Most of us are familiar with false teachings that are derived from taking a part of one verse out of context and then adding another part from another scripture taken out of context and then another until they have stitched together a mutilated Frankenstein monster doctrine. The "end times Great Tribulation" doctrine is the poster child for that process. After many hours, adding up to many days, of analyzing Mathew chapter 24 I am about 80% certain that verse 3 has been corrupted by changing the last two phrases. τῆς σῆς παρουσίας (that is of your presence,) καὶ τῆς συντελείας (and the completion) τοῦ αἰῶνος (of this age?) Greek NT: Stephanus Textus Receptus 1550 ΚΑΤΑ ΜΑΤΘΑΙΟΝ 24 (By Matthew 24) 3 Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ (Was sitting on top of he was) ἐπὶ τοῦ Ὄρους τῶν Ἐλαιῶν (upon the Mount of the Olives) προσῆλθον αὐτῷ (approached him) οἱ μαθηταὶ κατ' (the disciples and) ἰδίαν λέγοντες Εἰπὲ ἡμῖν (privately saying, Tell us) πότε ταῦτα ἔσται (when these things will be?) καὶ τί τὸ σημεῖον (And what is the sign) τῆς σῆς παρουσίας (that is of your presence,) καὶ τῆς συντελείας (and the completion) τοῦ αἰῶνος (of this age?)
