When I first played this game ages back, when it was still in beta stages and didn't have much going on - I never used a shield or blocking (it's a bad habit from playing Souls games where I'd just dodge instead). Once I started utilising the shield and blocking properly, it made the game INFINITELY easier, like, unbelievably so. Definitely also adjusting your gear and attacking according to insect weaknesses made a huge difference. I tended to be lazy and just kept the same kit across the board, but realised some insects were way too difficult (like ladybug in early game). Once I used the appropriate weapons it made the battles far easier.
I’m subscribing the detail and time you took to make this video shows that you love making content and making sure your subscribers love the content too
Can we get a moment of silence for this dude, he went through the struggles and annoyance of learning how to fight the majority of the bugs off. Absolute legend, I appreciate it your work dude. 💙
Also a tip with flying bugs, when you parry their attack and they got stunned, as soon as they do the stunned animation (in the air) you can immediately hit towards them(in front of you) since their hitbox is already there for some reason saving you some little time and deal more damage while they're stunned
Not sure why you don't have 1.81 million subs. lol Great job, you got a like, sub, and notifications. You remind me of another RUclipsr, Tim Dodd. He makes extremely in depth vids as well, and they're "not done until they're done!"
You can actually block the firefly's attack but you will still receive the slowed movement debuff. Also you can one shot them if you have a mid to highly upgraded rust spear and javelineer at phase 3 and huck the spear at it
56:25 the Mint Mace doesn't deal generic damage, only Fresh. The same goes for any other club upgraded down the "Fresh" path at level 6. The Salty Morningstar also does not deal any generic damage.
Yep yep, you are absolutely right on both comments. They had it wrong on the wiki. I only recently found out just how much stuff is wrong on there. We have been tidying up the wiki fixing some of those mistakes.

No worries! A lot changed in the span of producing this vid, so I had to make a section at the beginning discussing those changes. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Pro tip for worker ants: they have 2 attacks that start up the exact same. Block as soon as they start hissing and they might attack. If not just wait about 1.5 seconds then block again.
Just wanted to say good tip if nobody has, for ladybug red ant club everytime and throw it at her head. Try and aim so it bounces too you, if not just train the lady bug until you can grab it then throw again. Mass dmg and very quick to kill safer too. Same could work w poly.
little disappointed that this didnt include bosses, but the black widow guide is very helpful, this video also taught me that playing with friends actually increases the health of bugs! I have over 300 Hours on this game and I somehow didnt even realise this! 😅
Sure someone else has made this statement before but one way to make the pond easier is when your attacking the moment your attack connects quickly block. This will end the animation much faster and can raise your dps drastically. Effectively getting about 2 swings in in the same time it takes to do one full swing. This makes fighting diving bell spiders much faster and turns a 20 or 30 second fight with a pebblet dagger where you have to block or dodge at lest 3 or 4 hits into about a 10 second fight with much less attacks to dodge. This also works for shovels to speed up gathering gum and clay. Wait for the shovels attack to connect on the node and speed up clay gathering. Honestly i think the reason this works so well with underwater combat and the shovel is the fact that unlike all other tools and weapons they dont benifit from the 3 hit combo with the final hit doing roughly 2x or 3x damage so it makes shovels feel slow and shows just how weak most the daggers and spears are if you only factor the first hit. They really need to rework underwater combat slightly by making the damage value of gear scale based on if your in water or not that way the slow attacks are less cancer. that or just add a 3 hit combo to water. the flaws of water combat really start to shine when you have to start fighting spiny water fleas when sheer numbers outright makes combat a battle of sheer attrition or outright not worth it. Sorry for the rant there. But yeah attack block attack block attack block once you get the timing down you can string about 2 or 3 attacks per second with the spear and about 2 swings of a dagger in a second. This is clearly not intended but is at lest balanced in the fact this does not work with hammers and axes sense the 3rd hit in the combo is better then spamming 1st hits by block spamming.
As a newbie, I surprised myself with two killing infected wolf spiders before the normal one with roly poly set and rusty spear with a TOXICOLOGY badge with no smoothies and no upgrades.
The mosquito was intimidating but after I died a few times got used to its attack and killed it wearing only grass armor, using a shield and peble spear. It's easy as long as you keep track of it zooming around.
