A good outro can make a bad song better and a bad outro can make a good song worse. A good outro can make a good song great, which is how I feel about this song.
This version of the song is so much more upbeat to the one people were looking for. like the songs saying: "congratulations for finding me after all this time"
Even ignoring the difference in clarity, the ending really ties it all together. I must admit to liking the sound of the pitch shifted lower quality version too, but it feels very incomplete with just the fadeout ending
It's comparable to hearing one of my favorite songs, but in like a John Peel session mix. It's still the same song, it's just played in a totally different way. But both are great.
The famous version of this that was used in the search was actually a live performance (recorded from radio). There's alot of differences in this demo mix. I like all of them!
I think the song is about shutting yourself away figuratively or literally because of the stress of life - locking yourself in the "subways of your mind" (which is a nice metaphor, like a labyrinth). I think they're referring to American style subways like a train station because you can check in and out through barriers, but it could also be a subterranean walkway. Any case, I think the first verse is: "Like the wind, you came here running" - you came running into the dark confines of your mind/home to hide from life. "Take the consequence of living, [here] there is no space and no tomorrow, all we need is some 'munication" - I think this is the speaker urging them back out; deal with the insecurities of life and overcome your fears to explore the world around you. In here there is no future or room for you to grow. All you need is to relate to people, to understand, and everything becomes less frightening/stressful/depressing when you have people to help. "Check it in, check it out But the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind" - this one I'm torn, it could be A) check IT (a reference to the "symptoms" or "excuse" in the last segment of the song) or B) IT is the sun that "can never shine" in the subways because they're too dark and complex to be lit by fleeting happiness, or C) IT could just exist for rhythm and they could mean "check in and out as you please but things won't get better". "There's no place For any sorrow Time for young and restless dreamin'" - this line is both reassuring and daunting: in life there is no place made for sadness, as life goes by too fast (it's why the person retreated to wallow their mind), but it's also positive - there's no place to wallow here, and WE DON'T WANT YOU TO! move on! It is time for "restless dreaming" again an oxymoron: life is a struggle, but it's for something worth it and something fun. Life is meant to be a bit rough and restless, but it brings us hope for tomorrow, don't be afraid. Then it's the chorus again. So ... The last bit: "Check it in check it out It's the summer blues Tear it in, tear it out It's the good excuse" This is quite easy, check the summer blues in through the barriers of your mind subway but this time, instead of letting them get to you, and causing you to wallow in the darkness, chuck them straight back out. 'check it' kind of works like a pun here - let it in so you can literally check it out, and then "check it out" of your mind. Same with the "excuse", peel the corner in and tear it out like a poster - rip out the propaganda in the subway you hide in that tell you to stay here. Get rid of any excuses you make to stay in this state, to not take the first step to recovery, confront them for what they are. TLDR: The overall message of the song is "you're hiding away again, scared of your own failures and fears, but you cannot ever make a single success like that. You'll have to come out of your hiding spot, face reality, and deal with being a failure half of the time if you also want to enjoy that half of success. You can do it, the voices of yours loved ones believe in you."

I like how much more... definite? The lyrics sound. Like he's putting more energy into his words in some of the lyrics. Not shouting, but like... the lyrical version of a punch.
I KNEW IT! i knew it was consequences of "leaving" and not of "living". this song makes so much sense. it is the story of a person that left a place, like his home, a band, a job... a person that left, and now intends to return but found out they have no place to go back, that the 'hole' they left empty was filled already. go find other places to be with a smile as your companion, because days passed by without you ever even "cheking in or out", and there is no place for you anymore. move on.

I had this song burned onto a CD when I was a teenager. I listened to it while I wrote the book that I'm still reworking as an adult, I laid on the floor and cried to it, I had grand plans to make a movie centered around it when I grew up, I was completely absorbed with imagining stories behind it, and now it's come home. EDIT: Yall by burned onto a CD I mean I downloaded the RUclips video of what we had at the time into an mp3 and burned it onto a CD. For some reason people are thinking I meant I had the whole song locked away somewhere. I'm in college yall I wasn't alive in the 80s
I am so happy that we finally know who made the song and that they're still alive to enjoy the benefits of their work. The song sounds even better now that we have the original cassette digitized.

Like the wind, you came here runnin'
Take the consequence of livin'
There's no space (Space, space, space), there's no tomorrow
All we need's communication
Check it in, check it out, but the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind
Like the wind, blowin' from somewhere
Let a smile be your companion
There's no place (Place, place, place) for any sorrow
Time for young and restless dreamers
Check it in, check it out, but the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind
[Guitar and synth break]
Check it in, check it out, but the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's a good excuse
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's a good excuse
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's a good excuse
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's a good excuse
[Guitar and synth outro]
The word dreamin' is actually dreamers. This is very obvious in the acoustic version FEX did in the studio interview. Listen to the 'r'.

