    Love this guy. He comes up on my utube rotation always teaching and preaching and in great long form interviews about all sorts of terrific discussions even between himself a believer and atheists being respectful and decent. I learn so much from him and his great guests from archeologists to scientists to philosophers and so on. His father's books are great and this guy's work has helped me so much in my struggle to repent and come back to the Lord. In my my mind this guy has a great heart for people which I admire so much in my learning to love others again. The anger is so much less now, thank God for Jesus and His incredible mercy and patience. Thank God also for people like Sean McDowell who is so generous with his knowledge and friends.

    Facts? More like wild baseless assumptions.
    1 There are many conflicting takes on an actual historical Jesus. So we can't just take it as a fact.
    2 This claimed Jesus guy was 'shamed' by his enemies not his allies. By having your enemy go so far out of their way to 'shamed' you, means you are doing something right.
    3 The tomb (which no one can agree on where it even is) being found by men would of made the story less believable. Because it was the woman's job to clean tombs. Why would men be there? They would have to invent a reason for them to be there.
    4 This idea that a woman's testimony was worthless is false. Josephus talked about women testifying.
    5 they most likely invented the tomb as the overwhelming majority of crucifixion victims were thrown into a mass-unmarked-grave. Having him in an actual tomb would allow them to say the tomb was empty.
    5 You only have Paul and even that was not a physical Jesus. The 500 is hearsay from years after the supposed event.
    6 There is no evidence that any of these disciples died for thirty beliefs.
    You presented absolutely no evidence for a man rising from his grave.

    1&2. Pretty mundane, Jesus lived and he died.
    3. First off we have no good reason to posit a tomb of any sort. Secondly, this argument about women discovering the body is entirely stupid. Women did this work so why would this be done by anyone else? Also the testimony relates to a court setting, not social ones. The people talking about a stolen body would probably be in response to these claims being made about a stolen body. Have you ever granted a point for the sake of argument to show how something doesn’t work even if you give it a stronger case?
    4. Out of all supposed post death experiences we have good evidence for one, Paul. This is because he himself describes what he experienced and thus likely had some sort of experience. Additionally it’s reasonable to posit that maybe a couple disciples/those close to Jesus also had an experience although we have no reliable documentation of this. Regardless all appearance claims, except for Paul, are entirely hearsay.
    5. Willingness to die. For the sake of argument let’s just grant this. So what? People who believe in a false thing act the same way they would if said thing was true so why would we expect them to act differently?

    You don't need to have a doctorate in theology or to be a scholar to know God's plan and Jesus promises to those who put their trust in him.The apostle Paul clearly stated that if Jesus did not rose from the dead then there is no resurrection and therefore we (Christians who put their faith in Christ) are to be pitted!.I rather believe Paul and the rest of the apostles who claimed to be eyewitnesses of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ resurrection and ascension to heaven.If Jesus did not literally resurrected from the dead then the apostles were liars and deceivers, I don't think so!.
    The Gospel is based on this promise:to those who repent from their sins and put their faith in Jesus Christ, Jesus promised these 3 things: 1-their sins will be forgiven 2-They will be resurrected from the dead in a new incorruptible body and 3-will have eternal life in Gods kingdom!. Let God and Jesus Our Lord be truthful and faithful and let man be called a liar and deceitful.I for one choose to trust and believe the all Mighty all knowing God and his Holly Son Jesus Christ

      @Humean Lots In court, if we had multiple witnesses in a family corraborating testimonies that a person committed a crime, they wouldnt count the family as one unsubstantianted claim, they would weigh the claims of each family member individually, and if they corrobarate the claim that a person committed a crime, they wouldnt dismiss it saying we had to because there wasnt corrobarating evidence from a person outside of the family. No thats still a strong case.
      Just regarding the empty tomb, we have five different sources making 5 claims that corrobarate with one another , but you call that one claim instead of mutiple, and when you throw the mormons in their , the mormon books have one source, one claim, book of mormon, yet you call them claims, of course this is unsubstantiated.
      You keep avoiding the answer, and answer strawmans. I DIDNT ask if one person makes a claim , why do you need external corrobaration.
      Im asking , like with the empty tomb, if a claim is corrobarated by 5 sources, why is it not considered substantiated unless there are " out crowd" claims to corrobate them.?

