In terms of hangtime, this could have easily been a quad today.
That was soooooooo high. Wow!
Wow!! He jumped so high and stayed so long in the air!!
But what caught my attention the most was the curve he made on deep-outside edge throughout the run-up. That motion kept energy in his leg and counter motion helps him to jump high. It's like spring reaction. I understand Lz is considered the hardest jump among 5 types of FS jump elements, but somehow Lz can be most consistent once a skater has learned the feeling properly.
I kind of felt odd, when people started talking about wrong-edge on Lz after Torino Oly season, because they, including ISU regulations, only see skaters' edge at the take-off and ignore the counter power in run-up. Also, F jump looks so similar to Lz after they started edge call since then. F jump has centrifugal force from the entry turns, but many skaters, having no wrong-edge on Lz, seem doing straighten edge Lz-ish jump as F. I would rather appreciate characteristics of each jump and every skater, than "ok this is ideal, because here is this degree inside/outside by frame-by-frame playback" stuff.
Donald's 3Lz is better than many 3Lz that are done today, except maybe Boyang Jin...
Donald's outside edge was glorious, that's what we can't see today even among the best jumpers. I think edges were better in those times, when I was not even planed...to exist, and I am not so young.

the funny thing is that now there are little kids doing triple lutz - I know a 9 year old who can and triple sow, triple toe, triple loop, sometimes triple flip, and triple lutz.

@@bulalayaocarljasper8597 I mean quarter underrotations are hard to catch and when you need to use slow mo and even then it is unclear it makes you question how the judges are supposed to catch that, prerotation is not really in the rules. I will never understand why they stopped giving edge calls on lutzes tho

In this colour film this does not really look like the Don Jackson I know as My generation and so this guy is replacing the real Donald Jackson as Olympic Athlete at the World Champions which I do not think is real as a competition as a side by side to the Olympics in Munich Germany.