Mosquitos are op early on. Glad you got a shield! It really makes them more manageable. If you haven't yet, get yourself the mutation Spicy Safety. It will lower mosquitos attacks (stabbing) in half! ruclips.net/user/shortsd5qkvjGTdj0?feature=share
For the Black Widow, I strongly recomend using ( Mask of The Mother Demon - Termite armor - Fire Ant Legplates (Sleek for all), Power Droplet, Fire Ant Sheild, no weapon, Lil Fist - Coup De Grass - Meat Shield - Trapper PEEP.R - Truffle Tussle. This makes a very strong build and can beat just about every boss in the game with ease
Wish I watched this before fighting the infected wolf spider lol. It jumped me at the tree. And I slowly backed away to get to my lean to. At that point in time I had 0 prep, the wrong weapon, weak armour, and only fiber bandages for heals. Died like 8 times but the most annoying part about the fight was how fast it regenerates health. If I got bad rng and it decided to do 3 explosive attacks in a row, I'd die and lose any progress I made depending on when it decided to do this. I wish more enemies had harder combos though, outside of the explosive undodgeable unblockable attacks, really enjoyed the fights
I'm so glad this helped you! Thank you for your kind comment. Now that your in T3, if you need help figuring out a good combat build, I have a couple videos covering that. Wishing you the best.
The combo of the wolfspider is only a 4 hit combo. The third attack is just a faint before the bite from the left. You dont have to block the faint what makes the actual third bite way easier to block.
This is a tip for anyone who reads this, if you want to kill stink bugs, ladybugs, Bombardier beetles, and maybe Antlions etc. you should craft at least 8 Tier 1 Spike Clubs and just huck them at the insect, when the damage of all of the spike clubs add up, it’s does a lot of damage, especially to the Ladybugs bombardier beetles and Stinkbugs. For the Antlions you will need more.
Funny enough I find the spiders more on the easier side, normally always head on with wolf spiders, their high speed helps keep my momentum in a fight, but I struggle with soldier ants 😂, their leans and lunges seem to always throw me off than other lunges bugs have
Definitely try to avoid getting hit by the orb weavers web attack that roots you in place. I was playing woah mode with my friend and didn't realize that this web REALLY hurts
For the pit antlion, you can stand in its shadow to prevent burns. And It seems that if you are completely close to the antlion, The antlion can only hit you when using three hit combo, other attack modes seem to be unable to hit the player's hitbox.I can't confirm whether this is a stable bug or just an accident
this guy here talking about killing wolf spider with all this fancy gear my friend and i died a lot but we killed the damn thing with with pebble wepons and clover armor lol. 2 insect bows was our first high tier wepon.
Me and my best friend have a medium world together. Whenever he sees a wolf spider, regardless if it is normal or infected, he will yell "RAHHHHHH!" and chase it down. He puts his coaltana to work and always(sometimes) manages to come out alive. When he first started with the infected wolf spiders, I put on reliable friend because he always wanted to try again, albeit with no health.
@@That1Guy4Never I am getting slightly better. I have yet to play grounded since watching your detailed video(I did just finish it). I have a feeling that I will be at least somewhat improved fighting the bugs in the backyard. It probably doesn't help my situation that I usually only get 10 frames or so. 20 to 30 if I am really lucky. Sometimes as low as 4 or 5 FPS.
Yeah...that would make perfect blocking pretty tough. Might be best to go with a tanky build that utilizes a shield. That way you can mitigate dmg well, in spite of your circumstances. The Salt Morning Star and Toenail Scimatar got a beefy buff. They would be great options with a Fire Ant or Ladybird Shield.
@That1Guy4Never Sounds exactly like what I do. Level 9 rolly poly with ladybird shield. I have salt morning star, fresh rusty spear, coaltana, mint mace, and spicy staff. Also black ox hammer sour infused at level 9.

Bro thanks for the video but ive been playing so long that the broodmother wolf spider orb weaver black widow attacks are all the same to me and i just parry them so easily i mean my first black widow kill was with ladybug armour a tier three axe and a black ant sheild

Heyo! Several months after I made this video, the devs dramatically increased how much stun flying creatures take when you perfect block their attacks. This results in flying creatures being stunned much, much easier than before. I'm glad you're enjoying the video! Don't hesitate to comment again if you have more questions.
Hey I saw in your vid you saying you can’t block the firefly’s attack and Ik it’s 7 months later but I can perfect block them as well as the bombardier Beetle’s close tangle shotgun hit. Thanks for the info though
YW! Yeah, we've discussed those two moves quite a few times here in the comments. Turns out they can indeed be parried, but you will still have the debuff applied no matter what. My hands don't work so great, making it difficult to get the Parry times just right on some of the more difficult moves like these one. I appreciate you contributing though!
