Just a tip, because I like many others struggled with getting the ball joint into the mount. First, make sure you use the star screwdriver and NOT the phillips to loosen the bracket on the mount. (I lost the instructions and didn't realize the orange screwdriver was reversible.) Trying to make the phillips work will strip the screw. You have to almost completely loosen the bracket to get the ball joint from the camera to fit in. If you're having to use brute strength & force it, that means the bracket is not loose enough yet. This caused me a lot of headache til i figured it out LOL!
Still unable to get the thing in. Brute force doesn't work either. I have the screw loosened but no dice
I have the Ring Doorbell, It's been a pretty decent investment so far. Had it a couple of years now. $30 for another battery, giving you twice the life, seems like a worthwhile investment....eventually. Obviously, have it as you want but maybe point it a little further down so you don't have so much of the neighbors trees and can see someone up close by your back door? Great video man, good to see you still goin!
Aaron Wilhelm thanks brotha! Stay safe. Trying to keep busy during quarantine!
For 20 more get a solar panel
probably not a bad idea 🤔
Thank you now I can install myself. Was having a hard time getting screws in siding. Now I got it
You got this!
This is the exact video I was looking for. Thanks so much!
Awesome. Glad it helped 👏
Great quick tech tip!
Just got the Ring Pro 2 wired doorbell. Simple install once my multimeter confirmed low voltage.
Now I’d like to pair 1-2 more of these battery cams for side driveway and patio. So makes sense to use battery powered at those locations.
==> Having 3 months on the 1 battery is great.
Your videos are great. Very well put together, easy to learn how to use these things. Thanks bro!
Thank you 🙏 appreciate the comment
Thanks for the video. I have the doorbell Ring & 3 stickup cams indoors. I was trying to determine if a fourth stickup cam would suffice underneath the overhang over the front porch or to look into this spotlight cam.
Great review .. if I mount to the side of my house will I be able to turn the camera to face far left (almost 90 degrees) ? I was also thinking of using vinyl siding hooks so I don’t have to drill and damage siding. Not sure if had any experience with those
Buying this now! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the comment 👍

Just bought mine. Appreciate your review. Like you and your tone so I subscribed. 😁
Thank you! Hope it keeps the bad guys away.
were you able to loosen the holder strap and pop the camera into the mount? the phillip screwdriver they gave up did not fit and we were unable to loosen. the screw is a 6 hex head and ours we have didnt even fit
How hard is it to change the battery once it’s installed especially if it is up high?
Hardest part will be climbing the ladder. Just a quick squeeze, pull the battery out, charge it with microUSB, and pop it back in when it’s done.
Thank you so much for this helpful review. I am in the middle of purchasing one for my home. Do you know if the camera is good for picking up on car number plates that might be lurking at the front of the home?
Mandy, it all depends on how close the car is to the camera, as well as time of day and weather conditions. If it is dark out or raining, snowing, etc. you may not be able to read a license plate.
Great review. Im gonna get 2 of these and extra batteries. I hope the battery life is good.
"Delayed gratification!" I love that! Sub and Like added!
Thank you!
Thanks a lot brother, watching your video help me make my decision, thanks again...
Thanks for watching - glad it helped 👍
Great review, covered everything I wanted to know.
Thanks for the comment!
How’s the spotlight brightness at night?
Are you able to turn light off completely. Like disable the light only?
To get best position for a straight flush bracket mount to the wall, the mistake was the key. So in turns out, that was in fact a smart mistake!
Does this have continuous recording similar to how you can view continuous video with the Ring doorbell?
Great video Nick. Can I use an external cable to charge my spotlight cam battery without removing battery? Thank you
Thank you - i don't believe you can . . . i don't recall there being a charging port on the unit itself. They do have a hard-wired version tho . . .
Great video! Thanks for all the tips!
Blisters and Bug Bites thank you! Love your name - sounds painful!
@@QuickTechReviews ha- yeah- I picked it as a joke because of the alliteration and now semi regret it, but it still pertains cuz I hike and cycle.... and well, that’s the downside to those fun activities- LOL!
Should we be using vinyl siding hooks?
Thanks for the awesome review 💯
Thanks!
Is the subscription required for ring like you mentioned towards the end of your video? I thought I read that you can self monitor for ring which people liked over simplysafe. Maybe I read wrong?
Great review, quick and easy.
Thanks for watching!
This was helpful. Thank you.
Awesome - thank you! Hope you win big in Vegas! 🎰 🎰
I just had this camera delivered, and I'm ready to mount, and by coincidence I'm also mounting the base on the front of a backyard shed. Here is my question: at 3:56 you say 'there is a tiny screw on the side of the base which you can tighten to make sure it's secure'. When I try to 'pop' the camera into the mounting base, I find strong resistance. IE, I don't think it will fit. Did you loosen that 'tiny screw' to make it go in easier? If so, what tool did you use to loosen that tiny screw? The orange tool provided? Thanks.
Hey yes definitely need to loosen the tiny screw on the mounting base! I believe I used the same orange screwdriver provided with the unit!
Thank you Nick!
