A great solo player tactic for the wolf spider is the gas arrows if u shoot them at the ground around the spider and dont hit it they wont engage you it takes around 15 gas arrows and they will drop this works wonders with the two wolf spiders under the oak tree they sleep close together so you can really stock up on the parts quickly.
You forgot to mention wolf spiders have a tracking ability. They can track you from their territory all the way back to your base. It's a frightening AI mechanic for sure. Love the vids, nice info
Great video!!! Here are some personal tips I have after switching to single player for now. 1) Even if you time a perfect block your armor will reduce in durability and hence when fighting something you are not confident or say wolf spiders. Just put a lean in on some high ground some distance away from the territory and go in naked to practice if you like. Shoot arrows from high up will usually make them run away only to stalk you from afar as the AI can hear/see you better than you. 2) wolf spider and orb weaver does poison dmg so even with lady bug armor you mostly get 2 shot from wolf spider. But u can make smoothie? ( a smoothie without any recipe or green machine. 3 random items). What it does is it heals you with around 1/4 or 1/5 hp instantly and you can even do that mid combat and there is no drinking animation. while you can use bandages to pre buff as it heals you with ard 2/3 hp but over a period of ticks on few secs. So i tend to see bandages as a pre buff thingy or after battles. 3) always try to keep your self full or 2/3 hunger meter as hunger is related to your cost of action that uses stamina. 4) Hugging strat is very good as mentioned in this video. trick is to walk forward n side ways into the cheek or arm of the beetle. 5) Bombardier beetles spit have a weird glitch now. they can shoot one way and still track you at times. But the best bet is to take a fast weapon like spear and dont block. 6) wolf spider attack patterns are usually 3 quick bite 1 leap. the leap tell is when he puts his front arm up n pause longer. the timing is mostly as he about to land on you. But he is definitely rough to fight. A good way to practice is time block + 1 swing = win (dont swing x2 even if u whiff your swing)

Set up a kill zone. There are certain spots (resources block) that you can lure the bugs from. They will stop moving and you can freely hit them with your bow. Works with all bugs in game.
I’m glad someone else found the larva weird when I played after the update and before I didn’t know they existed but then one just sneaked up on me and scared the hell out of me
Just started playing 2days ago and really needed this video.. Thankfully I now have access to acorn armor..insect and bee armor .. Also have 2 types of bombs i use on big insects.. Takes like 2 or 3 hits to kill after I bomb them
One strategy I use against spider is to go inside one of the little white domes. The spiders can’t reach you in there and you can occasionally poke out and hit it
It took forever for me to kill a Wolf Spider, let alone one in melee. My first was filled with arrows and poked with a spear while it was pinned between an oak root with a small dirt mound under it. After the Ladybug Armor and Ant Club I thought that I could take one personally. Nope. So I figured I'd cheat and research available options to power up my arsenal, but the mint was bugged so I couldn't harvest it. So I crafted a quiver of Toxic Arrows to accompany my Insect Bow and maybe repeat my original victory. Nope. Toxic Arrows either don't apply the poison effect or the Wolf Spider is immune. Or perhaps it was because the eight legged freak would run from my safe spot and spontaneously regenerate all missing health. So I resigned myself to never be able to face the apex predator of the backyard. It was later that by staring at the numberless bar attached to my equipment, I would discover that the Insect Hammer almost had the same level of damage, an equal amount of stun, and while it wasn't as fast, it consumed far less stamina. So with a few Smoothies[?] while it was dazed, I was able to actually kill a wolf spider in melee combat. Then I found out why I couldn't harvest the mint for a Mint Mallet was because I was standing too close to it and boy did that piss me off.
Your ladybugs must have been soft. If mine hit me, they often stunned me and kept doing damage. And I ran out of stamina before I could do much. And if I tried to take cover, all their health came back. They were tougher for me than Orb Weavers, bombardier beetles and stink bugs. Then I got the mint mallet and now the pose no threat, but before that they were nearly as deadly as wolf spiders. On the regular survival difficulty with thirst and hunger.
