      done ... and to me this is the best way to defend the the tripod ankle lock, the hook gives you an extra moment when you can lift the hip and escape. thanks for sharing this man!

    Have you encountered belly down ankle locks from butterfly ashi? Where the butterfly hooking leg rotates up through the middle and becomes the pinning leg as the person turns belly down? Sorry, difficult to describe. Would the idea still be to wedge your free leg underneath some how preventing them from planting into the ground?

      Oh yeah definitely. Don't allow them to turn your knee, and when they try to lift hip their to move around your leg we can work our leg inside. Their butterfly hooking leg may be able to be accessed as a lever with your leg to open up the control a bit if necessary, and depending on how tight their control is.
