@@deathwing9664 Gotta love the yu-gi-oh community, they are like a bunch of old grumpy men complaining about everything. When archetypes become a thing they complained about the lack of creaitivity. They didn't like that you had to play a set amount of cards without being able to throw in generic cards for more flexibility and indiviuality. Now in link format where everything is generic they complain about every deck being able to incorporate them, making all decks look similar to each other. You just can't satisfy this community
Yeah, I kinda hate this "Whoever goes first locks out the opponent from doing anything, and winning immediately, unless the enemy happens to have drawn into a hand trap, in which case, they win." That the game has "evolved" into.
Fusion summoning wasn't good until glad beasts pretty much, and they don't even use a spell, the extra deck in general wasn't used until synchros, besides some jankier strategies like chimeratech otk
Dang I just looked it up, that damn card has over 60 words... AND THATS JUST IN THE FIRST TEXT BOX TF?!?!?!?! And the second text box has over 100 words jeez.
"Where are the blue eyes cards?" "In the grave" It feels like that seriously. Like if you want a competitive deck, but want to play an archetype. You better be prepared to sacrifice half or more of your deck and extra deck to at least 10 hand traps, some kaiju cards, some solemn cards, what ever boss monster(s) that are busted, what ever engine is busted, whatever is the most powerful dragon and his friends, some support for these cards you don't care about, a big eye, a deep dweller, and for fun let's throw in some jars and an upstart goblin. You can now fill out the remaining 5 cards of your deck with the archetypes best cards(not your choice.) Odds are some of those 5 cards will be duplicates. So maybe 2-3 cards in the archetype if you're lucky. Yep this is totally a blue eyes deck don't you see the single copy of blue eyes in the deck?
It's fun how no matter which archetype you use in your main Deck, the Extra Deck will always be with the same monsters. *And don't forget to include 40 cards with negation effects in your deck*
@@Alex-he9mc I quit after arcV, but I've kept up with how the game is played now somewhat. I really don't like link cards cause they only exist to be a hinderence to pendulum cards. @@DarkN3r0 it doesn't destroy a spell, it locks the game. If you play MTG, it's a one-sided stax field spell for creatures, depending on who controls more monsters.
@@Frostgiantbutsmall why do you say me that "it doesn't destroy a spell"? Where did I tell that it destroys a spell? I never done that. This card locks the game temporarily. You can just destroy this spell and continue the game. Ever heard about Mystical Space Typhoon?
@@DarkN3r0 you said "Why? Is destroying a spell a problem in modern Yugioh?" with no context that you were talking about destroying the card itself. Hence, my comment. MST is fantastic, I'm a big fan Galaxy Cyclone as well since it's a 2-for-one; it is slower though.
@DarkN3r0 It is probabilities, in very simple terms. You're pitting a "highly searchable", powerful stun card (Mystic mine). Against an unsearchable maybe two-of (MST and/or similar) even three of, if you feeling audacious or you picked from the side deck. Even if you play all 3 MST, and you expect to draw them eventually, this is simply not realist, since one who plays mystic mine also plays stuff like solemn jugment and a bunch of stun to stop you. To put into perspective, when mine hits the field. It is your 3 cards [that you idealy need two of them immediatly (to play through one negate)] that pop backrow, in a fight against the clock and a 40 card deck.
This video summarizes all my feelings towards the new yugioh, I remember when summoning a single blue eyes white dragon was an accomplishment and fusing three bewd's and summoning the three headed version was basically a checkmate
Mystic Mine: "If your opponent controls more monsters than you do, your opponent cannot activate monster effects or declare an attack. If you control more monsters than your opponent does, you cannot activate monster effects or declare an attack. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if both players control the same number of monsters: Destroy this card."
MST... Yugi's DUST TORNADO, Mai's ARPIES FEATHER DUSTER... 21 years old StarterDeck MAGIC DISPEL C'mon, did a simple spell defeat you already. If you don't like it that's fine, but don't use a simple Field Spell with no protection to attack how the game is played today.
@@xm_heecka.laddder.job_mx5962 the game today isnt a game. its your opponent drawing their entire deck first turn and ruining the fun. the crazy new bullshit mechanics only add to that.
If you want to play casually than you need to find people who don't have any money and therefore no access to the best cards. Online will be even worse since you can use every card for free. So either play with children or play solo. If you want to play solo I would recommend yu-gi-oh legacy of the duelist link evolution
Not necessarily with my deck but I learn stuff about other decks or how their deck interact with my deck. Just today I got told that traptrix extra deck monsters are still effected by rivalry or tcboo even tho their effect is that they are uneffected by card effects. Crazy game
I just can't get over the fact that my "Chaos" deck used to be invincible. I remember putting a lot of money and effort into it! Now I look at something like my "Rokket" deck and it just baffles me how I know for a fact that it would mop the floor with my "Chaos" deck and I barely put any money or effort into building it!
I got Dragunity as my first when they were first released back in the day. Now I came back while some cards are in the OCG and I got a nice deck for about 50 bucks :) I am so glad that I came back.
Makes me really miss the old days of yugioh. And I agree with the "2 hrs later thing" as I've had to watch link summons and synchro summons for that long, just to bring out my dark magician
There are only 4 archtypes to my knowledge that even approach the 5 minute mark. The rest range somewhere between 1-3 minutes. I recommend just staying in GOAT format if you don’t want to play a modern deck
back then: little does he know i set a man-eater bug and a mirror orce now: negate negate negate and u lose 1000 lp chain i summon this card and now i summon every card in both our decks on my side of the field and now i attack you directly and i win
Yeah, I was ok with Synchros, they were fun. I did raise an eyebrow on XYZ monsters and never bothered to get into that but with the Pendulum stuff they had lost me. That "overpowering old cards" stuff made me quit YuGiOh. It's just not fun when your entire deck becomes obsolete over night.
In my opinion I find XYZs to be more simple and fun to use than Synchros. At least with XYZs, they're not hard to do so if your deck consists of monsters with the right level. Versus Synchros, they have to be on a certain level and a 50% chance of pulling the right tuner.
well most of the rules that's out today technically don't exist Because it's made specifically for store losers. And it's supposed to be for tournaments only.
With how many specific interactions there can be involving a single card alone, the whole starter deck box would be the rulebook. I don't know if they tell you in the physical book, but they should really point you towards the online rulings if you want to start taking YGO seriously.
Ngl, I can’t mess with new Y-GO, man. Makes me feel like I have to redo school all over again because I’ll be feeling so stupid after reading one of the card effects.

