Evelyn Hernandez Once the semester starts I'm going to be doing daily vlogs on the life of an Electrical Engineering major. I'll be a junior so some videos will have study techniques and other tips. Hopefully the videos will also allow people to see what it's like and how fun it is :)
I just graduated with my degree in civil engineering and I start my career next week! I've been hoping for such a long time that people would make videos like this helping others get into engineering so thanks for doing this.
Hi! I am working for an engineering consultant designing highways, site plans, and traffic systems. On a day to day basis, I draft plans in cad, go on site visits, collect data, and check calculations. I hope that answers your question!
I'm graduating next year and my major is civil engineering but now I really hate it. I don't know why now coz I really used to love it Can you please tell how work is?? 😥 And if its worth all of this hard work 🙄
can you talk about the different types of engineering and the jobs you can get with each degree? im going into engineering this coming year and I'm not sure which field I want to go into and there aren't great videos about the actual jobs you can get with each degree which is VERY important in my decision process.
At my school Biomed was a subset of ME (so you'd have an ME degree with an endorsement of Biomed). Not sure if some school still do it that way but it's possible. It was the same with Aero and Materials...subsets of ME.
Interesting that it falls under so many different disciplines. I'd rather it be a subset/designation on an ME or EE degree than a degree unto itself for greater variety of job prospects though. I'm 42 and a long time out of engineering school though, so times (and job prospects) have changed since I graduated.
HappyHandyLife yeah i agree with you actually since there aren't many jobs as of now for BME grads in my country (singapore) maybe because the industry here is overpopulated with little opportunities compared to overseas!
I go to University of Florida, also a senior, and study Computer Science. It's definitely hard as hell but you hit all the marks on how rewarding it is and how it opens up so many doors. 👏🏼👏🏼
lol. I'm an ME and I was the only girl in a lot of my classes. Take heart though. None of my guy friends ended up single ;) They either dated a girl from another major or they dated from outside the school. I know a ton of ME/EE couples including me and my husband and my sister and her husband.
I know this is a bit late, but maybe take into consideration your strengths vs weaknesses, as well as which one you can imagine yourself actually pursuing as a career. At least thats how I chose to major in Psych :D
wow I've never seen you before and I was worried at first about what you where going to say... but I am very impressed with your outlook! I've been dying to find more women like you that wants an engineering degree for the knowledge but not sure about getting a full time engineering position right out of college. I am a girl, senior Environmental Engieering student and I'm still very unsure about where I want to go with that out of college. I also see myself as a very artistic person. I love to paint and create beautiful things so I can definitely relate to your thought process with fashion. Just wanted to say I am so glad I found your channel!
I'm in CIVIL! Yup those bridges need to hold up lol But I SO feel you on the cubicle life. Luckily I get to go on a ton of site visits! Maybe I'll start my own open office engineering firm haha
Love the video, congrats on success! I had a classmate who graduated Mechanical Engineering, had a fashion apparel company, and he took alot of classes for fashion design and marketing on the side. It's totally possible to do both and its still applicable! Don't compromise.
@@yaeesh1 I'm not entirely sure how he decided on either of those fields, honestly. We weren't close, he was on my class team. My outside perspective is that fashion was an important part of his identity, he was a creative person, and alot of aspects of creative mechanical Design kind of crossover. I'm not sure the Fashion brand lasted, but I'm fairly certain he ended up in L.A. creating for Factory Ennova.
It's because I'm not sure what I like or want, my OCD gets in the way and makes me doubt my self. Like with science I like it but my mind is like May u don't... U know... And before it was like I chose subjects out of valdiation...