      @fredarroyo7429 3 года назад

      @Humean Lots You are pretty much saying if we had multiple witnesses of a family corraborating testimonies that a person committed a crime, your saying we shouldnt count the weight of the individual independent multiple witnesses in a family as a substantiatial because there isnt a guy from outside of the " cult family" corrobarating the claim.
      If you said that as a judge or lawyer , youd be disbarred.
      The gospels were written immediately after the rrsurrection not after. They would of been rejected immediately if they had been embellished like you claim they were. The gospels are greco roman historical biographies they dont need to be in the format of a first hand witness for them to be sunstantial. They had access to records and the people who were there as well as themselves. Your hearsay objection doesmt make any sense

    • @fredarroyo7429
      @fredarroyo7429 3 года назад

      @Humean Lots Yes absolutely. If there are multiple reliable witnesses and they all happen to be in one family. So many people have been thrown into jail on the weight of the testimony of 2 witnesses. Youd be disbarred for sure.
      You keep strawmaning saying a claim is not evidence for itself. No one is disagreeing with that. We are saying multiple testimonies put together are substantial evidence for that claim being true.

    I wish Sean could stand outside of his religious bubble.
    "Jesus died on the cross"--is Jesus the only person to be crucified? What makes his crucifixion special? Appealing to the Bible is circular reasoning. Christian and non-christian writers alike were repeating what Christians BELIEVED. Christians suppressed, destroyed, and failed to preserve writings that didn't align with their theology. Many Jews that were contemporary with Jesus did not believe he was the Messiah despite his miraculous deeds and claims of divinity. Jesus did not meet the criteria for a Messiah or a perfect sin sacrifice according to the OT.
    "The tomb was empty"--which tomb is the real one---the Talpiot Family Tomb, the Garden Tomb, or Church of the Holy Sepulchre? Apparently Mary Magdalene knew where the tomb of Jesus was as she went there on Easter morning...why wasn't it venerated? Why would Mary go to a sealed tomb to anoint a body that would make her impure?
    "Jesus appeared to people"--Elvis appeared to people after his death. The Virgin Mary appeared to people. Dead loved ones appear to people to this day. Does Sean believe these appearances? He also has no evidence to substantiate that all the disciples were willing to suffer and die for their beliefs (see Paulogia rebuttal) but even if I grant that they did, that doesn't make their beliefs true.

    • @bliots8369
      @bliots8369 2 года назад

      This is just not true... Jesus' crucifixion was special because he did nothing wrong, he was the perfect Lamb of God. Jews didn't believe he was the Messiah because they were blind and did not want to accept change, even though they saw His miracles. How did Jesus not meet the 'criteria' for a Messiah or a perfect sin sacrifice according to the OT? There's literally a whole book about it... As for the tomb, we don't know which tomb was the real one because it was never recorded in Scripture. It wasn't 'venerated' because they didn't care about the stupid tomb cause someone has just risen from the dead! Why would they stop and, instead of going to tell others as they did, build a monument to the tomb he was buried in?? Mary went to anoint the body because she didn't care if it made her impure or not. She's the one who washed Jesus' feet with her hair. All she cared about was serving the Messiah, and when he died, she just wanted to pay her respects and mourn. Jesus appeared to five hundred people at once after his resurrection, and those that saw were willing to die for what they believed. Were the people who hallucinated seeing Elvis or Mary or ghosts willing to die for what they saw? There is obvious evidence for the apostles martyrdom everywhere and I don't think many people disagree with that.

      The blessed virgin Mary has been well attested to showing up to groups...do you believe those mass hallucinations? If not, why do you believe 500 people saw Jesus? Did they die for what they saw?

      Jesus definitely existed. No question about that. The real question is whether He is the Son of God or not? You can prove that through the resurrection, which is what Christianity is built on. If you can prove the resurrection, you can prove that He is the Son of God, and prove that Christianity is true, also proving that Islam and Judaism is false. That’s ridiculous. J. Wallace has great proof for Jesus, he’s answered many questions on his site. All you need to do to prove Christianity is to prove the resurrection. That’s literally all you need to do. We know that Jesus definitely existed and was definitely crucified, and the Gospels can be used to prove the resurrection. \/ The sad truth is no amount of evidence would convince you. I'm so sure of this next bit, that you have a presuppositional bias against extra natural occurrences that reasons in a circle. You've already come to the conclusion that it is impossible before you even started to examine if it is possible. This is what it means to hold a presuppositional bias. You will NEVER, under any circumstances, no matter how much evidence is given, as long as you hold to your presuppositional bias, be able to examine things fairly and break free from your circular reasoning to know if something is true or not. All the evidences put together is overwhelming when examined closely and fairly. When it is you will not be able to deny that his resurrection is the most reasonable conclusion given among all the possibilities. All other are left wanting, and littered with problems with their explanations. I know what that means. But it's the only one that makes sense of the evidence regardless of how anyone, including me feels about extra natural occurrences being possible. You think about that...