Creatures at the level of worker ants or below, use a T1 hammer to land the first hit, then switch to the T1 axe and hit 4 times, it dies before it leaves stun. At higher levels, the mobs stun for less time I think. The soldier ant for example does not stun from that T1 hammer, meaning Stun damage is a gauge we have to 'reach' by X number of hits. If we have a insect blade that is highly damaging and fast, and a insect hammer that is highly stunning, you can start with the hammer, then combo with the blade, then switch back to hammer to re-stun the target. I also don't know if targets have a cooldown in between stuns, or if they can be infinitely stunned.
I came to the comments looking specifically for someone mentioning this strategies because it works great. Everything In the video was common sense if you've played a video game before
@@johnjacobs1356 I think a soldier ant has roughly double the stun gauge required than you see in the weapon spec. Worker ant is 50% of that gauge and Soldiers might be 100% or higher. Note that we don't have numbers associated with the weapons. We don't know exact damage, except that its low/med/high dmg.
I'm an Ark player so I just built traps and murdered them all. A giant spider will basically get stuck rearing back when it's on the other side of a stem wall with windows, A stink bug can not go through a single doorway, etc. Keep a repair wrench handy (it doesn't need resources to fix things)
If your playing with 2 people for the wolf spider (if you have mint mallet) just charge into it when it’s sleeping and just attack with to people I killed 3 of them in one grounded day. I recommend this strategy if you want to kill them faster and don’t mind taking some damage. Of course using the Arow strategy works well to by getting it stuck
if youre like me and not much of a melee fighter, first thing you do on day one is to get 50 thistle spikes = 100 arrows and a bow. then head to the lab, before you get in , pull the wolf spider which sleeps under the tree on daytime. retreat into the lab. now cat and mouse the wolf spider at the lab entrance door, and shoot him until his animation gets "stuck". shoot remaining arrows... loot. craft tier 2 bow. happy hunting. youre safe inside that entrance as long as the wolf doesnt look straight inside the door at a 90 degree angle.. he wont leap through.
Theres a rotten ant club in the bottom right of the map, between some stones in the stone wall underneath the second research center. A full ant killer cult like base is there
Marcus Satherley that is not useful enough for how much traveling u have to do it is probably about the same as a spikey sprig and those r super easy to get and regular ant club is no sweat either
I know this is a combat guide, but if you go to the tree, there is a specific greenish holey leaf with a wolf spider underneath it, if you have the bow you can just fire away and from what ive done it cannot attack you at all
My tip: If you are the team melee make sure to level up a Mosquito Raiper so you can heal midcombat and early game keep a spare ladybug chestplate and black ant sheild so you can block nearly anything pre upper wall without taking damage.
I know this is an old video, but wanted to clear up a misconception - if the AI can't track you very well with their attacks it's because it's intentionally designed that way, it's not because the AI is "bad". And vise versa, the Wolf Spider can track you a lot better with its attacks is because it's designed to be much more accurate (and thus lethal), not because it (or its AI code) was developed for longer. There's no amount of movement that can save you from attacks that are coded to track well. In fact, coding AI to miss, based on (good) movement, is an important step to making the combat feel rewarding, which is the opposite of the AI "not working properly". Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of things in game development history that were unintentional, but ended up being good/fun. It's, however, very important to remember that almost everything you think is unintentional would literally not exist if it was not coded into existence very intentionally and tested thoroughly.
I spent some time in this game learning every bugs attack patterns so now every single bug in the game; except soldier ants and bombardier beetles: Are ez 2 me
you can imagine how much fun I'm having being a former pest control technician. all they need is chemical tech and i will never stop playing this game lol
I rarely get to fight an aggressive insect one on one. I’m almost always running from multiple at once or fighting 5 different bugs at once. Smoke arrows have saved me numerous times.
Easiest way to kill a wolf spider or any huge bug is to find a small opening that you can get thru but the bug can’t.It will either stop right at the middle or get stuck.
I know this is an old video, but I think a more useful tip would be to use elemental/damage type weaknesses to your advantage. For example, you show yourself taking down several ladybugs with piercing damage when they are resistant to it. This increases the amount of time you spend fighting it, which is bad if you're not good at perfect blocking... better to use the slow and clunky hammer - it will do more damage per swing (by a LOT, test it yourself) and also more stun per hit... and a stunned enemy does zero damage. Most of the enemies in the game aren't that hard if you're properly prepared with the right weapons and mutations.
