    The way they've reproduced the pages and colours as they originally were is beautiful. Would love, love, love if this was the standard for collected editions, instead of recolouring it all

      It is a superb book but I truly wish they would bring it out in the oversize format but perhaps further down the road, bring it out in a comic sized format as well. One, it would be a little cheaper, assume more £30 or so instead of £150 but it would be a little easier to handle. The big size is great but it takes up a lot of shelving space. Really glad they went for the original comics / pages etc and not glossy and recoloured as well.

      Noticed they even have a £500 slipcase release. I love Taschen books but they are so expensive. I know it is probably a very limited market and art books (such as from Taschen) often run up to well over £100+ but I hope it comes down in price a little. The Avengers one is currently £100 which is a little more affordable. I always wonder if they will bring out more volumes especially as it is listed as volume 1.

    Great review. Gonna jump on the silver surfer at some point. How far will Taschen take these? Would be interested in Spider-Man but curious how far they will go with some of them. Surfer is fine as all the run fits in one book but the other stuff would require some books to cover their run and at what point would they stop.

      Well there is the Spider-Man 2 volume running to the end of Ditko, if they do continue, I hope it is a complete run through to issue 100 or so, so approx 5 volumes. That would be an impressive set of volumes though adding up to 750 quid for the entire 100 run

    I didn’t realize this was out already! I just got mine ordered. Thanks for the great review. I’m sorry to hear that your copy of the Amazing Spider-Man didn’t arrive in the decorative box. That’s a shame. Good to see someone who is passionate about these classics! I just subscribed to you and can’t wait to see more of your videos! Take care!

      Got a few more planned, just have to get around to reading even more. It was disappointing about the Spidey one, it is an excellent book all the same

    For much Masters degree in literature I'm writing my dissertation on early Marvel comics, so I was sold on all the extra information (histories, biographies, etc.) that is all quotable. But what really sold me over the Folio Society collections is the paper stock choices - I'm a big fan of matte over gloss - not to mention how the colours are true to the original.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  2 года назад +1

      They are from Taschen, the Folio Society books are always amazing though but they are so expensive. I must admit, the matte is so much better than the gloss though !

    I haven't succumbed to any yet, but those oversized Taschen books really do look lovely. Like you Andrew I've a number of the early issues, and have Avengers in Masterworks collected up to a point

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  2 года назад

      They are lovely books, perhaps a bit excessive when I have the omni (for Spidey) as well as some of the originals (Avengers). I wonder if I will succumb to the FF one, again, one that I don't have the omni for

    Looks very pretty but I think DC's absolutes/tabloid editions are big enough as it is, that looks like twice the size of one of those. You've definitely got something to knock out home invaders with now though.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  2 года назад

      Or they may use it to knock me out ... I think they have stretched the format to the limits, the pages are fairly close to the original art size.

    Thanks for sharing a great vid, a mighty fine looking book although the Spidey one looks to have the edge for me although with the price points I have decided not to pull the trigger on either one although I COMPLETELY understand why some people have, they look to be well put together as you would expect from Taschen , I think the only ones that could tempt me would be the X - men and later volumes of the FF the ones that will contain say 40 thru 80 , although thinking about I would still be iffy about the asking price, I would I think be more comfortable if like you say they had all the adverts etc and not just house ads and inside cover ads. but without doubt a great book and as I said thanks for sharing it.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  2 года назад +1

      I was surprised by the lack of the ads, hadn't noticed this in the earlier volume but in this, as I have 7 of the comics, it was pretty clear what was missing. Especially as they wasted a few pages with pointless oversized designs, they could have used those to add the full comic, probably only another 30 or 40 pages at most. I guess it is going to be a hard sell at that price but then again, noticed that the latest Dave McKean Gormenghast trilogy is a mere 745 pounds and I am certain many will buy it at that price as well. And I now regret not buying The Outsider (Arkham) by HP Lovecraft at £400. Prices have just gone crazy of late. Still would love to see a Marvel Checklist or Adverts book, that would be a winner with me

    • @captain_uk
      @captain_uk 2 года назад +1

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Yeah I think the nearest they have ever got to a Marvel Checklist book is the one they compiled a few years ago that contained all of Stan's soapboxes. I too would love to see a checklist / advert book.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  2 года назад +1

      Yes, should have bought that at the time, oh well, probably got most of them in the comics if I ever went through them all month by month (I did try to collect across the months) and perhaps now with the omnis / taschen books, probably have most of the Soapboxes of the 60s and 70s

    Your Spider-man didn’t come in a box like that???? Mine did!

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  2 года назад

      Mine didn't for some reason, didn't realise there was a box so I would have complained and got a new copy (especially as it has glue issues as well). This volume seems a lot better than the Spider-Man one though I am a fan of both sets of stories.

      Yes, a lot of great material to check out, from the 40s all the way up until 2022. Really like this format, really glad I got it. The bigger issue is the space, does take up yet more of the shelves (and weighs a ton)
