The movie never mentioned it. But as with all deep lore that was omitted from the movies he was a clone of palpatine given all the memories of the original.
They threw out all legends lore so they could start releasing important plot details in fortnite.

If they were gonna kill him off they could do so in a way that preserves his dignity and the importance of his arc
I’m just giving an example but they could have had that tension between Kylo ren and hux occurred between Ren and Phasma
Phasma could then attempt an assassination attempt while Han and Ben are having their scene.
Han could barricade Ben then fend off Phasma and her troops disarming her only to then reveal that Han took a fatal hit
This would have given Han a death that maintains the growth he went through during the OT while at the same time catering to Ben’s inner conflict between light and dark
In TLJ when we first revisit Ben he’s already hesitant to kill Leia, after Snoke deems Hans murder pointless, no less. This confirms that not only did Disney and Abrams put no thought in this story from the start but that Han was totally wasted as a character
I never actually thought about how damn angry Rey is in the movies. And it is literally never addressed. Shes supposed to be a jedi, someone with extreme control over their emotions, lest they get the better of them, and yet she just stabs Kylo in a fit of rage, and from what i remember, though i may be wrong, Kylo had stopped fighting at that point.
And it's made very clear in episode 8 (during the Throne room fight) that Kylo is the calm and concentrated one, and Rey is the angry one who swings her lightsaber to burn and kill. This contrast is even more enormous when ou remember Kylo as the angry kid who crashes computer with his lightsaber everytime he's mad at something.
Also she's very happy (or at least doesn't give a shit) every time she kills someone. But she's still "aLL oF ThE JeDis"...
It’s funny that we complain in the prequels that they show no emotion yet in the sequels they show a lot of emotion

Point one
Because of his guilt.
Luke never left the ruins of the academy he built to train future Jedi.
Point two
Kylo Ren/Ben Solo was trained at that academy.

Disney threw tons of money on the production value and the quality of the sets do show through.
All the movies in the sequel trilogy look great.
But it's silly and annoying when people like myself sit down and actually think about the plot.

Or it could be argued that he still wasn't fully into the dark side.
That still doesn't change the fact that the entire time through out TWO movies. Kylo wasn't scripted to show the audience his thought process on why the planet he was trained on THAT HE DEFINITELY KNEW HOW TO GET TO.
Wasn't one of the targets in the force awakens.
Or why he didn't go back with the Knights of Ren to finish the job.

At least the Martez sisters were two differing personalities. One quieter, one boastful. Other than him being an Asian Male lead, there's nothing really that would have made the overall role that Nyx/Martez Sisters fills any better in those episodes.

Exactly! Luke Skywalker, as in the REAL Luke Skywalker, told us all what is so f***ing wrong with Rey & her "story" with one wise little sentence. That line, intentional or not (I think it IS!), is a middle finger to KK, JJ & especially Ruin Johnson who clearly hates everyone that wanna attend schools, studies, hear what any teacher might have to say & get an education.

This would have saved me approximately 7 hours of theatre time, nevermind all the time spent expanding my knowledge of how this trilogy was garbage.
Yup, pretty much sums it all up. I never cared for the kind of people who were like "this isn't my canon" when it comes to this stuff, but I've finally become one of you. This movie sealed the deal. I now ignore these movies as much as cognitively possible, and given their announced and thus far released slate of projects post-Episode 9, it seems like Lucasfilm does too which is really telling...
The Master Vandare dialogue from KOTOR over Rey being a psycho really sold it for me. Good job.

Lol, I was born in '81 so I grew up with the original trilogy. People only a few years older than me who saw Return of the Jedi in theaters HATE that movie and think it ruined the original two Star Wars movies.
I saw episode 1 in theaters and thought it ruined the original Star Wars trilogy.
Now I work with people in their early 20s who grew up with what they consider "the original 6 movies" and love them all. They watched episodes 7, 8, and 9 and think they ruined the original series.
Years from now you will all be old and cranky like me and be dumbfounded by kids who grew up with the "original 9 episodes" and think episode is the movie that ruined the series.
I love how nobody bitches about the glaring continuity errors of the original trilogy.
We are all "kids these days" at some point, and we all eventually become clinical old pricks eventually.
It pains me how the franchise i grew up watching was completely disregarded. I had some PTSD after watching the last of these. Clips likes this help to with it 😅

I mean, some of these are good growth. Luke acknowledging the weapon he previously disrespected should be respected, for example. And, "The Last Jedi" outright not representing what Jedi should be at all I also think is a positive growth because the Jedi were fucking terrible as people and an organization. That was definitely where the story was going and should have gone.
I don't know why I'm defending this dumpster fire at all, though. I just hate seeing stupid claims. Even when they are for the right reasons.
I could never articulate how I felt about the whole thing….. luckily now I have this video to share!
Now we just need these movies to be retconned from the Lucas canon.

