Lloyd Mack No it's not an ad hominem, that makes no fucking sense. It's not attacking the speaker to label something a "conspiracy theory." A conspiracy theory is defined as an "alternative" theory explaining an event based on framed and hand picked evidence with little to no basis in reality. 9/11 truth movement is a conspiracy theory. It's no coincidence that the average conspiracy theorist believes in multiple conspiracy theories... it reflects a lack of understanding logic, evidence, and rationale

Meaning the person has no real rebuttal to the charges or issues raised, so they dismiss the person as a "Conspiracy nut" or something of that nature. Regardless of the actual meaning, thats what it becomes in the broader conversation.

TheDalinkwent Though I wouldn't call "Conspiracy nut" the proper way with handling a conspiracy theorist because it is ad hominem, the fact is a smart person shouldn't waste their time addressing conspiracy theories that have been readily dismissed by academics due to the lack of substantiated evidence.

If you listened to what Killer Mike has to say about the prison system and non violent drug offenders being jailed for no particular reason, i strongly (!!) recommend you to listen to System of a Down's "Prison Song" because it covers the exact same topic. And the sad part about it is, that everything Mike, EL-P are saying is true.

El-P had a good point. It's science fiction only because they haven't made it yet. In fact, the widely accepted term for what they used to call "sci-fi" is SPECULATIVE fiction, meaning, it speculates on the future of technology and science and how far these fields can (and usually do) go...

This is something that happens when people are afraid, they mark you down as crazy so that they don't have to listen to what you say, One of my favorite quotes is from Dave Chappelle he said "The worst thing to call somebody is crazy, it's dismissive, 'I don't understand this person, so they're crazy' .These people are not crazy, they're strong people. Maybe their environment is a little sick" (speaking of people who have been able to achieve nationwide celebrity status, only to be called insane or crazy) The minute someone in the public eye starts talking about a truth or topic that scares you, we label them crazy so that we can sleep easy at night.

The horrible thing is because of my age (18) and how much of this shit gets publicised (next to none) I don't know about a lot of this stuff and i feel really uneducated on corruption and cover-ups in the western world. I'm just glad I have enough common sense to see past media and society and that we have people like El-p and Mike opening eyes when it needs doing more than ever. The worlds on overdrive and until more of us realise it'll stay that way

2 types of conspiracy theories I think. 1 - stupid shit about ghosts, faking the moon landing etc. 2 - closed room decisions about free-trade deals, covering up atrocities etc.

That's because from what you have commented i am lead to believe that you only have a part of the story. You may be right that what i said may seem patronizing but thats your decision. You may understand how an apple tastes but to understand how an apple comes to the edge of a tree branch is a completely different story with many intricate steps.The majority of the public is blind and ignorant. And since most of what we are saying is speculation, we have to keep an open mind, and to keep searching. However it is always great to see someone else searching.