The full song is even better, mostly the final part, god, how come they never became famous?
They did. Just now.
i mean they did now but sooo much amazing music just doesnt get out there and its sad

I will never forgive society for forgetting this banger
I think the song is about shutting yourself away figuratively or literally because of the stress of life - locking yourself in the "subways of your mind" (which is a nice metaphor, like a labyrinth). I think they're referring to American style subways like a train station because you can check in and out through barriers, but it could also be a subterranean walkway. Any case, I think the first verse is:
"Like the wind, you came here running" - you came running into the dark confines of your mind/home to hide from life.
"Check it in, check it out
But the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind" - this one I'm torn, it could be A) check IT (a reference to the "symptoms" or "excuse" in the last segment of the song) or B) IT is the sun that "can never shine" in the subways because they're too dark and complex to be lit by fleeting happiness, or C) IT could just exist for rhythm and they could mean "check in and out as you please but things won't get better".
"There's no place
For any sorrow
Time for young and restless dreamin'" - this line is both reassuring and daunting: in life there is no place made for sadness, as life goes by too fast (it's why the person retreated to wallow their mind), but it's also positive - there's no place to wallow here, and WE DON'T WANT YOU TO! move on! It is time for "restless dreaming" again an oxymoron: life is a struggle, but it's for something worth it and something fun. Life is meant to be a bit rough and restless, but it brings us hope for tomorrow, don't be afraid.
Then it's the chorus again.
So ... The last bit:
"Check it in check it out
It's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out
It's the good excuse"
This is quite easy, check the summer blues in through the barriers of your mind subway but this time, instead of letting them get to you, and causing you to wallow in the darkness, chuck them straight back out.
Hope Rockstar put this in GTA6 as a track for a LostMedia Station.

Let it be known on the November of 2024 one of the most famous lost media was found, a message for newer generations, Never Lose This Again, we shall now celebrate the fact that we found some of the most famous lost songs ever and they will forever never be lost again.
i still remember listening to the enhanced version on repeat on the last day of my national exams. man, what a time to be alive!
Damn, this song had quite a cultural impact (sort of)
"Let a smile be your companion"
Well, now, it is!
I hope the “demo” has the lyrics i hear, if not i will go do an everyone knows it moment
I love how it is not a remix, or a fan-made recovering attempt, but a pure original and the clear idea, which they tried to convey in a song in far 1983, remade by original, safe and sound musicians.
I didn't participate in finding the original song or its creators, but I am so proud of those people who did, and of those who made this song 40 years and remade 3 weeks ago.
Thank you all for investigating another Internet mystery even after those failures and confusions. And Thanks to the FEX for that they unknowingly created the biggest Lost Media mystery, now successfully solved.
This will go down in history, after 40 years of searching, it was finally found.

@maregaonodera917 It's been 40 years, since the first time the song was heard was in the 80s.
@derekeltunastuto oui certe mais avant 2004 elle était pas perdu

No wayy😭I'm closing 2024 with this, thank you..
THIS IS UNIRONICALLY SO TRIUMPHANT TO HEAR AFTER SO LONG YOOOOOOOOO
I like how much more... definite? The lyrics sound. Like he's putting more energy into his words in some of the lyrics. Not shouting, but like... the lyrical version of a punch.
I never thought this song would actually be found
It's a great day for music lovers, I hope the members of the band speak in public soon
No matter what... this song will always be Mysterious, to me!

Wow! Like, tears came from my eyes as soon as the vocals started. Feels like this song has been waiting 40 years to be heard in full quality
We looked for him, we found him, and now he's ours.
I KNEW IT! i knew it was consequences of "leaving" and not of "living". this song makes so much sense. it is the story of a person that left a place, like his home, a band, a job... a person that left, and now intends to return but found out they have no place to go back, that the 'hole' they left empty was filled already. go find other places to be with a smile as your companion, because days passed by without you ever even "cheking in or out", and there is no place for you anymore. move on.
We _made_ a way back
This actually kind of has me emotional.
I was losing hope that this mystery was ever going to be solved.
It's great to be alive for moments like this

Pretty cool how this is “new” 80’s music lol. A song that encapsulates the spirit of the 80’s really well released officially in 2025. That’s cool
The tone of the "lost" version felt like a fleeting memory of a person you deeply cared about, while this sounds like a reunion with said person
People keep saying internet is stupid but look how one song reunited so many people just to find it.

This is and will always be the classic. No matter how much I love Goldrush, Talking Hands and Heart in Danger. Without this song, we would have had nothing. It's the OG. It's the absolute goat. Peak FEX.

This should NOT be forgotten again
oh it absolutely won't. it's part of history now
personally been following this song's search for almost 6 years, cannot imagine how glad i feel to hear this to be finally found.
Man seriously had TMS on a CD and didn't even tell us?
I (do not) believe you
Bruh why do people just make up shit like this on the internet? What do they get out of it?
