The painters really saw her. What they had to do was wretched, but they didn't disguise the pain on her face. I believe they told the truth with their brushes. And at the same time they showed the natural beauty Eugenia was, with her glowing skin, bright eyes, rose blossom mouth, and a lot of shining black hair.

I can’t believe how rude and downright cruel some of these comments are. The OP is right. She is a lovely child and is clearly shown in the paintings that her features were ideal. She was surrounded by people who treated her like the nasty commenters, hence the ever present look of misery on her face and tears in her eyes. Shameful to treat a child that way, beautiful or not. It just so happens that she was a beauty with a terrible affliction. My heart hurts for humanity.

Poor Eugenia was the product of the royalty and rich people treating people as objects for their amusement but he’s the one who got the short end of the stick. He became infamous in the whole Europe cause Spanish people were mocking and making up rumors ab their own king 😭 he was nicknamed ‘El Hechizado’ or ‘The Wicked’ cause it was believed his parents made a deal with the devil so they were punished with the most ugly child. He was also laughed at cause he apparently had no libido bc of his health. He was also subjected to all kinds of tortures by doctors who used him as a research experiment cause he was so odd.

While during my high school years, we had a schoolmate who’s actually a boy but he physically looks like a girl with short hair, see there are female body types with flatter breast area, he was mistaken for that, her facial feature were really feminine, he’s 5’4ft, his skin looks feminine too, even his tone of voice, but he’s straight. However the reason why we don’t feel sorry for him on being made fun of his physical appearance, is for the reason he uses that for women to take pity on him and uses his charms constantly to get women’s heart, and decided to become a heart breaker, even if there was this girl rumors said went to a different school he dated, almost committed suicide after he replaced her, and when I overheard them talking about that ex of his during lunch time, he made fun of that ex of hers and laughed as if it’s all a comedy. That’s why he hates our guts for rejecting him, saying no to him, because he can’t play us like his other victims, something about his ego seemed crushed whenever he’s around us he never got to played with. As we become alumni of our school, we become part of one alumni group on Facebook, as years part by during my college years, he’s later became part of that group where we see his and everyone else’s social medias.A rains of years later, I became curious about how everyone else turned out since I haven’t opened my account for quite a long time, that’s why I left all my email and password in my wallet, as I opened my account from my mobile, and saw him and everyone else’s either from friends in the group or people you may know from the group, I saw his non-stop post about himself complaining that women are too shallow these days, repeatedly saying he couldn’t get a date since Facebook, Instagram and other social medias grew a larger amount of popularity. I said to my self “Well maybe because not only women, but people in general became smarter about reading other’s intentions of them”

I reached adult height at age 11. It was a lot more problematic for my brothers to cope with being tall with a Germanic appearance during the cold war which went on for a long time after the second world war. My poor brother Ron at only age 8 ended up being interrogated for hours once and his name was not cleared for being responsible for how an already disabled girl had been beat up in a playground nearby the public schoolyard -- Until the poor disabled girl when seeing him in person told everybody that he was not the one who beat her up. He felt crushed. Had it not been for how my mother stuck up for him when marching him down to that public school office where justice was being served well in contrast to how the nun principle of his school had treated him who knows what might have happened to him next. He felt so misunderstood soon after he fell very ill and has not been the same since.

You have such a sensitive way of describing her, which is lovely. The ignorance of the time must have been heartbreaking but they would not have known better. The man was as much a victim of his era as she was, with severe mental disabilities that rendered him essentially child-like into adulthood. He was constantly in pain, had outlandish expectations of ruling a country and continuing a dynasty placed upon him despite being infertile, his cranium wasn’t even closed. Perhaps she would have had the love of her parents but she might have been consigned to life in her room and would have had a much worse diet, but the psychological damage inflicted on her at court would have been terrible. It's a pity that the hypocritical Charles didn't look in the mirror more often and confront his own deformities due to the inbreeding of the Bourbons. It was the town her family lived in that mocked and insulted her to the point she became a prisoner of the family home. Being kept at the court would have been a vast improvement where it was reported that she was well liked. Objectified always, she likely felt isolated. Her weight issues caused her pain which may be reflected or enhanced for the portrait's painting to evoke more feeling. Paintings played a bigger role in that day. We forget how important when living in this social media age of selfies. The people that consider her due to the painting were those at court.

She obviously had a medical condition, which was beyond the era’s technology. IMO her family would not be able to give her the care she needed. She unfortunately would’ve been mocked wherever she lived. It’s a sad tale but in the same vein of childhood morality rates stated at the beginning of the video.

My husband, has said many times that he’s never known anyone who did that. He owned a restaurant/bar with a live music venue and I was always bringing people, who I felt were lonely, or if I heard someone make a rude comment about a person, I was sure to bring them to our table. As a child. For his own fame and fortune. All the comments here mock Charles II and talk about how horrible it was to treat a child like that... but people IN OUR CURRENT TIME IN SOCIETY thought it'd be cool to honor the PAINTER, and still treated the girl like an object to further HIS fame. That's why I called you an evil thinker. You thought of that. I did not.

Just to defend Charles II, he did not only have physical disabilities, he also had mental disabilities, so it's kind of understandable for childish behaviour to show up. They also regarded him as a really kind person, so they probably got along pretty well after some time had passed.

Even if the Spanish king wasn’t physically “ugly”, only those with an ugly heart make fun of others’ physiques & disabilities. You don’t have to be physically ugly to be called, “ugly”. If you’re an arrogant jerk who treats others horribly, you’re ugly. Also, I haven’t stumble across ANY King from the past who I’d considered to be decent or fairly good-looking (they were all physically unattractive, tbh), but in Charles’ case, he was the most unsightly of them all, as well as, ugly on the inside.

My husband’s niece has been exactly like this girl. When she was born, she was only 7 lbs and 18 inches long but by the time she was 2 years old, she was so heavy that we couldn’t pick her up. It didn’t help that her mother never cooked meals and fed her nothing but processed foods loaded with calories, sugars, fats and preservatives. She would eat 4 or 5 hot dogs at a time, large amounts of chips and they’d give her all the Mt Dew & chocolate milk that she wanted. They bought her share size M&M’s everyday. Starting when she was 2, they’d get her a Happy Meal from McD’s bc she’d get Chicken Nuggets small fry small coke, bag of apples plus they’d order her another large fry, I’m dead serious. As she got older she’d eat more at a time. When she started Kindergarten, she was 3 to 4 times bigger than the other kids her age. She weighed 75 lbs at 5. None of this is her fault and all of the adults in her life won’t stop giving her the junk food and are going to cause her to die from cardiac arrest at a young age.

I had a a nephew with Prader-Willi who also died young. I knew from the fist second it had to be Eugenia's syndrome, my nephew was just the same. These are the kindest, gentlest souls you will ever find, trapped in a body which constantly screams for food since they don't have the ability to feel full. So very sad.

But I don’t think Charles’ fascination with odd people is out of place at the time, and I don’t think it came from malice, those people were there just to entertain but I don’t think they were mistreated, they were being paid for their services.
