    This is perfect. I have been playing a while and never really got the hang of fishing. I certainly like fish wraps though! The text and graphics added make sense and are a welcome addition. There are lots of tutorials on all sorts of things and this is the best fishing one I have seen. I learned quite a bit and you did not waste time with nonsense. Thank you !!!

    What a great video.
    Just want to add, you can actually catch fish in water where you can't see any, but it is slow going. Fish will travel a fair distance to grab a bait.
    Also, if you think you will run dry on stamina while reeling a fish in, you can walk backwards (if possible) and the fish will be grounded where you can then pick it up.

    • @darkedudes
      @darkedudes Год назад

      the walking backwards is the protip right there! :D

    I've found that not waiting for the fish to strike (i.e. for the float to send out ripples) is the best. Instead, I strike when the fish runs for the bait but is still about a yard short of it. It means fishing in a spot and adjusting the viewing angle such that I can see down into the water. Fish will often circle the bait or swim past it to one side. Striking is a waste of time in such cases. Instead, wait for the fish to head straight for the bait and when it's about a yard away, tap the RMB to strike. It'll hook the fish every time. If I wait for it to reach the float and cause a ripple, I'm often too late on the strike.
    If you're reeling in and can see that you're going to run out of stamina, stop reeling and press S to walk backwards up the bank/shore. That doesn't use any stamina and you'll drag the fish out of the water. You'll 'lose the catch' but you can run forward, put the cursor over the beached fish and press E to scoop it up.
    Another tip is to not cast out too far. About 8-10 yards is good as you can see into the water more clearly and it takes less stamina to reel in the fish. It's tricky to judge but if I hold the LMB too long and cast out too far, I immediately reel in till the bait is 8-10 yards away.
    If fishing close to my base, I try to clear out any schools of fish entirely. I don't have hard testing data on this but my sense is that if I leave one or two stragglers, they'll still be there when I return. If I clear out all fish, new schools will have spawned when I return a few days later. So I always scan the waters thoroughly and even if there is just one Perch left cruising the shore, I'll fish until I've got it. That clears the spawn area for new schools.

    To add onto the "fish cave" theory, there is a small chance to generate a dead body with a runestone near underground lakes. Next to them will be a fishing rod and some bait.
    The runestone talks about the man's last day before he died, trying to stay alive by "what the lake provides", which would indeed be fish.

    Nice tip that would consistently get me over 3 times as much fish as my buddy I was fishing with is cast basically right on top of or just past the shelf where the depth drops off. You'll get a lot of tuna that like to hug that area and zoom past but the pike still frequently get out there as to the perch as the tuna can be a little stingy sometimes. Also having played since launch the food update really has me looking at fish wraps saying "look at how they massacred my boy".

    That bit of the video of catching the tuna in the ship by having the fishing pole out while at the tiller? Brilliant. I had no idea that could be done (I know about sitting with your bow out in case of Serpents, but never once considered my fishing rod) and that is going to change how I fish on long trips.
    Also enjoyed how succinct and to the point this video was. I look forward to your next video!

    It is possible to catch more than 1 fish per bait as long as you don't completely reel in you line or put away your pole. As bait is only used when you initially cast out your line all you need to do is reel in enough (about 3 meters remaining) and drag the fish onto the land to grab. Then while the line is till hanging out maneuver yourself so the line dips back into the water (having a pier works really well for this).
    The best results I've had was fishing in a boat with 1 meter of line hanging out and slowly sailing back and forth along the shallow water near the shore. Sitting in the drivers seat dips the line into the water and standing up pulls it out. Fish are automatically hooked if the boat is moving when they bite so you don't ever have to tap the reel button.
