Good video Aaron! Can't wait to see the final result in a few weeks of time
Thanks Andy! Appreciate it brotha.
Haha love the dancing and wife’s comment from an otherwise serious looking guy. And agreed on the Edgeguard being terrible. My edge adjuster slowly creeps into a closed position when I want it fully open, and vice versa.
Lol, thanks brotha. Yeah I come off as serious; however, I am anything but, ha! I still use that spreader but it drives me nuts. One day I’ll upgrade.
Dude, I've watche'd your videos.
You know what you're doing. You're no amateur.
Wow, thanks man! Definitely just a hobby, but I love doing it. Thanks for the kind words! 🙌
Can't wait for for this to germinate so we can see those dances moves again, this time on the lawn. Well done sir. :)
😂😂😂, if I’m able to get it to germinate, I’ll have to sneak one in. Thanks Keith!
Honestly I think u are a serious man working with you yard obviously take a lot money and time nice yard BTW 👍👍👍
Ha, thank you! I love working on the yard 👍🏽
@@theperfectcutlawncare I smell that isn't a easy task on hot days but thanks for sharing process for dummys like me 🥵
Ha!! Yes, something you don’t want to do on a hot day. Glad it helps 👌
Well done man. Hopefully that turns out looking great 👍🏼
Thank you! We’ll see how it plays out. Looks like you’ve bounced back out there; you’re lawn is looking pretty.
@@theperfectcutlawncare it's definitely bouncing back from the heat really well. I'm not doing any usual fall time stuff this year other than pre emergent. It's kind of a nice break 😁
That’s a good idea, enjoy the fall, and cut some grass on those nice days. Hoping that’s where I’m at next year.
Dance moves rewarded with a like and a comment. I think you started a thing among lawn tubers.
Lol!!! Thanks brotha. We’ll see how that plays out; all I have left is the robot.
When he started dancing I paused the video and clicked subscribe.
Lol 😂 It’s hard to not look at a train wreck. Thanks brotha.
Lol…..:the wife checking out for the dance moves. Just completed my sand and seed project myself. Great video.
Nice, I’m sure it’ll work out great! I’ve been known to embarrass my wife on the dance floor. Thanks Ron!
Great video!
Thank you for watching!
@@theperfectcutlawncare learning a lot. I’m overseeding the same SSS blend in upstate NY. I have several other varieties I don’t want to overgrow before kbg germinates. Just picked up some PGR granular by Anderson’s. Btw just put my ezzdoo together today. Looking good thanks.
Sounds like you’re on the right track. That’ll be a good mix for cold weather, handles sub zero temps well. Also has great color, you’ll enjoy. Good luck, it’s back breaking but the end result is worth it!
Awesome video Aaron! just shared to my wall and nice moves dude, you must have gotten all the ladies back in the day 😂😂😂
Lol!!!! Thanks for sharing the video, George! Always giving back. Those moves got me my ten year high school reunion dance contest champion, but that’s about it, ha!!!
Excellent video, seriously well explained. Had KB sod installed after our pool was built. Had so many issues with sod worms / grubs and the 90+ heat this summer in NY. Need to renovate this fall. Trying to decide whether to overseed with KB or rye grass. Thoughts?
Thank you! Sorry to hear about those struggles. Now both are excellent for NY. However, I’d caution against overseeding with rye into bluegrass. It’s darker and you’ll end up with clumps of dark Rye that will hurt the uniformity of the bluegrass. This isn’t a theory either I’ve done it and regretted it for that reason. My preference is to maintain a monostand of one or the other and overseed in the fall with the same grass type.
@@theperfectcutlawncare thanks, how about over seeding with tall fescue? I generally keep my lawn around 2.5 - 3 inches. Might be a little too short for fescue, though really worried about the time KB takes to establish. My wife is driving me crazy about how the lawn has dead patches lol
@@jy6221 quality TTTF can be happy at 2.5 to 3 inches. Monostand will obviously look the most uniform, but a mix will be more resistant to disease, drought, temp etc. If you're going to overseed with a new grass type, just make sure you go agressive with a thatch rake or power rake to expose as much ground as possible and follow best practice for germination. That should help eliminate PRG or TTTF standing out much from the KBG. I prefer a nice, lush, healthy, usable lawn over an ornament lawn, so I don't mind if there isn't uniformity
Great channel! Is this possible if we don't cut our lawn so low? I plan to aerate and overseed in the fall this year but I usually cut around 2-2.5 inches. Should I scalp it before overseeding?
