Fauna 17: [The way to get onto the quantum moon is not to use the ship's scout launcher to take a picture of the moon and then land. It's to try to get the ship close enough to the moon, unbuckle and take a picture with the scout, hope the ship falls slowly into the moon, and then hope I don't die from the unbuckled crash landing.]

We knew that from the start, we experienced that very painfully with the 1%. Only now has she realised this, Man I Love Fauna
Funny how in the early parts of the playthrough she didn't realize she had a scout launcher on her person so used only the ship's but now it's basically the opposite.
She tried actually but it hit moon and disappeared. I don't know why in that case photo disappears too, shouldn't be a thing
It doesn't disappear unless you try to take a picture once the scout is already in the moon's atmosphere and you're not. Snap one while its in frame and just dont take another. @@EV-zc9gv
I think she started using her suit's launcher to land on the quantum moon many episodes ago. She seemed afraid that the moon would disappear beneath her when she left the cockpit if she took the photo with the ship's camera, so she uses the suit's because she can keep it in the HUD until she sets foot upon the surface.
@@EV-zc9gv Because when the scout falls into the quantum moon, it becomes quantum, meaning you're taking a picture from 6 different quantum scouts simultaneously.
scout disappearing is not a problem. Why already made picture gone too?

Her barely surviving crashing on the Quantum Moon once really wrecked the back half of this session.
Hypothesis: Fauna's gamer knowledge must be quantum. When we reach the end of an episode, we stop observing. When we start up the next episode, new gamer knowledge appears, but other knowledge disappears without a trace. The only oddity is that, no matter what episode we're on, the white hole station remains invisible in her mind. More research must be done on this phenomena!
Hypothesis: The White Hole Station was removed from quantum knowledge upon its destruction in a previous cycle. Now it remains destroyed in all subsequent episodes. Imagine what other potential finds have been lost to entropy!
The White Hole Station is the 6th piece of Quantum Knowledge. It can't be reached normally, only by a convoluted route involving solving every other mystery in the game first.

The White Hole Station can only be perceived when the Shrine is on Fauna's North Pole.

It's honestly impressive how she completely forgot that she just landed normally on the quantum moon with her ship the first time

One of the previous times she couldn't get a good photo with the ship's camera. So she started using hand held mode.
And the next time she literally rawdogged the moon by landing on it without a ship and surviving, which is even more impressive.
Fauna's statement that every puzzle in OW has an elegant solution, and that if you find yourself brute-forcing it you're either missing or forgetting something, continues to stay relevant.
I think understand. She's constantly going on about how scared she is, the anxiety is clouding her brain and making her forget stuff she learned

Watching Fauna manage to crack the secret to getting into the Tower of Quantum Knowledge and the Lakebed Cave back to back only to completely forget that her ship does in fact have a camera is the kind of wonderful torture I've come to expect from this series. Bless this Kirin.

That teleport INTO your ship was amazing, those "landings" on the quantum moon were pretty amazing too
If I recall correctly, the teleport into ship thing is a fix for the opposite bug, in which you could teleport out of your ship when crossing the black hole. Teleporting into it is also surprising, but less confusing.
Fauna needs 2 more days of not playing this game to land on the moon properly

We just saw one of the six possible Fauna entanglements. Some Faunas crash, others land swiftly, one has already found the north pole; we'll see the last one soon!

This has to be my favorite episode so far. Two major breakthroughs followed by a comedy act trying to land on the moon
It's only natural that with so much progression in one episode Fauna immediately finds a way to halt all of it in the funniest way possible. The Law of Equivalent Fauna Gaming in action once again

I think this episode once again confirms that Fauna's greatest enemy is not high-level concepts or difficult puzzles, but basic controls.

That being minutes after “Is this photo I took with my ship good enough?”
I think she meant that doing so wouldn't do the trick, not that it was impossible to take a photo at all. In a previous episode she tried to take a photo of the moon with her ship but couldn't get a good one because of the scout's curved trajectory.
@@TonkarzOfSolSystem She couldn't get a good one because she forgot that she can just not launch the scout, not because of the scout's curved trajectory.
@@TheTsuyuki If you can't get a good shot when the scout is halfway between you and the moon, you're not going to get one without launching it.