I feel you on being between completely different majors. I really wanted to go into Digital Filmography because of my passion for RUclips. But practically I'm good at math and science so I went with Computer Science.
watching this way late cuz it came up in my recommended and i am shook! i’m going to the university of kentucky for engineering this coming year and i was between fashion and engineering. i loved all the things u said and it was so reassuring! much love xoxo
Fellow youtuber/engineering major! It can be tough but it is sooo worth it ! I am so glad to see these videos, it makes me happy that more girls are doing engineering :D
I’m not sure if I want to do Engineering because I’m not sure if I’d be any good. I’ve done well in my geometry, physics, and logic-based math classes but I didn’t do well in my intro to calculus.... I also tend to do very well in English. I’m worried. Does it seem like I’d make it?
I remember from one of your videos, you were showing your notes and I noticed that you took a static class? Just wondering how you did in it? cuz I just took a final for it
Ive changed my major about 3 times since I have been in college. I would've loved to have had this when I was first starting out. Good luck with this series! :)
I'll be honest that I'd have no idea how to market either of those degrees. Being that they are always on the top 10 least employable degrees, I'd say that I'm in the majority on that lol.
Hunter Coldiron I'm an electrical engineering major too who is going to start a channel. :) Once the semester starts I'm going to be doing daily vlogs on the life of an Electrical Engineering major. I'll be a junior so some videos will have study techniques and other tips. Hopefully the videos will also allow people to see what it's like and how fun it is :)
Architectural Engineering? Or Structural Engineering? Do you have any friends on any of those major? Im currently a Senior .. Arch Major but I found myself enjoying more the mathematical concepts and structure classes than studio design I was thinking on doing a Master in Engineering Im just afraid I wont be able to make it since I've heard engineering school its a bit tough with their Math classes but I love math Ive always had, I wish i could have more info about it since my University doesnt offer Arch or Structural engineering at the moment Im a bit lost
I really want to do a history major but then I love The french language so idk what to do.. I can do France history, but I love ALL history ❤️ what should I do? And I don't want to do a double major
Writing is very important. As soon you climb the ladder in the corporate world you will write project reports and managing projects. Hence communication is very important.
Hey Natalie! Did you struggle in your science and physics classes? I love math. But I don't like science a lot. My main question is if you struggled in classes like science or physics, how did you overcome those hard times?
Mechanical or Industiral Engineering??: I'm more interested in the concepts and type of jobs you can do with industrial, but know that mechanical is more broad and you can do a lot of different things with it..........also, can someone with a mechanical engineering degree land a job in industrial engineering?
I'm just on my first year but I didn't do a lot of research and I totally thought architectural engineering was basically architecture and it isn't, it's similar to civil but a little more creative. It's pretty time consuming like every other field. But yeah, just investigate a lot :)
Any tips on how to score to get into a engineering course? I'm a Mechanical engineer wannabe. . And how it feels to be a mechanical engineer student. I would appreciate the advice and comments, thanks 😉
Kudos to you for balancing RUclips and a STEM major!! I am double majoring in nutraceuticals and psychology and I am barely find time to shower some days lol, amazing job!