@@frozenburst64 if you stand on top of it and hit them they will try to buck you off, idk how many times it hits but each time i have tried and it killed me.
Thanks man, I've played once and I nearly had a panic attack! Those spiders are freaky and look huge on the screen, my heart jumped in my mouth. I think I'm going to go back and work my way through your list, working on easier bugs. I kept getting swarmed by orb spiders down near the fence or bombed by mosquitoes by the river, I just going back to the lawn and farming a couple ladybugs, practicing my blocks a bit until the fundamentals are okay before moving on to other stuff seems like a plan. And yeah, the wolf spider chased me from the pond all the way to the laser box at night. It just would not eff off.
I hate larva as well, there was like 10 of them, they destroyed my base and a 2 storages and crap went everywhere, thanks for tips btw keep it up can't wait to see what else they add to the game
Y'all are playing on easy, but the real tip for combat for harder enemies like the orb weaver, bombardier beetle, and wolf spider is just to get them trapped in a spot where you can just shoot them with arrows
My personal best way to kill a wolf spider is to have a tiger mosquito rapier so you gain health while attacking this can also help with the poison damage also have a black ant shield so you can block a weevil shield will work to
For wolf spiders you just need to get down perfect blocking and you should be able to kill it by yourself in a breeze. Also unequip your armor because the wolf spider will eat right through it if you get hit. That's why you should be a lean to nearby where the spider is so you can get a respawn point and if you die you'll easily get back to where you were to get your stuff back.
I should mention that perfecting the perfect guard will also make all other insects and arachnids a breeze because perfect guarding has a chance to stun the enemy.
Honestly I just got my bow, 60 arrows, a high ground and shoot away, I got the most important parts very early on doing this. Once you get the tier 2 bow you will be killing everything in your path supe r fast.
I believe is a glitch, but you can trap Wolf Spiders (so far the only enemy I know) on the strange device. I don't know how but Starsnipe had it chase after him, and he ran off the device. And for some strange reason the spider got caught on the center of the device. So he shot it to death since it couldn't run away for some strange reason.
Fun fact you can turn wolf spiders into glorified orbweavers using a mutation you get for killing 5 wolf spiders, it gives immunity to poison damage and I think it’s called mithridatism
If you sprint for a second aim the bow and back up you still get a boost in speed, although you’ll still be using stamina, using this trick I can easily back up and bow ladybugs and they’ll never catch up to me. Just make sure your in an open area and you’ll be fine!
Personally, I’ve been using the mint mace, cause I made my base right next to the mint container. Once you have the insect hammer, u pretty much have the best weapon in the game.

Sick intro man!
Honestly to me bombardier beetles are just roided lady bugs no idea hoe u found them easier
Pro tip: switch to 3rd person camera. I am fully confident going against wolf spiders now.
How do I do this?
Incredibly helpful video: clear, concise and extremely informative... well done :)
I'm an Ark player so I just built traps and murdered them all. A giant spider will basically get stuck rearing back when it's on the other side of a stem wall with windows, A stink bug can not go through a single doorway, etc. Keep a repair wrench handy (it doesn't need resources to fix things)
I recommend everyone make the smoothie, Liquid Rage.
If you have the mint mallet and ladybug armor, it’s hard to die to anything besides a wolf spider.
WOLF SPIDER:
HEDGE BROOD: AM I A JOKE TO YOU
If your playing with 2 people for the wolf spider (if you have mint mallet) just charge into it when it’s sleeping and just attack with to people I killed 3 of them in one grounded day.
0:14 that obito mask is sick
thanks a lot. Big help for my wife to get into fighting and not fleeing :D
I know this is a combat guide, but if you go to the tree, there is a specific greenish holey leaf with a wolf spider underneath it, if you have the bow you can just fire away and from what ive done it cannot attack you at all
I usually end up rocking the Ladybug Armour, one of the spears (Often stinger), and a shield. Great for fighting bigger targets.
The wolf spider is just annoying because it can somehow hurt you from like 10 cm away
Learning how to perfect block is key.
It's the leg attack that for some reason also inflicts poison.
I spent some time in this game learning every bugs attack patterns so now every single bug in the game; except soldier ants and bombardier beetles:
Are ez 2 me
Strugle with some insects...
