Watching this in 2022. My second unit is arriving later today (after I sold my original in the early 2000s). This guy is more 80s than I thought you could be in the 90s. 😆 Great video though. Love it.
Boy good thing I know how to double-click
Use it wisely young padawan
23:11 LOL
brilliant.
wait til you hear about the triple-click
This is the best tutorial I've seen for the 1080. Thanks so much! Great work.
Although the video looks dated, it is still very useful today! For happy puppies like me who just got his hands on one. Thanks for the upload!
Brilliant tutorials,i have the JV-1080, great bit of kit but thanks to your video its now awesome. its now being used to its full potential. Thanks Daniel.
Thanks for uploading this. Got a JV 2080 a while ago and this will definitely help.
Hey Daniel Conroy, thanks so much for uploading this.
I've had a JV-1080 for years and now I can really start to make good use of it beyond the standard sounds.
I'm so glad you put this up, I've just gotten started with mine and have just been knackering about with the standard sounds (which are amazing by the way) but I feel like this is the only true way to use this thing to its full potential! Thank you hugely!
My JV1080 arrived yesterday and this video is a God send, thanks!
Brilliant thanks. I've never understood how to do most of this. I have one since 1997 and still love the sounds it makes.
I'm just getting a JV1080 tomorrow, so I'm really glad to find this. Gotta love those demo songs(!)...
Thank you a lot! It is a very useful video for me, it helps me to discover new possibilities in my JV!
I will send the same message, thank you. I bought this module few hours ago. I had a Roland XP50 and I still remember those sounds. I bought it for fun and just to save him from dust and destraction but now I will connect it and play with him. Thanks once more.
Thank you for uploading this.
Thanks for uploading this. Extremely helpful, double clicking and all :)
Thx for uploading this video ! This Rompler is really my madeleine de Proust !
I think this is my favorite RUclips comment of all time.
I enjoyed this WAY too much
Thanks so much very helpful .
Great job!
Thank you
Thank You - Thank You - Thank You!!!! wish I had this in 1995 - Al GM
So I have the latest versions of Pro tools, Cubase, ableton live, Eastwest VST, Roland cloud etc, etc... and I've still just bought a Roland TB03, TR09, TR08 and now I've just bought a JV1080 off ebay. Can't beat Roland hardware!
Obrigado pelo material😊
V.good explanation of the features, much better that sifting through a boring manual..
Great video - I've finally got a 2080 and your video was amazingly useful.. and I thought a DV7 was hard to program.. Thanks!
Really cool presentation and presenter.
Is it weird that this is easier to use and understand than the Roland Cloud plugin version of the JV-1080?
I never grew up with the JV1080 (it was before my time) but I just got one. Before that, I had the plugin...
Thank you for uploading this Daniel!
Bro thank you.
Thanks ❤
You save my life😁😁🙏
Best demo on RUclips. thank you for uploading. Which should I get, what is better, this or the JV20/80?.
Thanks!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What a treasure
9:30...Holy cow man you’re gonna break that encoder!
I would have loved this back in the day. Really couldn’t get my head around this synth and didn’t use it to its potential
Thank you - this is great! It would be super if you could list the sections and the times, so people can jump to the section of interest. Cheers!
I double that request
I've now added the sections and time into the description
Daniel Conroy THANK YOU!
Nice 90s vest
Performance mode - Chapter Nine @ 48.37 minutes
1080 engine is much much more deeper than this :)) I have one for about 6 years and I'm still learning new possibilities :D
Terrible interface though.
I like it!
Thank You Tim Walter for this super training video representation!! Where i can order Expansion Board?? Thank You again!!
kalman gyorgy majority are still on Ebay. Some for cheap some more rare ones fetch a reasonable price.
