Thanks for checking out this short update video guys! If you're in for something longer format check out the travel adventure with Jen I just put up on the second channel here: ruclips.net/video/qPAQo2XYnBA/видео.html
It's a trip we took in October 2021 so pre-Gus
Thanks!
Check out the longer video good one , keep them comeing Chris
Some of your little tricks of the trade (melting a spot for an extra piece, etc etc etc) are invaluable to people like us. I bet you could make a killer video with all your favorite tricks.
Bro... Our A.M.C'S await! Love your channel. 🇨🇦
Good morning Chris and Jen. I will be back to watch all of this later. Glad that you're feeling better Chris. Happy Saturday everybody! ☀
Chris, you're a wizard... you're too talented to be working for someone else, glad you're a free agent now. Love the "will it run" vids!
Thanks for the video Chris, Good to hear you are feeling better. I very much respect your talent and am always thrilled you show the small details like cleaning up the mess that happens working on older vehicles. Good to know the extra personal stuff is on the second channel. I wouldn't ever suggest to someone how to run their own channel but am pleased you made that choice.
Thanks for checking out the video man! And yet it just seems like keeping the stuff that's way off topic or less exciting to the second channel.
Great to see the Javelin rolling again. Great job!
The utility bed on the ram would be sweet espeschally if the camper could still fit. Of course you have the ambulance so you don’t really need that set up. That was a setup i wanted when i had a cummins dually because of all the extra storage for camping and adventure gear.
I would love to see some more of the side work that you do. I think some others would too.
just looked on amazon at the ken tool lug nut remover. around $100 and up
Good thing you have lock nuts on those Creagar S/S ⚡️
I look forward daily to seeing if you have added anything! I always ask myself "what would Chris do" when I problem solve anything mechanical. Love the channel and keep up with the AMAZING content.
Thanks so much for staying tuned Chad!
Looks like cooper tires were put together pretty good .
Indeed!
Bias belted tires hold up to 50 years of neglect about 50 times better than any radial.
Dude its too bad you bring this thing to fort drum you could've stopped by and seen me otw LOL. Pretty gnarly that those tires held some air. Guess you never know till you try. You even washed it for him too!!! You're a hell of a guy Chris!!! 👍😁 I had a similar feeling when I was turning wrenches at the stealerships and indie shops. No sense of making them richer off my talent. Especially when you have enough customers that are loyal that'll follow you wherever you end up going. You made the right call brother!
Congratulations on doing RUclips full time I’m wishing you much success with this
That tire at 2:18 seconds in the video the tire sparked once it was aired up! Never seen that before
Chris, hope you can secure some land to build a big ass shop, would love to see how you would organize all your tools, that would be a hour long after edit i’m sure, you can definitely use that service body to do rescues in!!!
Good to see you Fella
congrats on striking out all on your own!! crossing my fingers for ya!
I can't believe all 4 tires Aired up
Hope your well now. Love the videos 🍻🏆
👍👌👏 2) Unfortunately too less cute Gus 💚 content in this video. 😁 ;-) Now I will check out the video you mentioned.
Best regards luck and health to all of you.
I wasnt aware of these cars... but after a look online, they look pretty cool!
Looking forward to the updates on the ex-ambulance and what your plans are for this or flippin it for another truck.
Try and make a video out where the giant trees are. That would be neat.
Just wondering if you noticed the drum hold down bolts, and that is all you had to remove to get the drums off instead of removing the hub assy.
All your vids are cool feel free to record all the gigs
Those AMC hubs cut the splines in the axle when they put them on, it's a terrible design, really easy to strip out, but you can get a one piece axle kit for them.
That one piece is the preferred set up for racing but expensive and not necessary for ordinary use. If you are an AMC guy, did you drop your jaw when he used the puller instead of taking out the screw that held the drum to the hub?
I don't know how much more you can take on, but I'd love to see you flipping some stuff. Even if it's just rough cut, single camera placement kind of stuff to make the editing easier.
Great video chris
Thanks man
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow It's crazy you were in Oak Grove, Missouri. I lv40 minutes from there. Played a lot of arcade games in that Petro 70 truck stop you drove past. Maybe if you come back th through this way I can show you around Lake Ozarks here. Very cool scenery and camping. Several rivers and Lakes. Safe Travel's ✌✌
Hola saludos desde CDMX de 🇲🇽👍🤗
My pops had one same rims n it had the 390 n it i was a lil shit then i just remember getting planted n the seat from power of pops punching it WFO N Hang on
I’d be interested in watching some “flipping” videos
Very cool 😎
Great video.
Hi love the vids !
I am prepared to off a half a pack of hot dogs for this piece.
What up Chris
Hey
Can’t believe the tires took air.
The wonders of bias plly t i r e s.