Hi, thank you! Yes before seeding I’d cut it as low as possible.
According to everything I have ever seen. Yes, cut low and bag and then dethatch for best results and you do not waste time and money.
You my friend ate the man for mentioning plant growth regulator awesome idea I love it. Why didn't I think of that. Cut super short as well prior?
Ha! Wish I could take credit. It took a week for those seeds to pop up and fortunately they aren’t being over shadowed by 5” tall blue grass, so I’m glad I did it. Thanks man!
Hi - I’m going to be performing a heavy aeration, would you recommend skipping the rolling step as I’ll be re compacting the soil?
Definitely would skip it. Smashing the cores in wouldn’t be ideal.
Where did you find the peat moss? Around here in Wisconsin, it’s in short supply & pricey.
I got mine from Menards in Illinois. Also got some from Ace Hardware, but was very expensive. Seems more expansive than last year by a big margin.
Could I do this to to my grass that is an existing tall fescue? I would like to add some kbg
Yes. It wouldn’t be a problem overseeding Fescue with Bluegrass. It’s going to get warm pretty quick so I’d get going soon; otherwise late August is a good time to do this.
I live in mass and have a mixture or Kentucky bluegrass but was just wondering if all Kentucky bluegrass can be cut down to under an inch
I can’t definitively answer that. I have about 9 different cultivars of bluegrass and they seem to all handle 3/4” just fine…originally from Andover, MA let’s go Celtics.
Question, I’ve never had to take care of a lawn before and just bought a house and the lawn is in pretty poor condition so I’m trying to grow some Kentucky bluegrass. I think there’s about 2-3 different kinds of grass already. I just put down fertilizer and then over seeded. Any advice?
You’ll get some patchy colors around your lawn when you start to mix and match. If it doesn’t look good for you come June I’d consider a complete renovation come late August
What was your setting on edge guard?
I had it at 3.5 and did a million passes, otherwise I end up with streaks, ha!
With all the different types of KGB, how do you come to a decision on which one to use?
I’ll look at some reports and look for ones with good color and disease resistance in the Midwest. Also I’ll talk to different folks about their experience with certain cultivars.
@@theperfectcutlawncare thanks and your yard looks amazing. Was looking into what to use to over-seed and I’ll star researching now.
Thank you! I’ll look at the National Turf Evaluation Program as a starting point to see what’s out there.
Thanks, I will start there!
Isn't it beneficial to pre-water before seeding..??
Can’t say I’ve ever heard that before. I’d rather the ground dry prior to rolling the seed in. Otherwise grass seed and other debris will stick to the roller. After everything is down then we can give a good watering.
Your lawn looks very good so with that said why are you going through this long process? I like overseeding but what you doing takes many hours. I do the dethatching and aeration then the seed and starter fertilizer then apply organic compost. Hopefully that is good enough?
Thank you. I pick up the cores because of the sand level process. When reel mowing having a flat surface feels a lot nicer than a bumpy one. Other wise sounds like we’re doing about the same thing. So in your case it is more than good enough.
how low would you recommend scalping using a rotary mower? 1-1/2"?
I’d go as low as you can go with out driving the blade into the ground. Once you seed and water the seed will germinate and new blades will grow out of the existing crowns and in a couple of weeks everything will look great.
Question. nice video and I understand and agree with all the steps. But, I have 2 1/4 acres of grass, 18 zones with 9 heads per zone on the irrigation system. Central Idaho. How DO I OVERSEED? No way to do all the steps you did, and if there was a way it would cost $19,000.00. What happens if I just simply broadcast 200 pounds of seed? No other steps, just broadcast 200 pounds of seed? Give it a try and see, or complete waste of 200 pounds of grass seed?????????
If you waited until Labor Day where you’ll have ideal temperatures, spread the seed and then top dressed with soil by renting an EcoLawn top dresser you’ll have decent results. You’ll do much better germination wise than just spreading seed and hoping for the best. You’d need a lot of soil to top dress two acres. Close to 20 tons.
Can you use the thatch to cover seed???
I wouldn’t. Dead grass material will smother a lot of new seedlings as it gets wet. Straw, peatmoss, or seeding blankets will get you the best results.
Doesn’t the plant growth regulator slow down the new germenation also?
Spray a week before seeding. It works exogenously. It will slow the existing plant, but not effect newly germinated seeds.
Any issues with how acidic peat moss is?
No, soil test Ph always comes back good.
gonna overseed with kgb % evora. im in northern ireland.have perenial rye atm . what do you thinks gonna hgappen?
