Same. Besides the Jap base set and CD promo Charizard I got them out a vintage collection with like 55 Holos, 10 black star promos and 40 something first edition non Holos. I got the entire collection for a cheap price so I got lucky
Collecting is not about "investment". Pay only what price you are comfortable in paying for an item, once you acquire it, treasure your collection. It no longer matters if it lose or gain value. That only matters if you plan to resell. If so, that would make one a speculator, not a collector.
to be fair most of these cards are actually super ugly. I completely agree, the new 151 set has some lovely artwork. The 1999 base set is of course iconic but the 151 SAR and full arts are very nice cards in general. Heck even the regular holos (Moltres, Flareon etc) have some excellent artwork. The 2020 sets (and many others) are simply too ugly/ too forgettable and there's far too many of them. People who pay £3,000 for a shmady card like that deserve to be ripped off to be fair
Buy low sell high lol counterstrike is the same way something drops gets inflated and crashes and 3 years after that is what the real market value is theres lots of examples like this
thankfully majority of the hobby did not pay those sky rocket prices its usually flippers and people that speculate. Normal collectors will not get burned especially if your long term
Had my base set holographic Charizard and Gyarados both stolen from me at a house party about 15 years ago. I worked at Kroger when Pokémon cards first came out and I would literally grab stacks of packs from the back area. "Steal once, pay twice" ‐ Metric
this is the time to buy these zards. They might go even lower, but if youre a collector who has a large older collection, putting these 10s in storage and seeing what happens in 10 years is no problem.
Still have the base set Charizard English and Japanese that I pulled 20+ years ago. Couldn't bring myself to sell it even at its highest. I don't actually have anything that I held as long as those cards, the idea of selling them felt like selling a piece of my childhood 😂
Same here! Could’ve made a fortune but I value my cards and the memories more than the cash. Cash is nice but can’t make me as happy as my Pokémon collection as a grown man. Doubt I’ll ever sell a single one no matter the price.
I feel that Pokemon will only go down in value the market is so saturated the only thing that’s worth investing is vintage and even at that the vintage market is taking a beating it won’t be till another 4 years the economy is back to normal I’m hearing people can’t afford to keep their employees so many layoffs good luck everyone it’s getting real
Mark my words! The new leaked Paldean fates full art shiny Charizard is gonna be on the this list! You’re gonna have betas throwing thousands at a PSA 10 due to fomo. While the alphas are gonna turn around and scoop them a year or so later for 1/4th the price.
Haha your right , almost all of pokemon is a bad investment, there are outliers, but 99% is a waste of time and money, people love to see the wins and ignore the losses Wait untill these modern cards drop by 90%+
I don't buy graded cards for this reason. Sure when I order a light play or NM copy I know there may be some scratches or a little whitening but I SAVE so much money! Also generally it's not good to buy cards when sets just come out. Most of the time they drop in value for months and then go back up.
Kanto Shark, Charizard_king24, Sean Bassik. A few names in the hobby right now that are all in bed together and up to no good. I would distance myself before it’s too late.
It’s usually a safe bet with WOTC era but when you mix PSA in it, things get hairy. I suggest buying the cleanest ungraded card you can find and then grade it yourself.
I knew about most of these other than the Evolutions Charizard holo. Last I checked about 8 months ago they were holding steady at around $160-$180. Glad I sold the rest of mine in 2021-2022. What a sweet card though, for too much under $85 they start to become a good long term hold again in my opinion.
Thanks, awesome video! I actually collect Charizards for my personal collection but without having watched this, I came to the conclusion that some of these were too high pop so I didn’t buy them. The only card I have on this list is the no. 1 in a PSA 10, which I purchased for about 30 bucks. Point aside, alternate arts also tend to perform better. Cheers!
This isn’t bad for collectors tho. But tbh I’m tired of the vintage stuff going for like 500 to 1000 a pack that’s ridiculous. I can’t wait for the market to drop so I can enjoy my childhood vintage packs.
Only charizard i own is the charizard v from brilliant stars. Which I bought for 90 not so long ago and graded a 10 from psa. Its the only one i like anyways because of the artwork.
you say worst investment of all time i think you need to say that different. buying the card now would not be the worst investment of all time so what your saying is only true if you bought during "Logan paul hype"
Don’t forget that these recent sold reports only show what an auction was sold at, not if the buyer actually paid. Always be weary of market manipulation
Thank you for the vid very insightful! That charizard on spot no 1 was one of my first two psa 10 purchases 😅 I paid about 70€ (~75$) for it meant as an investment 😂 i think it will stay i On sale for a while
this is why I only buy graded cards if I like them myself, if I never plan to sell them then I never lose more than I paid already. I also traded a shiny charizard vmax ungraded and $40 for an ungraded shadowless blastoise which looking back was a good trade even though I regretted it a month later.
It looks fairly close to the bottom but they could always swing either way. They are cheap enough now to justify there price though. I’d say it’s a buyers market at this point.
wow, who could have thought 9 of the 10 from this list is from sets that are readily available to crack in 2020-2021. Base Unlimited Zard is the outlier here, it would have been nice if they didn't overprint this thing to the ground way back when these people are not even born. I remember how there are loads of these overprinted base set, BS2 and LC ones sitting on the shelves for 20 dollars CANADIAN, in 2003, and no one ever wanted them. Here's an advice for people: whenever an obvious grifter/scammer tells you it is a good investment, run away as far as you can. I started collecting cards out of spite since March this year, to prove all these people wrong, and somehow I have not gotten burnt yet by buying Charizards. Cause I avoided all 10 of these miserable, obvious baits. I don't promise people the moon for value, but what I can promise is that whatever I buy can be resold for at least the money put into getting it.
I have virtually all Charizards from Base to the end of EX era. All mint, and none cost me more than £2-50, because I pulled them all from packs at the time.
OOF that's rough. I bought that damn zard promo from champions path for $75 CAD in a psa10 and it keeps bombing. Although remember that dark magician card that EVERYONE had 20 years ago? the one thats worth a few gs now lmao. I'd say hold onto that zard!
it is not accurate, the truth is all the pokemon cards drop huge in last two years. Not only the Charizard. It was that crazy expensive because the economy bubbles.
Not 90% drops, but this is because most of these were junk cards to begin with. If you can find a crystal ho-oh for even 70% off of its all time high please send it to me so I can buy immediately.
Yes very interesting and I like your evolution also.well played.very interesting that the cards most liked at time and graded are tanking price wise.and the ones graded least at as popular have a trend.lets see another pokemon.pikachu
I actually hate charizard now, they really need to stop shoving it in every single set it's not rare or special anymore same with shiny pokemon they do it way too often expecting people to go banaynays about it but it's just not working anymore.
I see this as a good time to buy. It’s not just Charizards, a lot of cards have gone down. Just a few months ago the Gengar & Mimikyu from Tag Team was selling for 1k, picked one up for $570 this weekend.
People don't understand they're in this hobby too late. The time to actually make money was in 2020. Y'all missed the opportunity to get the actually desirable cards at low prices. Too late. These cards now are printed to the moon. To the MOON! You have no idea lol