Hi- im not sure if someone can help me with this. I am in the Rhythm mode and have my midi controller at channel 10 but no sound is coming out. The Midi Message light is blinking when i hit notes and the drum sounds change when i hit keys. I am going through the Mix outputs into a mixer
I'm hoping someone will read this and help me out. I used the JV1080 for my live act back in the 90's for backing tracks. I played guitar and wrote sequences for bass drums and keyboard parts to play along with. It was great for getting a full band sound. But after not using it or playing for 15 years or so, I've gotten back into it. I have 3 of these units. But only one unit still has my custom performance data I created so I can have keyboard parts playing on midi Channels 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,15,16 coming out in stereo from Mix outputs L and R. Then I used of course midi channel 10 for all my drums and they were routed in stereo out of output 1 L and R. I had midi channel 2 for my bass sounds panned to the left coming out of output 2 L and a click sound panned right coming out of output 2 R. This way I could have control on my mixer for overall levels to EQ. Basses EQ'd on it's own mixer channel, the drums were able to be EQ'd separately, and the other sounds such as keys, pianos, horns, organs etc. were EQ'd separately as well. And a click only in my monitor. It made for great control in a live setting. So in the 15 years I've forgotten how I created all these numerous parameters in my performance setting. I figured I could easily do a data dump from the one unit that works for my backing track into my old cakewalk sequencer and then dump the data into the other 2 units so I can have backup units. But I can't seem to make that work. I did a dump on my sequencer and I see the sysex but I can't remember how to get it into the other units. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You should be able to use a VST called CTRLR with the JV-XP panel and save all the patch, performance and scale data from the main unit as a single .syx file, and then connect the other JV-1080s and send the same syx file to those. I know my way around my 1080 (and my 990 too) pretty well, but for editing, that panel is great and as it’s a VST - you can do everything in your DAW (including automation if you like). Hope this helps.
Pro tip: holding the scroll wheel down while scrolling makes you scroll 10 times faster
Does anyone know how this works with the octapad? I just got this from a guy on the street!
does he explain how to make different patches go to different outputs?
I didn't knew about the value double click ...lol
Can't access presets only what's on my sound card? When I dial in presets there's no volume?
hello, is there something that detailed on plug in?? I fail to find a good tutorial on roland cloud plug in, and this very hard to read💔.. although info wise is very cool
Nice tuto!! as curiosity would have the best of me: Was this part of a college dissertation project? ♫♪♫♪
Hi! Do you know how to change the tempo of presets? Specifically the flying waltz :)
1:20:29
Yes, your Plants vs Zombies soundtrack had sounds from this beast.
(actually the Edirol Orchestra, but Roland had owned Edirol by then)
Amazing spot! Loved that game on PC.
I have just bought a JV2080 and I just can’t find out how to add decay, attack, release to a tone (ADSR)
Can anybody help?
They named the envelope, T1,L1,T2,L2,T3,L3,T4,L4...
Gregorio Trejo really terrible naming convention.
Any chance of having the one for the JV2080?
hear hear!
I can't hear anything when I'm in Patch play (I am getting midi signal from keyboard), but I can hear when I'm in performance mode - do have any suggestions?
are the tone lights on? You can turn off the 4 waveforms which results in no output
I have similar experience. Frustrating.
@@LiveArtPresentsif your experience is like mine, it’s usually it’s something simple like the TVF is set to LPF with a cutoff of 0 = no sound. No idea why or how it happens, but it does. Even on stock presets. Parameter and TVF and see if changing the filter from LPF to OFF or PKG does the trick.
Did that say 'Blade Racer' patch on USER:019? lol
Where is the part on SYSex?
is there something like this but for the Roland JV 2080?
?
@@moviduks ?
@@grunntalll what u didnt understand?
how to configure the jv1080 for receive sysex files from PC?
I'M GETTING ONE NEXT MONTH!
Oh boy, what does the power button do?
As we have seen the JV 1080 is turned off at the moment and so if I play the keyboard it doesn't make any sounds. Now what we want to do is turn on the unit so that it will make sound. If you look on the front of the panel you will see a button which conveniently has 'power' written on it. As it says in the manual this is the button which switches on the power when the unit is off, however, if the unit is on it also switches off the power as we will see later....
... [20 minutes later] as you see here when we press the power button the unit powers on and the display lights up showing us that the JV 1080 is operating ....
this rompler is my wife

It’s no wonder why most people just used the presets as is. Programming/editing is too tedious/complicated.
As a product designer (UI/UX) of 19+ years.. the fact you need a tutorial for a primary action is ridiculous
