fine with that! However I do believe, staying in your line and not swerving around is kind of basic and it should not be a case with these "trained persons"
Your observation is definitely correct. This group is formed mainly by COVID cyclists. The "strong ones" there have no real experience in fast group riding, they are just hammering on the pedals for a few km and feeling good about themselves.
It's very dangerous to ride on the low bicycle.. Road users can't see because of the low position.. Live only once.. Must take care of ownselves.. Can't gamble life on the road... Take great precautions...

U r not in a official race, the faster u ride, the heavier ur fall. Think wisely, SG drivers arnt friendly.
ride needs to be split in to A, B, and C pace. A for the fast people, B for the casuals, and C for the "conversation" riders.
Bpr is generally slow for trained persons. Most people are just hiding and relying on a few stronger guys