@@nathanjonsson6467 Yeah the prequels can't and shouldn't be retconned, because those films actually built toward the official transformation of Anakin into Darth Vader. And those were made by the original creator, who had an actual vision of his story and art from start to finish.
Removing those from canon would make the impact of him destroying the Emperor would make it a lot less meaningful.
Basically, you would be fighting a losing battle with all the fans who grew up with the prequels, and those who grew up with the originals, but also love the prequels.
I consider the ST non-canon like it happened in a different universe and not in the sacred timeline..
More entertaining than the entirety of the Sequel Trilogy, well done.

I do like the concept of Rey becoming "All of Jedi", but she shows no fkin signs that she is since the beginning to the end of the series, and it's executed at the worst possible way that I think if u give a normal 18 yo who has watched enough generic movies a chance to write the script, he would actually do better than the current director, and not just writes "somehow palpatine returns".

I came out of the theater balling my eyes out with how bad the rise of skywalker was. I didn’t think anything could be worse than the last Jedi, but somehow it managed to do it 😂
what killed me was that Rey is behaving like a spoiled (bad) sith continiously but is somehow the penultimate jedi....
And for me the ending of the third sequel movie clearly says that the Jedi are wiped out and the Sith did win, cause Palptine took over reys body via essence transfer just as he said he would. Darth Banes plan finally worked out and i wish they ahd the balls to make that canon and build another movie based on that
Honestly I'd be down for that. Cause in the end, yeah Darth Bane's plan is working and as well as this the first order is just as powerful as when the movie started, so you got all the tools and plot points to make another movie (and you know, maybe don't rush it so it's total dogshit like TROS)
Imagine a story where the Sith, led by a now-evil Rey, were in power with no Jedi to counteract them.
That changes when someone, perhaps by chance, discovers ancient Jedi texts that were supposed to be destroyed by the Sith during their uncontested takeover. He takes an ironic interest in it, seeing as it completely disagrees with the worldview he's been told to have (always prioritize yourself over others, act through emotion and backstab when you have an opportunity). Eventually, he gradually warms up to the teachings of the Jedi.
Through rigorous study and exploration, he trains to become the first Jedi in 30 years and rebuild its order in spite of the fact that he would surely be executed. He learns to keep a cool head and focus on helping others when the opportunity arises. These actions, although distrusted and despised by the greater community, are not immediately found as a result of Jedi mastery, and are handwaved by people as signs of a weak person who will die soon enough. Later on, however, Empress Rey recognizes this as the Jedi code and seeks to exterminate the threat to her rule that he poses. Over the course of the story, he begins to find and recruit the few people that agree with the Jedi ideology and are willing to train, then he and his group stage a heroic revolution against the Empire.
In the next few movies, probably the finale, he defeats Rey (but doesn't kill her- he instead hopes that she can be redeemed) and takes her place as ruler of the Empire, seeking to increase freedoms and encourage peace and the Jedi way. However, he's forced to constantly defend himself and his rule against a community that has been socially engineered to despise him and all that he stands for.

The Sequels are giving the whole of Star Wars a bad reputation - look if you like the Sequels and call yourself a star wars fan - you're not a fan. A true fan wouldn't like the sequel movies.

This is the greatest video I've ever seen. This says everything that's bad about 3 movies, in less than 5 minutes... I love you.
You know, I didn't like her character before, but this video made me realize Rey actually _is_ pretty much the exact opposite of what any Jedi would strive to be. She's not calm, she's not collected, she reacts with extreme anger whenever prompted and lashes out in vengeance, and while that alone wouldn't necessarily disqualify her as a Jedi, since Luke also gave in to anger at times, it's the fact that she doesn't ever seem to learn better. By the end of the final film, she's still striking out in anger and vengeance, violently attacking Kylo, killing Palpatine, yelling, screaming, lashing out. She never learned to balance herself. Even Luke learned patience and balance by ROTJ, and though he still struck out in anger, he controlled himself enough to realize where it was leading and not succumb to the Dark Side, as Palpatine planned.
This also reinforces my opinion that this sequel trilogy, specifically this movie, took a gigantic shit on the OT. The way that Luke defeated the Emperor in the OT was symbolic and enormous. He didn't defeat Vader or the Emperor in a dramatic, over-the-top fight (which is what this movie does, by the way) like everyone expected. He does best Vader, but willingly chooses to spare him over the hope, however small, that his father is still in that monster somewhere, and he was _right._ Even when everyone, his mentors, his sister, _even his own father_ told him Anakin was gone for good, he appealed to that light in him, and it succeeded. Anakin chose his son over his power, and threw his master into the core of the terror machine he created to save him.
But no, now it turns out he was actually alive the whole time, the Chosen One prophecy does not matter anymore at all because it was undone in like 20 years (I get these things fluctuate, but seriously, if even a half-century didn't pass before things got fucked up again, I don't see how the prophecy was all that important), and now instead of the ultimate evil being triumphed by the power of a love a father had for his son, the ultimate light overcoming darkness through peace, we now have the exact opposite- Palpatine being defeated in an over-the-top fight that violently kills him, as opposed to him being brought down by the very monster he created by that monster's love for his family, symbolically meaning nothing.

She is a good actress though. Shes just incredibly bland in the sequel trilogy.
