Think of the frightened sick children watching, as one by one their siblings die and their mother cries daily. What a pillar of strength Mrs. Hancock was in such a cruel, cruel world. 😞
To lose one member of your family is a tragedy losing six i wouldn't be able to cope. every time I hear a story like this I think of the Sullivan family from WW2. Four brothers on the same ship were killed and it really still bothers me today.
What horror this family, especially the mother, endured. Hopefully they have rested in peace in the passing centuries. We modern westerners have little clue as to the hardships of life before the modern age.
I have been there myself, it is very poingnant to think that they had the presence of mind to "Self isolate" in that village, even though they knew nothing about bacteria or viruses back then (I suppose all they would say is 'god's will be done') But they knew that is passed from person to person and they kept away from the rest of the population until it was all over.
The mother must have been immune to this disease. It would interesting to see if there are any descedants from her family that can be traced and have some DNA tests to see what can be determined.
Such a terribly sad story. Great video!!
How heartbreaking for her. Little did she know hundreds of years later others would hear her story, and get a glimpse of what she went through

Digging all those graves in August is an enormous task especially getting her husband to the burial.
Some hardy people back then

Actually there were 5 brothers.
The great fire of London, destroyed the spend of the plague. It started from Pudding Lane. Amazing only 7 people died in the fire.