Everyone only shows how to install against a wall. Can the camera rotate so you can install under an overhang? Thanks
Hi is the light a warm white or white light?
Thank you for this video. Very helpful. I am struggling with installing the ball joint to the mount. I am trying to do this without mounting it yet and I am concerned that it will be just as much of a challenge when I mount it. I did unscrew the tiny screw on the mount but still no luck. Any advice will be great. Thank you!
You can see me struggling at 3:36 - try flipping the backplate on the camera unit. Should slide right down and out. Flip it the other way and see if it goes into the ball joint.
@@QuickTechReviews thank you. I had to use some force and unscrew the little screw on the mount to loosen
Very helpful! Thx
Glad to hear!
Thanks for your awesome video. Question. I have 2 batteries in. One is draining down to 60% and was just installed in about 10 days ago. If this one drains to 0%, does the second battery kick in automatically? Thanks! - Robert
Yes it should! I am going to get a second battery myself. Should extend the life by about 3-4 months
If you lost 40% battery life in 10 days you may to customize your camera settings. Things like HDR, video recording length, and snapshot capture and motion frequency will reduce your battery life significantly. Try to customize some of these options and if it’s still a problem maybe consider solar.
Thank you for review.
Does a light come on when motion is detected? Not the spotlight but like an IR light. I really need something to catch someone vandalizing my property every night and dont want them to run off if the see a light.
E R you can set it so the light doesn’t automatically come on
Hi does this camera swivel left and right. I'll need it to face an almost 90 degree angle
Nice video, how well
Does the light work?
Pretty bright - and when light comes on at night, the video turns to full color and is pretty darn clear! 👏
Is it easy to steal? Like I see there’s the ball from adjustment, but is it easily removable?
Great question - the bad-guy would have to have a tiny screwdriver on him to loosen the side screw on the ball-head - all while (hopefully) being recorded due to motion alerts. Ring will also replace your unit within 14 days of you filing a police report.
It is easy to steal, you can just yank it out of the ball mount, obviously it’s best to mount it higher up and as already stated, they will be captured on video and Ring will replace a stolen camera
Did you have to drill your own pilot holes? Did I have to buy the mounting bracket separately? I’m so lost.
Bracket should be included in kit. I didn’t drill pilots, but I did hammer in the screws a bit just to get them started.
@@QuickTechReviews finally got it after 30 minutes. Took a flat head and just popped it off 👍
Can you add multiple cameras to the app???
Excellent video
What about if you want to Mount this on an underhang like above your garage?
All you need to do is have the plate on the rear of the camera in the position he had it originally, around 03:35. That is the position you need for underhangs. He had to change it because he wanted it on a wall. Hope this helps.👍🏼
I’ve got this camera but it didn’t record someone stealing from my garden
It shows everything but when garden umbrella was taken it didn’t show who did it
Why was that
It was on full motion
I just got the cam and I am afraid of screwing on my siding. Are the screws long enough to go through the insulation and into the boards? Will it affect my insulation in any way? Do I have to apply caulk arounf the base? I have never screwed anything on vinyl siding before. I tried the with the hooks but they did not work at all...
From what I recall - the screws went in the siding pretty easily after a few taps with a hammer to get them started. Definitely didn’t mess up anything with insulation or otherwise. In don’t remember the screws being very long.
I didn’t do caulk and camera is still standing today with no issue.
Great review, just bought the twin pack.Chris
Thanks for the comment!
@@QuickTechReviews your welcome,I’ve subscribed too
@@urbanrider403 appreciate the support!
Tri state!! Thx man great review
Do you know about how high off the ground you positioned your camera?
It’s about 11/12 feet from the ground. Maybe 6.5-7ft above the porch.
We are not allowed to drill holes in our house any tips for setting it up without the drilling
There are a few accessories on Amazon that allow you to mount on say…your house gutters, or even better, clamp onto vinyl siding. Check it out.
Great video now I’m sure I’ll but one
What color is the actual camera LED? Is it a warm white yellowish type of color, or more of a cool white xenon type of color?
Cool white
How can I pop it in the socket?
Is this waterproof? Just wanted to check if it safe for outdoor with rains.
Yes - has survived quite a few rain and snow storms here in the northeast. 👍
Does the Ring camera come with the battery or do you purchase the battery separately?
It comes with one battery in the box.
@@QuickTechReviews Nice! thanks for replying... I'm just waiting for my Ring camera to arrive in the mail (: awesome review btw
@@annajuliatwinmama Thank you!
You say this camera is rendered useless unless you sign up to a subscription paying money every month? I don’t understand? Are you saying the camera can not be used without a monthly fee?
You’ll get notifications, live footage, and alerts when motion detected, but if you want history, or if you miss an alert, you can’t go back and see what happened without the subscription. Cray no?
So after buying the product you then have to pay for a subscription to use it? That's dumb
It won't work at all without paying for the monthly plan?
Amy Walker pretty much. You can hop in and watch live - but nothing will be saved to be viewed. Same with the doorbell.