What seems to happen whenever A wolf spider, broodmother or Widow uses the 5 hit combo, is that the 4th attack either gets blocked easily, or it just completely missed me
Huge tip for easily cheesing ladybugs I watched a video of a guy who started a new game and killed one in 15 minutes with just clover armor and a pebble axe and shield. Just 3 hit combo and then block after. It's attacks are to slow to hit you during shield break stun duration. At worst you just block again instantly after recovering from it and you will take no damage. But it's just 3 hit combo, block, rinse and repeat until dead after learning this I'm able to solo them np.
The dumbest shit about Mosquitos is when they perform their sky diving charge attack, there's a chance that the attack would come from an angle, making you block meaningless. The animation of them flying up is still straight and parallel to your position, but then the charge for some reason would come from the side.
I have not even took down a ladybug yet, I just need to know how to handle a wolf spider as I think one attacked my base one night, I stayed in my base the attacker left, I went out my unfinished roof, and I saw one a bit away, and there are two living near my base, but not near enough to make my base unsafe unless they move around in which one may come by. I can take on one orb weaver jr, but I still don't know what is one the way to the hedge lab, so I don't know how cautious I should be.
So on the topic of the bombardier/bombers. You actually can both block and parry the shotgun. found this out as an accident while working off muscle memory the trick to it is right when it sprays you have to both block and walk forward this will negate most if not all damage, keep in mind the acid from the shotgun still comes out it just lands behind you because of the parry. honestly it may hit the shield and go under you but because of walking forward it doesnt get a chance to tick up damage. not sure tho and thats just a theory. with this information it might be possible to block the snipe with the same message. Im gonna test that and come back with the results. ( not 100% sure beacause i use the Compliance Badge almost all the time). Anyways thats just another helpful tip for bombers. anyways Im out Edit: So i have tested it you cannot block the snipe shot you just get hit and sent flying however I found out you can parry the firefly attack I am bewildered and beyond happy as I am way to lazy to carry around arrows at the moment Should specify tho you can parry the attack thus stunning the firefly but it doesnt block the debuff and unlike the bomber I dont think you can just walk forward to negate it
I find it weird that you showed the mantis weapon but you didn’t cover how to defeat it lol. Apologies tho if this was recorded before the update because I am pretty new to grounded and your videos have been so helpful….it’s not on your boss video either so will you be making the mantis boss video soon?
The Broodmother and Mantis are not part of the story. They are extra bosses that reward you with especially good gear. I didn't cover them in this video mainly because it would take me at least 20 minutes to cover each one. They are worth their own video. But, In all honesty, I probably will not make it. My boss guide was not very popular.
This was actually corrected in the 1.2 update. Previously, upgraded weapons that you went elemental as an upgrade path, would lose their original typing and become solely that element (ie spicy). Now, the weapon will properly have its dual typing (ie. Spicy & Slashing). That's for normal weapons that normally weren't an element by default. On the other hand, unique weapons that were already an element by default (ie coaltana), have always been the correct dual typing. So this fixed the issue with regular non-elemental weapons.
@@That1Guy4Never i see =) the explanation for some stuff is a bit wonky in game, so I was never sure =P what happens if your weapon has one type the enemy resists and one type it is weak to?

I never got that far, I'm afraid. I did cover the Wasp Queen in a separate video and all the story bosses in another. The Wasp queen is slightly different since the time of the video. She summons more. You'll take out the adds with pollen arrows and then resume attacking the boss until she hits around 25% health. At that point, she summons as fast as you can take them out, so you need to solely focus on the boss. It's a dps contest. You need to damage her more than her drones heal her for. Salt weapons are highly recommended.

Heck yeah, long form grounded content!!! Finally, videos over 20 minutes
Also a tip with flying bugs, when you parry their attack and they got stunned, as soon as they do the stunned animation (in the air) you can immediately hit towards them(in front of you) since their hitbox is already there for some reason saving you some little time and deal more damage while they're stunned
Great work! Thank you, sir.
My pleasure!
Very useful video! This Helped me prepare to tackle most of the games content! :) Thank you!
Not sure why you don't have 1.81 million subs. lol Great job, you got a like, sub, and notifications. You remind me of another RUclipsr, Tim Dodd. He makes extremely in depth vids as well, and they're "not done until they're done!"
Haha that definitely feels like me 😵💫😬! I'll have to check him out - always fun to get inspiration from other creators.
