    Taft was sworn in as President in 1909, then became Chief Justice and swore in 2 Presidents: Coolidge in 1925 and Hoover in 1929. A President being administered his oath of office by a Former President. Lol

    Here is some historical fact. FDR and Nixon are the only Presidents who were on a national ticket five times. FDR: 1920 as Vice Presidential candidate; 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944 as Presidential candidate. Nixon: 1952 & 1956 as Vice Presidential candidate; 1960, 1968, 1972 as Presidential candidate.

    In case you didn't know Taft had died by the time Hoover left office.

    • @Arthwin2013
      @Arthwin2013  3 года назад +17

      Taft was so afraid of dying before Hoover because Taft saw Hoover as too progressive and he thought Harlan F. Stone was going to replace him (he would later become Chief Justice in the 40's), he resigned after getting reassurance that Charles F. Hughes would replace him at Taft's request.

      @@Arthwin2013 So John Nance Garner and Henry Wallace became chief justices since Garner swore in Henry as VP, and Henry swore in Truman as VP

    • @Arthwin2013
      @Arthwin2013  3 года назад +7

      No, they weren't chief justice, the chief justice only swore in VPs a handful of times. Sometimes an outgoing VP swore in the new VP, but it really doesn't matter who swears a VP in.
      Andrew Jackson once swore in John C. Calhoun in 1825.

    • @Arthwin2013
      @Arthwin2013  2 года назад +4

      Eisenhower was the first to not kiss the bible.
      Instead opting to say a prayer. So why Presidents continued that route I think was just by custom. Though I'm not 100% sure.

    • @texasborn2720
      @texasborn2720 2 года назад +3

      Kissing the Bible may come back in the future. It just depends what each Presidents wants or don't want. The oath of office is the only law constitutionally is required. Everything else is not mandatory. For example, Reagan was the first President to change the oath to the west front of the capitol . And every President after has done the same. But no laws say where the oath can take place. It can take place at McDonald's if a Presidents want's to. And the oath can take anywhere even out of D.C. We may have a atheist President someday ? if that ever happens ? Their will be no Bible or "So help me God" That will be interesting.