You know what I like the most about your videos? You can feel the friendship you guys have. The honesty, the heart and the fun of making these videos. I greatly appreciate your content. I been playing yugioh since 2005, but never made any friends on the process. That is why I started playing yugioh by myself, buying 2-3 different decks while having my main deck and never interacted with anyone with yugioh cards since 2009. If I were to meet all of you in a room, I might just want a hug and maybe couple of fun duels, as long as its not a burn deck of course... Yugioh in person duels make me happy, especially if the other person wants to play for fun as well. Thank you for the great videos!
I love how you guys can't hold the smile. It is just pure truth, especially the "i still don't know what it does' part. if i go to a shop people will have no patience, if i go to online stuff i used to time out!!
I too returned to the game after 10+ years, and casual duel is still fun, but the meta is a sinkhole of powercreep. Come on, the to-be-released Draitron have a monster that when summoned makes your opponent skip his main phase 1, and you can resummon it every turn, and guess what there is a continuous spell that makes both players skip the main phase 2, so your opponent won't play at all. If you tought that "banish a card from opponent's extra deck" or "both players can special summon only wind monsters" was broken...
I remember a time where it took a while to summon 1 or 2 monsters from the extra deck. Now today, you blink and your opponent has more than 5 monsters from the extra deck on the field.
It really be like back then pulling out two level 8 monsters in one turn was crazy to me. Now I try to play duel links and I summon a card then my opponent be like "I special summon my whole deck."
@@smallzkewl no worries you got that back in the day too with empty jar. It’s namesake being that it empty’s the opponents deck before they have the chance to play

New subscriber that came here from the podcast collab with Tolarian Community College. I'm no longer a Yugioh player, but I love these skits and are always super relatable to both Yugioh and Magic. I played casually as a kid watching the TV show, and then competitively from about the introduction to XYZ to about a little after Pendulums started showing up.
I remember when I tried to play Yugioh in duelingnetwork just for nostalgia, I've made a monarch deck that I used to play, I summon treeborn frog on my first turn and the next thing I know my opponent has a full board monsters with 2000+ attack.

Actually, even the anime has changed and has a ton of special summons. They're offsetting it with characters having their own unique abilities and stuff and the 4k hp still limits them, but the anime has been infected too.

Before:"Damn he blocked my normal summon, guess I had to rely on my set cards this turn!" Now:"Imagine stopping a normal summon in Adamancipator deck."
This was pretty much my reaction when i tried "Yu-gi-oh Master Duel". So much new stuff especially since i only watched the series up to half of Yu-gi-oh 5D's. still can't wrap my head around pendulum summons Then came the trauma from experiencing a 1 turn combo on turn 1 with enemy having a full field of monster with 3k ATT power or more. Comes to my turn. i have two cute lil critters, dragon that requires a tribute summon, a spell and trap card that do nothing for me atm. "Guess i'm fcked!"
Pendulum summon is indeed weird and somewhat confusing. I usually just put the pendulums for their effects and imo pendulums could have existed without pendulum summon.
Imagine caring about a monster atk. Explanation: Modern decks can easily combo into monsters that destroy or otherwise remove opponents monster from play. Boss monster are therefore not evaluated by atk or def, but by their ability to either clear the board for your final attack or resist your opponents removal (by being immune, being able to negate, etc.) and buy you another turn. Amassing the atk necessary to oneshot your opponent usually happens unintended while pitting removals and counters against each other.
@@peterhacke6317 wow, the gameplay sound so toxic xd like, hoever gets frist turn and blocks the important stuff from the enemy wins, at that point is just a coin toss for ho gets first turn and another for what you draw personally i find the old game at least a bit more healty even when there was some toxic decks
I remember what obliterated my perception of Yu-Gi-Oh was me trying to play online with a deck designed after Yusei's. I was promptly destroyed, asked what on earth happened, and was met with "We don't normal summon anymore."

a few days ago I had the urge to play yugioh again after like 20 years. So I downloaded Master Duel, started it, was confused, watched a few videos about the new meta, deleted it, reinstalled Yugioh Power of Chaos Joey the Passion. Man, I love Yugioh. It is so much fun.
Power of Chaos series was so much fun back then. Though those Morphing Jar 1, 2 and Cyber Jar deck out combos are cancer though.
Yeah believe it or not 20 years worth of additions means 20 years worth of things to learn
Bro play tag force on psp, its pretty good and has tons of characters with story. And gameplay is still simple enough. Tag force 6 is almost fully translated, new patch will come out on december.
I had POC Yugi The Destiny and it was fun in small doses. Installed it at work and tinkered with it on my breaks. Actually played it enough to get all the parts for Exodia.
Yugi was so proud of himself when he won with that deck. "I've finally broken the seal!" And then the animation of the cards appearing on the star.

It feels like that seriously.

It is probabilities, in very simple terms.
