I had the same issue on my driver side mirror 97 LX 450 and used your fix. It took about an hour and maybe $5 for the epoxy. The only thing I did differently was to use J B Weld epoxy and not the putty stuff like you did. The J B Weld is a little runny and so it took a few batches to build up to new mounting hole around the wire nail. I did this repair about 3 months ago and it's still holding up. Thanks!!
Hi Bob, Glad to hear it worked for you. Since I did this repair, my mirrors held up great until last summer when one of my kids threw a football at the car and broke the inside part beyond repair. I ended up replacing them with the depo brand mirrors purchased from 1aauto, and they have been fine. They're not quite as nice as the stock mirrors though. Thanks for the nice comment, Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man
Mine has a bit of shaky mirror but also have the problem that the driver side mirror doesn't adjust, I can hear the motor working but doesn't move, and so far can't find a video about it, but will try to unmount it and see what I can do.
Yes, use factory Toyota parts and not aftermarket. They cost more but last far longer and simply function properly. Also, the Toyota starter can be rebuilt with new plunger and contacts for a small cost of rebuild kit.
I did this but with Liquid Metal as that’s all I had to hand. Paper clip reinforcement is genius. Thank you soooo much!!

Best of luck with it, hopefully you can figure it out once you have it taken apart.

Fantastic
Is there any way to make the starter on a 97 Lexus lx450 last longer, I go thru one about every 3-4 months
