    AT4050 St was my favorite but the sm57 added a little smack to the sound. I loved the whole thing.

      The 4050ST is a fantastic mic. I have no idea why I don't use it more???? I picked these 3 mics mainly just to show how different my mics could react in that position. The 57 isn't usually a first choice for me for that job. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial. I will try it with IR and SDD5 as I'm not a drummer and I will pass it along to my brother whose son is a (young and talented) drummer. Cheers from Canada.

    ✨✨👏👏 really nice, even more than decent quality kit/cymbals and mics taked further. Everything working together. 🎶🎶

    Awesome! As expected, the AT4050 was the brightest of the bunch, and therefore not my cup of coffee, because it added too much cymbal noise. The Mini K87 sounded the best, giving a sense of overall depth to the sound of the shells without adding any cymbal noise. :)

      The MK87 is a great mic! Smooth top end with enough detail but it's not too bright or brittle. Thanks for watching!

    Is there anyplace we can hear a finished project you've recorded? Been watching you for about 2 years and never hear finished songs. Love your channel, though. Being a drummer myself, your focus on recording drums has been very helpful.

    what are the mic on the drum kit ?

    57 sounded terrible in that position but other two sounded great! Awesome idea here, I'd most certainly go with a flat or even dark condenser mic

    • @boobo3763
      @boobo3763 Год назад +2

      Yeah, but it's all about how it would sound in the mix, right?? I could see it adding some real SMACK...

    • @Ultimatestudiosinc
      @Ultimatestudiosinc  Год назад +3

      I do not necessarily disagree about the 57. I picked these 3 mics mainly just to show how different my mics could react in that position. The 57 isn't usually a first choice for me for that job. Having said that it's more about context and what it might add in a song. The darker condenser is a good idea too as it will help add depth and mitigate some of the harshness of cymbals.
      We also tested putting a small (12"x12") gobo behind the mics and that made a noticeable difference too. I just didn't want a 60 min video! Lol.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @Ultimatestudiosinc
      @Ultimatestudiosinc  Год назад +3

      I agree. Context is everything!! I like Kevin's suggestion about a darker condenser too though. It would add even more depth and give a different vibe.

      @@Ultimatestudiosinc i was thinking that exact same thing!! -Putting something around the mic to isolate it a bit...

    • @boobo3763
      @boobo3763 Год назад

      @@Ultimatestudiosinc Room mics have been VERY, very hit or miss for me -Especially dark ones. They mostly don't end up making it in the mix because I dislike how they dilute the snare sound... BUT -with this one being equidistant from the snare as the overheads well, that changes things up CONSIDERABLY! If you baffled off that mic somehow, would that change the time that the snare sound takes to get to it?? -Probably not enough to notice...
