      The original EAR 834P yes, not a clone, with a few cap upgrades.. But that was many years ago.. Designed by the late Tim De Paravicini.. Easy to listen to.. Relaxed and midrange has a pleasing tonality is what I remember..

    I use an original EAR 834p. Fantastic phono. Gets even better if you get 3 Telefunkens. With a good external SUT, its easily comparable to phono preamps in the 5000$ range!

    I just got the same EAR834 clone on it's way. Going to use a old Shure V15 type III MM Cartridge, Thorens td160b turntable SME Tonearm. Most likely put in some Mundorf Oil Mcaps.

      ok it's all done, upgrade Hammond Choke 154e, 2x 0.01uf mundorf evo oil caps, 2x 0.15uf, 2x 1uf caps, sounding amazing, clearer bass, clear highs. sounds very realistic, image really tightened up, need the volume very high now to hear any noise. it's like very small amount of white noise, tube rash, Thorens td-160b, shure v15 type III, split clone ear834, Yamaha A-S1100. Why isn't it all in one chassis just as the original is?

    • @abxaudiophiles
      @abxaudiophiles  Месяц назад

      Some do this to reduce noise that can be introduced by an onboard power supply.

    • @ClearOutSamskaras
      @ClearOutSamskaras 29 дней назад

      @@abxaudiophiles I had hoped that you wouldn't answer in that way, but you did. I realize that they are likely trying to overcome a noise issue when not going the single chassis route.
      My question was and is: the original EAR kept everything in one chassis and presumably did so without any noise problem. Why can't the makers of this clone do likewise? What is the impediment that they can not overcome? One would think that they should be able to provide adequate shielding and appropriate placement, all within a single chassis, so that noise is not an issue - just like the original.

      @@ClearOutSamskaras
      Well, I can only reply how my brain tells me too. 🤣🤣🤣
      Have you heard the original? I have not. Do we know there was no noise on the original? I don’t.
      All I know is that most times an external power supply is used to reduce noise. Often times from what I see in some of these “clones” is someone trying to take a step further in what could have been from the original.
      On the flip side, another issue, especially with these clones, is that the circuit may be similar, but the parts used are very low quality compared to the original. So people get sucked in by the “clone” verbiage as this implies identical, when in fact they are FAR from an actual clone.
      I’ve experienced this in “clone” amps, pre amps, phono stage, etc. Have yet to have any of these cheap Chinese clones that really wowed me.
      Sorry I couldn’t answer your question specifically as I don’t have the original of the clone to do a side by side. Without, we are both really just assuming and speculating. 😁😁
      Cheers. 🍻

      It’s a phono pre amp.

    • @uncola6028
      @uncola6028 4 месяца назад +2

      you plug it into your turntable and it converts the tiny signals generated by the stylus/cartridge rubbing against the surface of the record into normal rca 2 volt for input to your preamp. and then it makes julienne fries