For wolf spiders, you can actually hit them with a fast attacking weopon once or twice on the last hit of their 5 hit combo
You can actually block the firefly's attack but you will still receive the slowed movement debuff. Also you can one shot them if you have a mid to highly upgraded rust spear and javelineer at phase 3 and huck the spear at it
Hey thx for that. Yes, it turns out you can parry that attack.
It's a little inconsistent but you can often one shot ants in the eye with an arrow.
bro this video is so good!
Appreciate it!
Great vid, thanks for the help!
You're welcome my friend
You’re amazing for this, tons and tons of work went in clearly. Appreciate ya!
Glad it was helpful!
I needed this. I've been testing fate with red ant armour and a mosquito needle.
Most of us have been there! 😆
We have been tidying up the wiki fixing some of those mistakes.
wait what? i never knew this!
that explains why the salt morning star was this good against wasp queen and mantis
@@Geckoreo this may be outdated
@@literatemax i was checking one of my main sources (some datamined information it was last updated at the wasp update but i could be wrong)and its still true
edit: double checked and it seems like its 1.2.2
Legends say there is a guy who parried two Wolf Spiders at once as they used 5-hit combo.
The ten-hit two-step of death.
Legend states this is how you unlock Apex Predator rank 2 🤔
You can actually block with the bows and I would recommend waiting for aerial bugs to hit you first to block them then shoot since reloading crossbows prevents blocking
Edit: I got to the bow block part my bad :3 great video too!
Thank you, this has really helped me defeat the black widow.
Just wanted to say good tip if nobody has, for ladybug red ant club everytime and throw it at her head. Try and aim so it bounces too you, if not just train the lady bug until you can grab it then throw again. Mass dmg and very quick to kill safer too. Same could work w poly.
1:51:22 I've wondered what the grass seeds are used for. Seeing the fire ant hill, I realized its use. Think breadcrumbs. ☺
That's some creative thinking! I like it.
Im pretty new to the game and i never knew the wolf spider was a big threat bc i was able to beat him was just clover armor and a pebblet axe
little disappointed that this didnt include bosses, but the black widow guide is very helpful, this video also taught me that playing with friends actually increases the health of bugs! I have over 300 Hours on this game and I somehow didnt even realise this! 😅
Bosses are a separate video ruclips.net/video/eb_A8h9RpJk/видео.html
This man is the GOAT!
One thing I did is craft a bunch of pebblet hammers to throw instead of spears because hammers stun and it helped me kill almost all the tier II bugs
This is awesome! tysm dude
Ty! Glad it helped.
This makes a very strong build and can beat just about every boss in the game with ease
well mother demon armor got changed and weaponless builds got nerfed
is there a better build or should i keep using the sour axe build (for PTB)
Well done, very professional! subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks to this I have Been able to kill first try in sucesion the Black ox the wolf the widow and the Lady bird thank you really much
So glad it helped you out
Wish I watched this before fighting the infected wolf spider lol.
About the fire fly I've been Able to parry its attack before it has a chance to stun it to the ground
I love this vid I watched it a while ago when I was tier 2 and I got ten times better and I thank you soo much and I'm in tier 3 now thank you.
Awesome video! Thank you so much!
Happy to help!
Funny enough I find the spiders more on the easier side, normally always head on with wolf spiders, their high speed helps keep my momentum in a fight, but I struggle with soldier ants 😂, their leans and lunges seem to always throw me off than other lunges bugs have
Incredible video dude. Keep it up. I shared
😙 much appreciated my friend.
Definitely try to avoid getting hit by the orb weavers web attack that roots you in place. I was playing woah mode with my friend and didn't realize that this web REALLY hurts
For the pit antlion, you can stand in its shadow to prevent burns. And It seems that if you are completely close to the antlion, The antlion can only hit you when using three hit combo, other attack modes seem to be unable to hit the player's hitbox.I can't confirm whether this is a stable bug or just an accident
best grounded youtuber
this guy here talking about killing wolf spider with all this fancy gear my friend and i died a lot but we killed the damn thing with with pebble wepons and clover armor lol.
Lmao that's awesome. 💯! Cherish these memories - this is why games hold so much nostalgia for us.
Are you getting better at handling the Wolf Spiders?
The third attack of the 5 hit combo from a wolf spider is a “fake attack” and you won’t take any damage
I would like to know about the weak points like how ants you can one shot them if you shoot them in the eye
Right before this video I just got finished watching a 10-hour video with only getting up to go to the toilet and get food and drinks I think I'll be fine
35:56 the Mint Mace does not deal Busting damage. None of the clubs deal Busting damage, but the Mint Mace used to back when it was called the Mint Mallet.
