I miss Samson, Alabama. Moved up there with a buddy and we stayed with his aunt Doris, uncle Hollis and cousin April. Was only there for about a year, but 30yrs later I still miss it. The people there are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Anyone from that time remember two Florida boys getting in trouble with the law and running through the peanut mill/plant?
Florida, you are a hundred percent right. The people of Samson, in fact the people of south Alabama are the salt of the Earth itself. I don't recall the foot chase you mentioned but there have been many over the years. Why don't you consider a trip this way. It might prove fun..! You might even time it to coincide with Blackie's Gathering in the spring..! 🐻
I love going to Kaufman's, and make the drive over from Andalusia, now and then. As big as the place is, it always seems like they've got too much stuff for the space! Glad to still have them around, when so many military surplus stores aren't, anymore. Stay Safe!
It truly is an adventure every time you walk through the door..! Maybe we'll meet up sometime when we're both there..! 🐻 P.S. I'm glad to hear we're neighbors DoA..!
I got one of those arctic canteens when Blackie made the original video, and I got a brand new woobie.... Sweet!! Represent from lovely Petoskey, Michigan!!
Great video guys. I found Kaufman 's by accident one day ,several years ago. And now I go in there whenever I can. The ladies are extremely helpful. And Jennifer knows where everything is in their vast store and warehouse. Set some time aside and spend an hour or two inside , you're bound to find something you need. Stay safe out there.
I drive up from Florida every now and then to get some things. Never told anyone about my favorite off the beating path shopping spot. Now everyone knows. lol.
It's my favorite "off the beaten path shopping spot too" Hunter..! Since you are relatively close by you should consider coming to the next Gathering..! 🐻
@@baileybrunson42. Oh I’ll be back up soon. Usually it’s up to mom’s kitchen for a big breakfast and back down to the surplus. Wasn’t long ago I was up there. You guys had one heck of a storm rolling in. Tornado warnings were coming across the phone like crazy.
After a hardy breakfast at Mom's and a strenuous morning digging for priceless surplus treasures may I recommend Alabama Pecan Company next door on the right heading south.. their food is also outstanding..! 🐻
I love army stores I have since I was a kid that’s where my dad took us when we were in the Boy Scouts for our camping trips I’m gonna have to visit there soon I’m in north Georgia my wife has got family in Brewton Alabama directions from there would be helpful thanks for the video buddy
Thank you for watching Eric. Where in north Georgia are you? I have family in the Blairsville area. Brewton is west of us. According to Google maps it's roughly an hour and twenty six minutes from Brewton to Samson and a fairly straight shot. The last part of the trip (from Opp to Samson) will be on Al Hwy 52. When you get to the traffic light in Samson you'll turn right (south) on Al Hwy 27. Kaufman's will be a half mile(ish) on the right. It's located in an old shirt factory. 🐻
Hi Bear, missed Alabama except the tunnel in Mobile. Traeling with a woman i was married to for 20 years and divorced for 22 years, we are business partners. Dropped her off in Mountian View, Arkansas. Went to New Orleans because of weather then North thru Little Rock, stayed the night in little Rock. Mountin roads you have not driven before are best travelled in the light of day. i saw 3 ravines i could have been exploring. Made it to my old neighbor, Like here when both of us are on the the top of our hills.
Sounds like you had a good time Tim.. good for you..! Maybe next year you can join us for Blackie's Gathering.. it sure is an amazing few days..! Thank you for watching and commenting.. 🐻
I didn't realize we were neighbors User..! Yes, Kaufman's is awesome.. Blackie and I went just a couple of days ago. You should come down to the Geneva State Forest for the next event Blackie holds.. I would like to meet you..!
this video has me planning a trip to the surplus store in radford, va. i haven't been to a surplus store since the 80's and i'm looking forward to strolling around that store.
Glad you enjoyed it Michael..! I had a lot of fun looking through their stuff.. you always find a hidden gem around every corner..! Thank you for watching and God's continued blessings..! 🐻
Military surplus is always a great option. Bang for the buck it’s hard to beat. If you end up with excess it’s easy to sell at the flea market or trade around on. 👍
Thank you Bear and Blackie. I could easily spend a week in that store, too bad it's so far from me. I like that military combat tent and will call them about it.
That store steals the show, it's like you guys are but guests here. I'd say it's all at the same time a Military surplus / Antiques / Museum / Flea Market warehouse. I'd like to see a simple straight walk through from front to the back and one from one side to the other just to understand how big that place is.
Well Flash, it was a shirt factory in another life. If I were to guess (standing at the entrance) it's probably 100'x 300'.. lots and lots of floorspace to explore..! 🐻
I'm just up the road from you in Elba.. glad to know we're neighbors..! Hope to see you in there soon.. you should also think about coming to Blackie's Gatherings in the Geneva State Forest..! 🐻
Nothing really on the teardrop Steve but I am putting together some ideas for camp cooking. Please try to get to the Gathering next year.. you'll have a great time and might even be able to get to Kaufman's..! 🐻
I have been wanting to visit Kaufman's for a long while now.. I'm 4 hours south of there in Central Florida and they have pretty much shut down all the surplus stores around here..
Wow that gun case is just right for scabs pocket knivesmy step son had a maroat 3 day assuault from 7 to 12 amd still in his closet mam id be a kid in a penny canndy store lol
I have a shelter half myself (and use it) Sam.. those shelter halves are excellent (if a bit heavy). I encourage everyone to do what fits their needs best whether they prefer old school or modern..! Thank you for watching and for commenting..! 🐻
Useless for those of us in Canada who can't call long distance. No reason why they can't have an email or website in 2024. Even our much smaller local surplus store has FB and a website. You can't put a one-off on a site, but you can certainly post a FB post when you get a new shipment of an item in.

Alabama native here from down the road in Brewton. My brother in law lives in Mountain View. It is so beautiful up in the Ozarks!
I live north of Opp. I've been by there many times when I was driving a truck but never got a chance to stop. I WILL BE GOING. Thanks. Good video.

Hi Bear and Blackie, lot's of great stuff there at Kaufman's. Can't wait to start ordering some surplus gear from them. 👍🏻👍🏻
It truly is "candyland" Jeff.. almost anything someone would want is there.. give them a call..! 🐻

I may have to make the journey down sometime after I'm done wit my house!!
Great idea Thinker.. tell the ladies that Blackie and I sent you.. they will be glad to assist..! 🐻

Looks like a fun place!
It definitely is Briar..! 🐻
I’m a lover of cast iron too. Are you planning any videos on your Tear Drop camp or your cooking? Hope I can make next year. Steve from Kansas.

Do they sell by mail order
That tent is light years beyond the shelter halves... I hated those "shelter halves"...
JWG, I agree.. it really is "high speed, low drag" compared to the shelter halves..
I have my 1952 shelter half, worth the extra weight, in my opinion ❤

Everything a guy could need and George Strait to boot!!
Absolutely everything one could want..! 🐻
I have yet to see US military items in an Army Surplus Store.
Come visit Kaufman's Loboxx.. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised..! 🐻
You have GOT to turn that radio off when you're live
I understand Seamus.. none of us even noticed it while we were there.. next time we'll pay closer attention to it. 🐻
I coundt go to a place like that i would walk out broke
I know what you mean Brendan.. I face that reality a lot.. 🤣🐻
Just a hint turn the radio off
Agreed.. unfortunately it's the store intercom and out of my control.. 🐻
do they sell genuine Wehrmacht stuff too?
They do have some "modern" German surplus items but I haven't seen any antique German stuff.. 🐻