Couldn’t believe they HELD air
Yeah you got to be careful for that even if they do hold air the trade can fly off on those old dry rotted tires I had one that flung the whole tread off I still had air I was riding on the wires though
@@johnsheetz6639 I threw rubber on my approximately 1989 Ford 3/4 ton two wheel drive. Glad I had real truck tires on it. We slowed it down from highway speeds to about 40 miles an hour. Got it off the road hello ways down and let the spare on it. Went down the road 10 MI again at interstate speeds. Through the rubber off the spare that we had just put on there. Now that tire was the factory original spare for that truck I am reasonably sure. About then I think my boy was 14 or so and he said Dad what else can happen.? I said please never ask that question cuz it'll happen. Let me down road at 40 miles an hour on the casings and when I say Casey not talking about sleeper dude 88. I like his channel as well. But I'm talking you can see the chords cuz that's all that was left. What happened the other Tire I'm back through the casing sorry to try it off and. I end up driving about 60 miles pulled into little town decent tire shop. The guy came out and looked at my truck went back in got every employee had five or six of them I believe pointed out at my truck and asked him what you think you needs? I was glad they all said tires. Even today many many years later I still got that truck with those new tires for my guy shop at the truck just sits in the barn. But I was a Good Samaritan went back and picked up my tread each time and put it in the back of my flatbed. Hell this is getting too long for a reply. I was just going to attach to the bumper of a push truck I've got on the farm. I did ask the owner of the tire shop if you could recap my tires and put the tread back on. I did it was such a straight face he just shook his head and we both have good laugh we're still friends this day. All three of those tires had 90% rubber and I guess that's the goal to say you just never know and they were not a Chinese knockoff Tire matter fact they're pretty expensive common brand and you don't buy them at a we sell everything department store.
Those are coopers great tires even if they are bias ply !
Possibly the best looking car AMC designed. The marlin might be better looking (need to see them side by side to make that call) but it was a left over Rambler that AMC kept building.
Congrats and good luck on the full time youtube! That’s the dream but damn it has to be a scary step. It helps when your other half supports you
Definitely sharp looking! And thanks man! Yeah leaving the day job all together was definitely a tough move but glad I did. I do still miss working with fellow mechanics though
YEEHAH IT"S NNKH TIME!
Very satisfying watching a break job being done on these old vehicles!
I owned one of these from 1968 to 1979. It was an SST with the "Go Package." 390 C.I.D. Peppy motor and very nimble suspension. I made many mods to the motor eventually running high tens to low elevens in the quarter.
That model of Javelin is one of the best looking cars ever made. That one needs "a bit" of work though, love these kinds of projects. Cheers from Utah
Glad Javelin going to good home.
Always trilled to see good US made tools that you're making sure to mention in your videos!!🇺🇲
Hey Chris ! The lovely Jen, the super cute Gussie, and your knowledge, talent and know how, is a winning combination ! I am sure you will be very happy and successful as a full time you tuber. Never miss one of your vids. Cheers from Perth, Western Australia.
You want to see something bad ass . Look up a 70 AMX that by far is one of the most bad ass AMX's they ever made an ex friend had a 70 lime green 401 with a four speed son of a bitch that car was sick .I have seen another one. He didnt take very good care of it used it for a grocery beaker / bar hop car I wish I had that car
Take us on all your adventures! We don’t care if the story is boring 😊
I just wanted to hear your say " oh yes! You will behave" while using the big sledgehammer lol.
It's in rough shape, it would be a lot of work to restore. It's a shame someone let it get that bad. Glad you're feeling better Chris
I bet fritzie can fab it back...
Always liked the javelin/amx' ya you should of emptied the trunk in the previous owners yard, it's funny i have the same craftman 1/2 drive i bought in the 70's, keep'em coming thx.
HI CHRIS ,, HOPE YOUR FEELING BETTER ,, YEARS AGO I WAS AT FORT DRUM THEN TO FORT DEVEN MASS. COOL...THANK'S FOR HELPING THE VETERAN'S..THANK'S FOR THE JAVELIN STORY..
I was watching you try to remove that drum....from the get go I was Saying to myself....don't even start all this without the " Torch Torch ! "
Uhmm... you just need to unscrew the three little bolts clearly visible holding the drums to the hubs. No need for torches or the puller.
Yup that is a weird design on the rear drums on the Javelin.
Chris, you mentioned that you might miss working with other mechanics. We're all here for you.
Love and support from Malaysia. Love ur video update 👍🏼
The rear axle on the Javelin is pretty neat.. i'm SURE that's valuable to anyone into AMCs.. Great find on the service box.. I have an 89 gmt-400 love to put one on that!!
This cool car looks good 👍
Keep it going man… you’re doing a great job
As usual GREAT Video! GOOOOO GUS!!!
Love your work.. Ghandi from Yardley Pa.. #GetBetterSoon #Outstanding 🇺🇸👍🏿💯
That should be totally restored you just don't see to many of them anymore
So pleased to hear you are making a better living on YT now..Good luck to you Chris, you deserve it, and we love your stuff & style...