Huge progress today! It is a sad day for Ship Scout Launcher photo ability enjoyers though as it has plumeted to the 2nd most ignored feature of the game (beaten only by the White Hole Station).
Thanks again for sharing Fauna, this has been a lot of fun. It's so satisfying watching you figure this out all on your own. As a former Outer Wilds player, I can now only relive these moments vicariously through others - so thank you!
The game introduces the concept of a 'race against time' to solve the game's mystery, but the key to solving two of it's biggest puzzles requires the ability to sit still and wait. That's pretty devious of the devs, lol
Yeah, I had to look up how to access the tower of quantum knowledge on my playthrough, and that was the only thing I couldn't solve in the game. I kind of regret having to look a puzzle up, but I legitimately would never have solved it on my own.
Thanks for today's OW ep You made a ton of progress today, you even remembered you have feet on the QM, the dev was in chat and said that part usually takes people a long time to figure out, so good job! Now if past Fauna could also recall that the ship has a probe for pictures that'd be great

Last episode she realized that pieces of Brittle Hollow are falling through the black hole. The location in this thumbnail is the Tower of Quantum Knowledge, so I'm guessing she figured out how to get up there.
Holy mother (nature) of progress. Yeah, I feel like with puzzle games the best thing to do when you're not making any headway is to just step away for a while and come back to it. It's like your brain subconsciously works on the problem while you're away so when you just give yourself a reset and break out of your rut in thinking you can solve problems really fast.

huuuge breakthrough indeed! also huuuge break-bones as well as she slammed full speed onto hard surfaces with her body. It's crazy how smooth everything is once it "clicks", and makes all the brute force she in the previous episodes even funnier.

Balance in all things. Great progress and learning of knowledge must be accompanied by Fauna somehow not remembering that she can take pictures while buckled in. Also, the sun death in this episode might be the most perfect encapsulation of the whole playthrough. Like, how?

This is truly a breakthrough, for multiple issues that Fauna has been grappling with, which is awesome by itself, but the fact that it now opens the door to the Quantum moon, is even more exciting.

That "muuuwn" pronounciation sounded like past Fauna was recently practicing some British accents doesn't it? And man that title wasn't lying at all was it? Got trough those quantum shard puzzles so crazy fast
One of the most charming parts of this entire series has been discovering Fauna’s pronunciation of the word “moon”. Just delightful.
That was lost on me, since English is not my main language and a lot of my exposure to English is with people either with Latin American or European accent.

Patience was the solution, and you figured it out! Both of the remaining quantum rules! Except you forgot the first rule you learned about taking photos, WITH YOUR SHIP, which you did right the very first time you tried many episodes ago! Maybe the fourth rule should be remembering your past
This episode contained a breakthrough but it also contained a lot of breaking other things, too. Like bones!
The upside to watching these in the morning with my coffee is that now every time Faunas landings are "too hot too hot too hot" I can immediately go listen to uptown funk to prevent it from getting stuck in my head for the whole day

Great episode there with our lovely kirin in gaming mode, being able to figure out two big things that kept her in fail for so long. And then it was really funny to see how dramaticaly the death counter increased here. In addition, it's the first time for all playthrough I saw so far that I saw somebody to be crushed by his own ship.😂
One has to wonder if Fauna is intentionally stretching the ending out, these cliffhangers are killer I do appreciate having a daily dose of scared space kirin

Today's on Fauna Fights Off Her Insomina, she finally figures out a way to get into the Tower of Quantum Knowledge! ! She acquired the much elusive and desired lore that was within! Not only that, but she finally figured out the mystery of the Lakeside Bed! Things are looking up for her... or were. Seems like the Quantum Moon is giving her some trouble, but she's so, so close into figuring it all out! Will she be able to find out the secrets of getting to the north pole? Find out next time! Fauna has true Quantum Knowledge, she is only able to remember 1 game mechanic at a given moment and will immediately forget it upon observing or learning something else.
I don't think I have ever heard someone who wanted to go to The North Pole this bad LOL. Well, Santa does live there after-all.