I don't feel bad for anyone who's had these loss. Even today people are still making these mistake. Some people never learn. Just a couple months ago during the Sun and Moon Alt hype, people were paying $1400+ for a PSA 10 Gengar & Mimikyu GX Alt. Now it's sitting back at $800.
Alt arts and super rare stuff like that will do great long term no matter what. Most of these were junk cards to beging with, a fckin regular art vmax and a regular reverse holo?? Really?? Lmao
These have to be young people with rich parents, or with their own money and are new to the hobby (or any collecting hobby). Those with disposable assets tend to spend frivolously, and sellers who know this will always be there to "catch 'em all"😏
All my Charizard purchases have lost money 😰
Lost value today… later in the future is another story
@@vegasjesus8120I agree a lot of people are not understanding that we are in a war and inflation is on the rise

Excellent video. Yeah I tend to stay clear of the 'zard unless its a very unique art. The zard from 151 is actually unique.
to be fair most of these cards are actually super ugly. I completely agree, the new 151 set has some lovely artwork. The 151 SAR zard is nice but the one from obsidian flames is ugly
People who sold this cards... Profit over 300%😂
Funny how the base set charizard is cheaper then moonbreon😂😂
All still better investments then any influencer crypto projects 😂😂
Buy low sell high lol counterstrike is the same way something drops gets inflated and crashes and 3 years after that is what the real market value is theres lots of examples like this
Never buy the drop never buy the hype
Charizard V Champion, the secret is to invest
in the PSA 2's, there are only 6 of those !!! 😁😁😁
thankfully majority of the hobby did not pay those sky rocket prices its usually flippers and people that speculate. Normal collectors will not get burned especially if your long term
Can’t believe the bgs black label sv from hidden fates didn’t make the list with its 10k sale lol
Black labels are too volatile to give any reliable values. PSA is a more accurate gage.
15k was the biggest
Those stimi checks were hitting back in the day
They sure were!
I spent 300 on a raw shiny charizard from shining fates it was like 6 months after release so i thought that was going to be the price. RIP
I just bought a gem mt 10 for 2 🤣

Morals of the story: Be first to market. Also, don’t be the first guy to buy it.
I'm surprised we didn't get any honorable mentions on this one 😅
The video was an extensive editing process, didn't have the energy at the end to include the honorable mentions

I believe I did a Top 10 expensive graded booster pack video a little while back.

It’s crazy how rare a PSA 7 shadowless Charizard is compared to PSA 9 unlimited Charizard.
Print run was way smaller for the shadowless
So is it safe to say, time to buy the dip?
#3 is the only one, the rest were ridiculously ovwrinflated to begin with and will never come within miles of those silly numbers again.
If its for collection yes, if to resell no ? Given how high the pop report is 😂
😂😂 I love it when people lose money from impulse buying and their stupidity
Basically sinkholes for those unlucky ones sad journey
90 to 95% off?? Seems time to do some shopping
pokemon is a hobby not for investment
If FOMO is the fear of missing out, then ROBI is definitely the regret of buying in.
Look at this from other side, you can buy all these cards in massive 95+% dip. I would reformulate this is best ever investment today 😂
Thats gotta hurt to find out what your psa 10 charizard card is worth now if you bought then. Ouch
Would you buy these cards now that they’re at the dip?
PSA10 First edition is the worst investment. Look at how much they went for during the boom compared to now.
I mean u can compare a wide range of cards between 2020 market and today’s market and it would be a significant loss.
Tru Dat
What about the topsun blue back charizard that sold for over 500k and is only worth like 30k now?
As epic of a fail as that was, it barely made it out of the list with I believe an 89% loss.
@Top10Pokemon There was more money lost on that one card then all ten on your list combined. But I guess percentages are higher so 🤷♂️
Well, I guess it sounds like a good time to buy a base set Charizard in PSA 8 or 9 😂
I agree👍 I rather have a base zard than any of the nagaba psa 10 eveelutions which already have a population of 10k
