It's not that simple. Pop reports are not as important as people think. You can have card with pop report 20 and it'd be worthless because no one really wants it. No one is grading it because no one give af. High pop cards which are popular are easier to sell like Base Charizard and always will be. New people are entering the hobby all the time and 6000-8000 pop reports are not as high as you think. How many pokemon fans are out there in the world? The most important factor is character popularity and hype. Much more important than pop report or how much stock there is. For certain items which are popular and there's hype, no amount of stock is enough.
fomo is still insane in 2022, people pay insane amounts for the first psa 10 of alt arts. Its ridiculous, people are really dumb with their money sometimes damn
I just traded someone the three charz from the sword n shield charizard premium box for one… I think that’s a win 🤷♀️ I guess we’ll see how much the three end up being worth in a few years.
@@BoneyRasputin probably a win. Considering the Vmax zard is the only hit from DA and hard to pull it will rebound. Those promo zards are going to end up in the same boat as the stained glass birds from hidden fates since everyone can just buy a box and get em graded.
I think XY/DP/HGSS would make up a lot of that list. I remember getting the XY shining magikarp promo as a freebie, I graded it this year and sold it for over $300AUD. It was probably worth $10 when I got it as a freebie haha.
I'm so glad you put Amazing Rares from VV and SF on this list!!! I picked up ALL of them (All 9) in PSA 10 for about $350 total a couple months back. Love the artwork and holo patterns, seemed like a no-brainer to get those at a low price of like $35 each!
Wow, surprisingly I have about four or five of these cards though ungraded. Didn’t know there was once that kind of value behind them. I don’t collect to sell though, I just like collecting
For me I’ve been collecting every version of Greninja with PSA/CGC 10 and so far I’ve been happy. I lost $20 from the gold star version but I also have a PSA 10 on a greninja with only 17 in existence
So funny this came in my feed. I took a break from collecting in 2019 and went on eBay to look at graded cards and couldn’t believe how low some of the cards I wanted back then are. It’s not even worth to a point to buy the packs. Cards that were very rare are super low rn.
There's a lot of things wrong in this video: Many of the high prices listed are not accurate in regards to price, much of the sold high prices are outliers. The PSA 10 Charizard from Champion's Path ETB was averaging $200 within one month of it's release. The $660 sale is definitely an outlier and doesn't accurately represent the market. Also, Champion's Path was released in Sept 2020, meaning you could grade those cards within the next 6 months for a fee of only $10/card. PSA didn't increase grading fees to $300/card until March 2021.
It’s impossible to figure the average price of a particular graded card, especially during the 2020-2021 era, when prices were so erratic. The point of the video is to compare the ceiling of a card’s value vs what it sells for in auction nowadays. And yes, CP cards were technically able to be graded at the $10-$20 range, but you weren’t getting those cards back in less than 6 months, which means some people spent a ton of money to have expedited grading.
@@Top10Pokemon Very true. Prices definitely were erratic then and it definitely would be hard to pinpoint an exact price. My point was that a price ceiling doesn't necessarily mean anything. The video makes it seem like card prices have crashed like crazy, but when in reality the drops aren't as wild as the percentage decreases are made out to be. Take for example the new Special Delivery Charizards - right off the bat, some of the first graded PSA 10 copies were selling for over 2k (Sept 5th as BIN) and then again on Sept 17th for $1130 at auction. Those are clearly outliers and we can see lesser value auctions being completed as well. We could run the math and find the depreciation percentages for that card now, which sells for about $250s-300s in a PSA 10. That doesn't mean this card is down in value 70-80% because an outlier doesn't give you a truly valid data point. Regardless, I would be interested to see how the one-off cards high end cards would compare from the peak to their value today.
A couple of months ago I bought a graded PSA 9 Charizard V for 20 bucks. Charizard is my favorite and I always wanted one so I am glad I waited and bought at the bottom. Awesome video!
The darkness ablaze Charizard Vmax has been slapped pretty hard. I remember it was going for around $100 raw. Now it maybe tops out around $35-$40 and 10’s go for like $100-$120.

Me. I bought an unlimited base set trio PSA 9 for $7800 end of oct 2020. It was less than what they sold for a couple of weeks prior so I thought it was a good deal. But they were just starting to crash. Sold them for $4200 q2 2021. Good job too, as they carried on dropping after that… It took a lot of trades through 2021 and 2022 to regain that near $4000 loss 😅
I made the mistake of sending in a bulk submission to psa during the hype. Then they got backed up and it took nearly 2 years to get my return and low and behold the market for all my cards I submitted were worth nearly nothing now. RIP. One thing I learned, timing is key.
Back when champions path came out I graded two of those charizard v's for $75 each with PSA. Sold the PSA 10 for $450 and the PSA 9 for $150. Was truly a wild time.

Yea, I think that was at about $100 when I was talking about picking up a PSA 10. I’m kinda liking the fact that it’s less than $80 now, makes me want to pick up even more lol.
Honestly none of this is surprising at all. The biggest takeaway by far is that using cards as an investment vehicle means you need to A) actually understand what you are investing in (which most modern flippers and stonkers don't), and B) understand that investment = time (as in, a bunch of time, not 1 or 2 years). Just because someone makes a card sound cool on a box break or says the stupid line that "iT cAmE fRoM aN eXpEnSiVe PaCk" does *not* make a card valuable, nor a good investment. Why people would spend $1000 on a card that is modern and completely speculative is a wonder to me.
