  • Watch the highly choreographed "walk down" preflight routine as the Blue Angel pilots climb into their F-18 Hornets, start them up, and taxi out for takeoff at the 2014 Cleveland National Airshow at Burke Lakefront Airport. You will notice that Blue Angel #5 has trouble starting his engine and quickly swaps to the spare #7 jet further back on the ramp.

    I noticed that too. then heard one of the jets spooling up. My quess is they may have had a battery start snag and commenced road side assistance.

    Ok this is going to sound screwy but has the pickup truck always been part of the process at the very beginning of each show, other than that just like it has been for the plus 20 years, everything else is still always done the same way......as the video progressed, beginning to think the truck was there only because they had to check something on one of the jets before it left, other than that, really beginning to think now the truck is not part of the routine. Then finially I saw that something with #5 just wasn't right so they shut her down and the pilot climbed out of it, thats a shame when something like that happens but always better safe than sorry.......then out of nowhere, a replacement came in from the left to take the place of the brokendown Angel......

    • @AirshowStuffVideos
      @AirshowStuffVideos  9 лет назад +2

      The truck only came out when BA5 couldn't get it going on cue, to either troubleshoot it or like in this case help him shut it down and speed over the #7 to fire it up.

      @@ericturner4850 the narrator is #7. He, along with Crew Chief #7 fly to the show site and get everything set up the day before the team gets there. The 7 jet is also a spare for the demo in case there is an issue with one of the other jets.

    what are they doing when each jet starts rolling? seems they all do some mickey ears thing punches in the air and some random hand signs upon rolling. anyone know?

    • @SassyRailfan
      @SassyRailfan 7 лет назад +2

      They have to do preflight checks of the rudders and flaps, and the controls in the cockpit. It's protocol to make sure that everything works like it should before take off. Their crew chiefs and other techs do the rest of the inspection of the plane, like looking for cracks on the plane, or anything else that might affect the plane.

    This was under Obama as CINC when jets broke down as a matter of routine and military aviation suffered its worse crash period! We now have parts and money and the jets are flying! At one time nearly half of all USMC F-18s were not airworthy!