You are a “Fine Story Teller Chris” take your camera along with you!
Thanks man I appreciate that.
That old javelin is rough, but I can see through the rust to the pretty underneath. I hope she isn't used for parts and gets fixed up. I'd love to see you do a full restoration on one of these cars. It could be done over time and i think would make an excellent series.
Most definitely a rust bucket
My first car was an AMC Javelin. 72 small 8 auto. I drove it for 7 years and sold it for $500. The kid blew the engine and it eventually went for scrap. Oh how I wish I still had it.
It's a great thing how you helping out that fellow with the javelin
Like vid Cris, I hadn't paid attention to the paint until you cleaned it, at which point I realized it was the same color as the one I bought in 1970 just before getting out of the Navy. They were great cars in the day.
Chris, great use of the old head hub puller. I have one to use on my '57 Willys CJ5 - got it on ebay, so they're still available. They work awesome. Wow - that Javelin, once a really nice car, has some big issues.
The AMC/Dana model 20 rear end the castle nut keyway liked to shear off sending your tires flying. Fortunately companies like Moser make solid axles for the rear end. Once you do that that’s rear end is practically bulletproof.
Thanks for the video, I have a 72 sst 4speed that has sat since 94 rear is locked up the same. Maybe I could now break things loose.
AMX
Well, for anyone unfamiliar with AMC: The three small bolts that hold the drum to the hub on the rear need to be removed. Typically, one or two or all three of them are removed and lost over the decades since the cars were built. They don't really need to be reinstalled since the wheel holds the drum to the hub. Their main purpose was to keep the drums from falling off in the factory before the wheels are installed on the car. Other car companies used little flat clips which disintegrate the first time you pull the drum for service.
So, since he did not unscrew those three (all three were still present) small bolts, he used the puller. I was frankly surprised the bolts didn't break before the hub came off the axle.
That puller is very valuable for servicing the brakes in a 1964 or older Mopar or for serving the axle for the AMC Javelin. But it is not needed at all to service the BRAKES on the Javelin.
I don't think the drum would have come off with the screws removed. It was on there pretty good. Hub puller worked great
Knew an operator engineer in Detroit, his dad worked for AMC for years. He had a javelin and an AMX. They were his dads nice cars. He also had a lot of parts!!
Had one back in the 80s 290 v8 hush thrush mufflers with the duck logos them days are gone..
The edit from the small sledge to the big sledge, was perfect.
Glad your feeling better 😊
Please don't warranty that old craftsman ratchet, Just clean it up and get it working. You can't even buy those anymore so it would be so much cooler than some chinstanium consumerist knockoff of today.
Nice score on the BOX . Remove the door ,put your hose reel there ,binders or ratchet straps . Just idea’s,or fix it . Have a good day.
😃😃Sir u have every tool anyone needs 2 work on a project car...✌️✌️😂😂
Them old hub pullers work awesome because you can hit them with a sledge hammer, I paid 25 for mine at an estate sale and it saved my ass about a month ago on a 2009 ford taurus.
Noice! Just like Uncle Jesse says, if it don’t work the first time, get a bigger hammer.
I saw a javelin once when i was in 8th grade, it burned out and chirped the tires in second and third gear as it flew down the road. It left a serious lasting impression of that car.
At the time i thought it was ugly looking, now i can appreciate the cool factor!
Too bad it's it's in such rough shape..
Like the vintage tools.
Wouldn't mind seeing more of your side jobs , they're cool to watch.
Damn Chris I didn’t think your would show us the chop shop... nice lol
For me side jobs would be interesting to see as one video that spans many of them. You are good story teller. Please just consider doing that video.
Those tyres look scary, thought they where going to explode , 👍🇭🇲
Chris there is an AMC nut out there salivating right now. She is rough but she is restorable for an American Motors fan.
Love the show 👍greeting from Macedonia 🇲🇰
Your videos are so muh fun to watch. PS: who doesn't love the Javelin?
Cool that you're doing RUclips full time...
Strange splined axle!? Love early Javelins.
Totally foreign concept to me. Never saw one quite like it.
I watch the video on the Torino new roof clean paint up, but I’m gonna be honest that’s a way cool car and I believe that hang on that for a minute they only gonna go up in value
I already watch ur Utah journey with Jennifer ✅
Thanks for checking it out!
3/4 6 point deep impact socket always works to remove them useless wheel locks
In my experience, those types of wheel locks can be removed by simply using any deep socket that you can pound over the lock. It will usually grab enough.
Chris u are the man. In deff ur biggest fan. Wish u lived next door to me. 🍻
Gussman wanted to check out those maypop tires. 😂
Should put that tool body on the ram first job you go on with it you will say wow should have done this long before !