100%
I’d probably try and use a plant growth regulator on the Rye before seeding. It’ll eventually establish. Bluegrass is more dominant and will overtake the rye after years.
cheers@@theperfectcutlawncare
how long should you apply the tnex before putting your seed down? should there be a gap between the 2?
Yes, I’d do 7-10 days before seeding.
@@theperfectcutlawncare I am planning in over seed for the weekend. I have my tnex showing up Tuesday (after tomorrow) if I put it down on Tuesday, mowed short on Saturday and top dress and seed on Sunday. Will I have any issues? Or should I skip the t nex in this case ?
I’d still put it down Tuesday. Sounds like a good plan.
@@theperfectcutlawncare okay so putting it down and putting seed down only 4 5 days later won't affect the germination of my seed ?
No, it’ll be ok 👍🏽
Hello. I am wanting to seed 100%KBG for thenfirst time this coming season. Seeding 100% KBG in Spring is absolutely not recommended ??
You can definitely do it with success. Improved cultivars will require a lot of water in the summer. Use mesotrione to seed, and high Phosphorus fertilizer to start.
@The Perfect Cut Thank you for your reply and advice! I am curious why improved cultivars require lots of water. ?
I was watching multiple youtubers who had seeded with KBG earlier. I see the challenges that I will face. I am a bit nervous, but also pumped up to try !
@The Perfect Cut I also was going to go with the same mix from Seed Super Store. I ended up getting a blend of Mazama, Bewitched, and Blue Magic (Blueberry was not available). I just dont have enough time and manpower to do a full reno (kill existing mixed grass of KBG, PRG, FF, TF.. Detchatch, core aerate, level with tons of soil/sand).. :((
instead, Sculping hard my lawn, topdress and seed would still work ?:/
Improved cultivars are bred under high maintenance programs and require that type of program to look good, where older cultivars are genetically adapted to survive harsh conditions but generally don’t look as nice. *source: fundamentals of turf management….in order to have germination you’ll need good seed and soil contact and needs to be kept moist continuously until germination. Avoiding a wash out is hard in spring, and getting glhelpful temps is also a challenge. It’s not easy but with good timing and patience wlyou can do it. It ALOT of work ha. I wish you luck!
@@theperfectcutlawncare Thank you :) !!
Wheres the cupholder for the machine?
In the shop where I spend most of my time fixing that thing.

😏🍺
How much peatmoss per 1k square feet? I have 3.5 acres to do...
I use about 1.5 large bags per thousand. So that would be a lot of bags. I would advise against using peatmoss on 3.5 acres.

Thanks, I will search for a bulk product that could help. I'm very concerned about seed to soil contact I may use a mild compost. Out west it's super hot and we lose irrigation end of September so it's now or never.
@@idahohops sorry, wish I could help. I think it would be hard to irrigate that size of property. Good luck, and hope the weather cooperates for you.
Dancing. Nice.
Growth regulation, new to me.
I like that.
Clean it up, baby.
Super seed store, Go time.
Oh yeah, that regulator does a lot of work for me. Thanks for watching!
brother man has a 3k+ swardman and a 30 spreader, come on bro
Go easy on me, I’ll get there one day. 😂
I wish I could hire you 😪
Ha! Sorry, wish I could help. Definitely makes a big improvement to the lawn. Cheers
I would wear a mask spreading that peat, I bet you were coughing after doing it.
No respiratory issues.
When kentucky bluegrass die is the root system underground still alive....you need some iron your neighbors yard is darker then yours
Dude the music in your video is way too loud. Have to turn it down in the music plays and turn it up when you're talkin
Sorry brother, must have not adjusted levels properly
@@theperfectcutlawncare its all good, your content was great, I wanted to hear everything you had to say but the audio......
@@steffen707- I’ll get it next time, and I appreciate the support👍🏽
Cool, I subscribed.
Whenever I see people mowing their lawn in flip flops I shudder. I too mowed in flip flops until one day I nipped my big toe. Plz wear some kind of hard toe shoe in the future. Better safe than sorry.
Yikes... you have that fancy mower and you're using an overpriced poorly functioning spreader???? Really???? Seriously though, why roll it before you apply the peat moss. If you put the seed down and then the peat moss then roll it you really get good contact between the soil and the moist peat moss. Just my 2 cents worth.
Volume sucks
My bad, I’ll get it next one.
Man, you talk way too much. For beginners, just teach them how to set the
spreader and then spread it. C.H.