I’m getting that one
I don't understand.....i can't drill the screw into a large wood panel
Buy a Milwaukee gun from Home Depot. That should do the trick 😎
Drill a pilot hole it’s cheaper than buying new drill
I'm having trouble getting the ball into the wall mount. It's like I have to use a lot of force to get it into the hole. Am I doing something wrong? Or should I have to force the ball on the camera into the hole on the mount?
Make sure it’s not upside down - like I originally did in this video. Otherwise there’s a small screw on the side of the mount which you should loosen and open up the claw.
@@QuickTechReviews thank u so much. I'm trying to unscrew it. Do I use the screwdriver provided?
Navitta Nelson yes. I forget now - but it might be a two sided screw driver? If not then either way the orange Ring screw driver should loosen that screw enough so the ball goes in
@@kemeticlady were you able to figure out getting the ball joint in? Am having the same challenge
Can it run at night WITHOUT the light coming on? I do not want to alert them they are being watched.
Yes you can turn off the light for motion alerts in settings
Does it continuously record or only at alerts ??
Alerts or you can pop in and watch live
Once you charge the Battery how long does it last...
Depends on how many alerts you get. Mine is in the backyard, so aside from birds, cats, lawnmower and the occasional high wind blowing trees around, my unit has lasted 5-7 months without needing a charge.
@@QuickTechReviews Ok Thanks
There's a piece attached to the mount with a screw...did you have to take that piece off? My ring is not going in the mounting\socket. ughhhh
you don't have to remove it entirely - but you need to loosen.
@@QuickTechReviews Awesome! Thanks for your response!😁
@@doreaner No problem - if still having issues - check out 3:35 mark in the video - which might be the issue as well.
@@QuickTechReviews ok. Will do.
Hey I was wondering if the stoplight comes on automatically at night when picking up motion
Yes it does
Ok thanks so far how’s everything going
@@youngprince9326 Good - no real complaints - haven't bought a second battery yet - i'm fine with recharging it every few months - but they're pretty cheap if you wanted to extend the battery life of the unit.
Thank man hood to know on my way now to pick this up!
what do you mean by "its useless without the paid subscription"
Without subscription you don’t have access to video history - so you’ll always have to catch alerts live or never see what happened.
Maybe they changed it but that’s how it was when I made this video - and I’m still payin’!
Can the camera be motion sensor based
Yessir - and you can adjust the specific area it senses and sensitivity. 👍
Hey nich is battery is rechargeable
lucky211186 yep rechargeable. Included battery lasts around 4 months; you can buy a second one and install 2 batteries which should last almost a year. When battery low, just pop it out and plug into USB charger. 🔌
How many hours can battery last with full charge inside camera and does it connected to police station or siren when bad guys are near property
Does not connect to police station or anything - alarm is just to scare the bad guys away - but Ring does offer a full-fledged security system with 24/7 monitoring if that's something you're into. Battery lasts roughly 6 months depending on how many motion alerts you get. Sometimes this will only last me 3 months if I'm outside playing in the backyard with the kids and forget to turn off motion alerts before going outside. It will essentially keep triggering and recording every 30 seconds draining the battery!
2 days. Don’t buy this.. it’s a garbage!!!🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
Great video important facts like how long the battery lasts. Had I seen this video before purchasing the solar panel I would’ve reconsidered getting the solar
The solar was relatively cheap if I remember - not a bad investment!
We use this. 👍🏻
Is battery rechargeable
Whats battery life like between charges how longs it last and is it worth the second battery
Using wired, not battery.
I’d really recommend combining the battery with solar panel if your location gets decent sun. The battery life really isn’t that good when you have the camera in a high traffic area and it’s constantly needing to record.
yeah that's a smart move, especially for how cheap it is
You're the Daily Dose of Internet guy!
😂
Are these waterproof?
Yessir. Weatherproof. Has survived quite a few rain storms here in NJ.
@@QuickTechReviews thank you
Why do you need to pay?
If you want to access your video history, you need to pay their monthly or annual fee.
So far I only have one of the 5 up. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe My son ran out of time, with motion detector etc. I have it over my garage door. It works great. Have seen a couple of cats, my dogs, when I am out front. And had a bee buzzing around right in front of it. It works very well. It even shows the neighbour's driveway, but only shows movement just past my own, which is very long. I highly recommend them.
Another review that doesn't address the condensation/moisture build up on the lens at night. :-/
Battery only lasts 25-30 days...not 2 to 3 months!!!!!!!!
Wow. Dang. You must get a lot of alerts...try tweaking the sensitivity area and notification times. 25 days is definitely too short
@@QuickTechReviews removed from porch and put back in box.
Ours isn’t even popping in
Ashley Nicole loosened the screw on the side of the mount?
@@QuickTechReviews we weren’t even able to do that with our phillip screw driver. the screw was a 6 hex head
@@AshleyGlougie hmm it’s been a while since I installed it, but Ring should have included an orange screwdriver with a two-sided, removable head

You don't need a subscription to use this product!!!!
Technically yes. If you are available 24/7 to monitor the live video feed when you get an alert. If you want recordings of alerts then you need a subscription.
