    Gods was this such a tremendous improvement over the original NES Gradius. Both visually and musically. I don't like the insane difficulty but that's cause it's not my genre. Props to Warble for their masterful playthrough.

    That sfx sound like Contra and Super C for NES.

    • @PrekiFromPoland

      Actually it predated Super Contra when it comes to sound design. Some of the SFX are also from Getsu Fuuma Den, which Hidenori Maezawa also worked on.

  • @ringokfw1
    @ringokfw1 4 года назад +2

    This is a tremendous port. Heard that the reason why only Japan version available is that there are sound chips which are used in the cartridge are not licensed outside Japan.

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 4 года назад

      There's really no sound chip in this one out of the ordinary, it can be played on an NES with 60 to 72 pin coverter, like the Honeybee adaptor. There's no VRC6 or VRC7 chip in this thing (only LaGrange Point ever used the VRC7 chip anyway). There's some Namco games that used chips in them for sound, but this Konami game has the sound of your average NES title.

    • @hoodmistressreloaded
      @hoodmistressreloaded 3 года назад

      Not necessarily a sound chip, but more of a graphics chip (better known as the VRC4). For instance, the NES version of Gradius will only allow you two option upgrades while its sequels and arcade counterparts let you max out at four options. The VRC4 chip lets you bypass that two-option upgrade by allowing you four and a chance to rotate temporarily around Vic Viper. Not to mention, the chip also pushes this game to its graphical limits. I know it's only my opinion, but for a Famicom release, this game is beautiful. It sucks that Nintendo of America dropped the ball in releasing G2 in the West, but I understand that from a financial standpoint it wouldn't work; the VRC4 chip would've cost Jeff Bezos' current net worth to import back in 1988 (big ouch for Nintendo if it happened)

  • @thomas83lin
    @thomas83lin 8 лет назад +9

    Nice difficult game, feels much harder than Gradius 1. you almost have to do a no death run, cause once you loose your weapons, that's when it gets really hard. Just started playing myself so far I've managed to make it to @21:00 without loosing a life. I wasn't expecting that enemy to come up from behind. so i got killed loosing everything.
    edit: Just completed a no death this morning. honestly if you want to beat this game trying going for a no death cause it only gets hard once you loose everything.

    • @musican67557
      @musican67557 6 лет назад +2

      Using the tail gun and spread bomb, I can actually recover from the a death at the beginning of the stage. Spread bomb is powerful enough to take out the hatches and the balls in the speed zone, and can take out enemies from below at a certain angle. Tailgun is useful because so many enemies comes from behind and directly forward, making it convient to use it.

    • @hoodmistressreloaded

      Because Gradius 2 had a custom mapper chip called the VRC4 hooked up to the game, which pushed the graphics to its limits (like extra options and the crystal stage). Nintendo of America thought the hardware cost too much to import; thus the reason why G2 is (unfortunately) a Japan-only game.
      I know if I had the cash to buy a Famicom console, this game would be first on my list to play