Only the three hammer tools deal busting damage. All clubs that don't have a candy element deal generic damage instead.
See the other comment. Thx for commenting.
Bro thanks for the video but ive been playing so long that the broodmother wolf spider orb weaver black widow attacks are all the same to me and i just parry them so easily i mean my first black widow kill was with ladybug armour a tier three axe and a black ant sheild
Currently doing a whoa mode playthrough, so this might be helpful
Appreciate the comment. I hope it helps you out. The late game creatures are especially unforgiving on whoa.
im not even in the half of the video, but i wanted to ask about mosquitos . im very new player and what i noticed is any time they do that dash attack and i perfect block it with shield they always get stunned o..o idk if im just lucky but thats what i saw happening ..
(loving the video so far!)
Heyo! Several months after I made this video, the devs dramatically increased how much stun flying creatures take when you perfect block their attacks.
This results in flying creatures being stunned much, much easier than before.
I'm glad you're enjoying the video! Don't hesitate to comment again if you have more questions.
@@That1Guy4Never oooh i see ! thank you for clarifying that to me c: im gonna finish the rest of the video as i progress through the game !
Once you get the Shield, fighting gets a lot easier👍
The dumbest shit about Mosquitos is when they perform their sky diving charge attack, there's a chance that the attack would come from an angle, making you block meaningless. The animation of them flying up is still straight and parallel to your position, but then the charge for some reason would come from the side.
the 3rd attack from the wolf spider's 5 hit combo is a fake out. no need to block that one
I can take on one orb weaver jr, but I still don't know what is one the way to the hedge lab, so I don't know how cautious I should be.
tbis game looks 🔥🔥
for the digging/resurfacing antlions, hold block and walk backward, it misses you almost every time
Your first wolf is always the hardest.
me using walls "wait... yall didn't use walls your first time?"
I know I'm a year late to the post but it still helped ALOT so I'm interacting lmao
Glad it helped you out! The video is timeless since the devs won't be changing the bugs attacks :)
Blade master definitely improved
I finally now how to beat that damn wolfspider
We need an update for when 1.4 is out. A revised compendium, if you will.
So many bugs are weak to fresh and chopping, look like a Fresh Insect Axe is very handy ^_^
Is a Wolf spider fan good for fighting a lady bug?Cause that's what i've been using and a shield cause then I can get more hits on them
A fan?
Anyways thats just another helpful tip for bombers. anyways Im out
Edit: So i have tested it you cannot block the snipe shot you just get hit and sent flying however I found out you can parry the firefly attack I am bewildered and beyond happy as I am way to lazy to carry around arrows at the moment
Should specify tho you can parry the attack thus stunning the firefly but it doesnt block the debuff and unlike the bomber I dont think you can just walk forward to negate it
So what do you do when you don't have all the mutations unlocked? This is a pefect case senario.
You go and work to unlock them
I find it weird that you showed the mantis weapon but you didn’t cover how to defeat it lol.
Tysm
does weapons like the mint mace or coaltana deal dual types of damage? for example spicy AND slashing for coaltana?
Depends on the %s. If 25% weak and 25% resistant = net 0.
28:00 me too mate. I think 😂😂
What scab os were you using when talking about the respawn at field station
What part of the video are you referencing, mate?
@@That1Guy4Never when you were talking about the new system with respawning directly from the closest field station. I really like the black and red look
If you're referring 2:51 , I'm not sure. I've looked through my OS multiple times and can't find an exact match. My guess is SCA.B Classic.
My videos are color enhanced. So saturation is boosted giving more vibrant colors. Could be altering that scene.
Do you know what s the best tier 3 weapon cause i really want to check them out but i don t know for which one to go first any ideea helps
Best is subjective. The fist build is the strongest in the game right now.
Some of my favorite weapons: Club of the Mother Demon, Mint Mace, Rusty Spear, and Toenail Scimitar.
Here is my build vid if you need some inspiration: ruclips.net/video/mE5ZjF0nIBM/видео.html
Thank you so much i already watched it but i will consider your preferences, keep the good content!
Bosses? Besides Broodmother, she’s so easy.
"Discharging an explosion of bioluminescence"
nice
😅😂 glad someone finally caught that
Good I just got the game on the winter sale.
Enjoy your time in the game! I have a starter guide as well if you need it.