I just finished my first year of chemical engineering at PSU. Does ChE get a lot harder? Is there any physics mechanics involved in ChE classes? Also how much actual math is used in ChE? lol sorry for asking so many questions but I want to make sure I don't pick a major I regret later. Thanks by the way ;D
*Note* everything I say is speculative and from my personal experiences, you may or may not agree with some of the things I said. This is strictly speaking from a Canadian job market perspective, the prospects in other countries will probably be different. Also, sorry for the essay. Cons Getting job experience for entry level positions is very tough if you don’t have any internship experience. Relevant internships are scarce, most of my classmates in my program did get internships, but in a completely unrelated field. Some are doing business analyst positions, supply chain and some are even doing coding. When interviewing for these positions, they’re already at a disadvantage; why would you pick a chem eng student over someone who’s in a relevant program. The people at the top of the class, with very high grades and extracurricular/project involvement will get often get mediocre positions because so few relevant positions exist. I’m going to the highest ranked Chemical engineering school in Canada, half the people in my program who've applied throughout the year still don’t have internships. Other engineering disciplines such as Industrial, Mechanical, Software, Electrical&Computer have significantly more jobs to choose from and location flexibility. Whereas you’ll have a few jobs to choose from and most likely will have to relocate to some plant in the middle of nowhere. Due to this demand for other positions, people with low grades and very limited involvement in other engineering disciplines will have an easier time finding a job than you. Lastly, you get very limited coding and software experience which the majority of in demand engineering positions require. Pros You are often able to apply to business and coding job positions whereas they can’t apply to jobs related to your field. The content is somewhat of a challenge, many subjects require deep and abstract thinking. There are many sub categories of chemical engineering you can choose from such as biomedical, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, petroleum and environmental which allow you to pick specifically what you’re interested in. If you don’t want to work right away, you can acquire high grades, have great extracurriculars, research experience and do a masters or phd or further improve your knowledge base. Tips if you're already in Chemical Engineering Don't waste your summers or any free time you have. For your free time, join clubs, do extracurricular projects learn coding etc. anything that would look good on your resume. For summers, look for summer internships around Jan-March online. If you don't get anything from online sources, go door to door to engineering companies around your area and ask them if they have any positions available, for either volunteering or for unpaid internships. At least 2/10 companies won't turn you down. The competition is very high for very few positions, so it's imperative you differentiate yourself. You're not entitled to anything, no one will hire you if you just have a degree. Final thoughts If you really want to learn more about the field of chemical engineering, love math and science or just want to be enlightened... sure go for it. But if you want a job, steer the fuck out.
I'm planning to take CIVIL ENGINEERING. Can someone, please tell me what job do this course do? And what are the things I need to expect when studying this course. Really need a reply. I'm currently dizzy picking a course to take.
I would like to know how hard the math portion is going to be. I'm OK in math but it's not my strongest subject and I'm in fear if it bring down my GPA.....
Yes it is, but it is going to pay off. Trust me on this. I'm 20 years out of engineering school. You are paying with 4 years of your life right now to have a much easier time for the next 60 years ;) Most of the people in the Extreme early retirement/Financial Independence movement are actually engineers/computer scientists if that tells you anything :) It's going to be worth the workload.
this video was so helpful! Fashion vs. engineering... my reaction was literally just like you showed!
I want to go into biomedical engineering!
that's weird in America there are so many

hi my name is nick and I'm studying computer science. how do i talk to girls. thanks.
lol
You're really lucky! There are no girls in my mechanical engineering classes
lol. I'm an ME and I was the only girl in a lot of my classes. Take heart though. None of my guy friends ended up single ;) They either dated a girl from another major or they dated from outside the school. I know a ton of ME/EE couples including me and my husband and my sister and her husband.
Lol i study Computer science and all the boys are either creepy or afraid of me
Im now my fifth year Industrial Engineering major!💕
im studying mechanical engineering and i love it
Lindsay Elisabeth me too!!! 💘
I'm heading to College in a month and i'm going for mechanical Engineering. That's Fantastic.
How did you choose that?
Saaame. in my 2nd year now. how are you liking it? :D
Do they teach ce too in that field?
What was your SAT score if you don't mind me asking, highly considering engineering as an option right now
I would love to know more about the medicine field/ pharmacy major or anything close to that. I love this new series! It's gonna be so helpful
debating between accounting, computer engineering, buisness management and medicine. any advice.

Is civil engineering hard? What do you study on that course? Did you graduated?
karen fernan bro don't worry about if you try it's super easy.
Can you make one on chemistry? I am a chem major but I want to see what others will say!
especially because I question my major all the time haha
Can you do one on nursing, pa and psychology?

omg! this is so relatable, I had the same thought process while choosing engineering a year ago
kinds of essays and what to write to get into college !
Please speak about the medical field! Specifically Nursing and Pre-Medicine
I remember from one of your videos, you were showing your notes and I noticed that you took a static class? Just wondering how you did in it? cuz I just took a final for it
I am doing Electrical and information Engineering.