Me: said someone cheese tf out of this spiders? 🙈
you can imagine how much fun I'm having being a former pest control technician. all they need is chemical tech and i will never stop playing this game lol
I rarely get to fight an aggressive insect one on one. I’m almost always running from multiple at once or fighting 5 different bugs at once. Smoke arrows have saved me numerous times.
And here I am. Getting killed by Larva
Hey we’ve all been there!
I don’t know about you guys but ladybug armor plus mint mallet makes you a absolute MONSTER
Easiest way to kill a wolf spider or any huge bug is to find a small opening that you can get thru but the bug can’t.It will either stop right at the middle or get stuck.
This game is a brutal survival endeavour
I know this is an old video, but I think a more useful tip would be to use elemental/damage type weaknesses to your advantage. For example, you show yourself taking down several ladybugs with piercing damage when they are resistant to it. This increases the amount of time you spend fighting it, which is bad if you're not good at perfect blocking... better to use the slow and clunky hammer - it will do more damage per swing (by a LOT, test it yourself) and also more stun per hit... and a stunned enemy does zero damage.
Most of the enemies in the game aren't that hard if you're properly prepared with the right weapons and mutations.
the ladybug does have a special attack, its only used when you are standing on top of it.
What is the special attack then?
@@frozenburst64 if you stand on top of it and hit them they will try to buck you off, idk how many times it hits but each time i have tried and it killed me.
I was today years old when I figured out you can change the difficulty thanks lol
Thanks for making this video I can take out bombardier beetles most of the time
The most dangerus insect is actually the Hedge broodmother, but it's also a boss
This....just got into this game and I'm still trying to get over those things lol
I hate larva as well, there was like 10 of them, they destroyed my base and a 2 storages and crap went everywhere, thanks for tips btw keep it up can't wait to see what else they add to the game
I use the Ladybug amor and the Minthammer is the best Weapon! 5 hits kills a Ladybug, 13 hits kills a Wolfspider
Y'all are playing on easy, but the real tip for combat for harder enemies like the orb weaver, bombardier beetle, and wolf spider is just to get them trapped in a spot where you can just shoot them with arrows
Yeah, I killed a wolf spider before I knew half of the other bugs existed, just by getting it stuck where it couldn't hit me.
Wait until that's fixed.
Your missing the Hedge Broodmother! the boss at the frisbee
That's the same as a wolf spider, well, it was
Gr8 vid thanks. Bombadier the only one who still messes me up bad..wolf spider a beast but like you said, mind over matter to focus on technique
Man this thing really helped out
Respeckt for your intro and the Tips
I always get a peblet hammer and axe. The axe is for attacking and the hammer is just incase they need a little bonk to keep them in check
My personal best way to kill a wolf spider is to have a tiger mosquito rapier so you gain health while attacking this can also help with the poison damage also have a black ant shield so you can block a weevil shield will work to
Reared twenty feet in the air now, did it?
My tape measurer begs to differ. At best a few centimeters.
Pics or it didn’t happen
BROOO YOU JUST MADE ME GOD IN THE BACKYARD 😂😂😂😂😂
The two people strategy remind me of something like a paladin and Rogue in a role play game when those two are on a team
I would recommend just using spider gear for endgame because the speed just lets you dodge everything
Most ppl stay away from orb weavers, but if you have the ant club and acorn or grub armour you can easily beat it
Cmon man I can’t believe you forgot to include lawn mites
Shit! I knew I forgot something
Legion Gaming haha keep up the good work
You must be playing on easy because the bombadear beetle acid did like no dmg to you
his armor
Ikr
david betterton no I have ladybug armour and it did like 70 percent of my health and I’m on medium
Neil Shaw thats not true i also have ladybug armor on medium and it did almost no damage keep dreaming tho
Neil Shaw or u stood in it for the whole time like a dummy
I'd like to see you do an updated video at some point to include bees and mosquitos!! (Maybe on Hedge Mother as well?)
Amazing video
Personally, I’ve been using the mint mace, cause I made my base right next to the mint container. Once you have the insect hammer, u pretty much have the best weapon in the game.
The insect hammer does pretty good against lady bugs as well
For the grub armor the grubs spawn mostly at the tree btw
