    I still think this is your best design because, as you said yourself, you wanted a design close to what the game portrays, with a blade that ejects forcefully. Out of all the designs, this one has the strongest ejection force. It doesn't use rubber bands, which I always find problematic for mechanical mechanisms, and it also avoids plastic parts like the "frog legs." To reduce the "ratio problem," I think you could simply make the spring enter a bit into the base of the blade, even if it protrudes slightly from the mechanism. In my opinion, having part of the spring visible would bring an even more interesting design, as I always like to see parts of the mechanisms in mechanical devices. This way, the internal block that's locked by the latch could be smaller.

    • @CrashMakerspace
      @CrashMakerspace  Год назад +1

      Yea totally, I too like springs for their longevity! Each design has their pros/cons for sure; the newer models are primarily an exercise in creativity to investigate the possibilities of making double-action string blades that are less than 1/2" total thickness which hadn't been designed yet!
      Ideally myself, or even another maker, can combine some of these attributes to something that's the best of both worlds!

    This is awesome. 3d printing has really revolutionised prototyping. I remember spending days researching otf mechanisms at 13 years old, armed with a hacksaw, some drill bits and a bit of metal plate trying to create something similar. They never worked tho as my tolerances were not exactly tight per say

    • @CrashMakerspace
      @CrashMakerspace  Год назад

      Yes, 3D printing is the best haha, it's also reproducible so something doesn't work you make updates and re-print. It also can create shapes that would otherwise be impossible

  • @stanleydegraef4442
    @stanleydegraef4442 Год назад +3

    Really nice to see that there is someone working on 3d printed hiddenblades again. I still have some prototypes of my own, maybe it's time I dived back into it. The design I was working on was just a classic otf style. Its really cool seeing the way you have innovated the design.

    • @CrashMakerspace
      @CrashMakerspace  Год назад +1

      Go for it! It is a really interesting project to solve. The newest design has an otf mech but split into 2 sliders within the same plane to get the size down to just +6mm above the blade, but it’s being support finicky to get running

    Instead of one large rotary wheel mentioned at 2.08min in. Have you considered substituting it for 3- 5 smaller rotary wheels and that way you could maybe even get rid of the circle look and making the circle look wide and . True the mechanics could make discarge slower if done incorrectly.
