I was at No Nukes, I sat behind the stage. It was my second time seeing Bruce live. I cannot put into words how electrifyingly amazing his (and the ESB) performance was. I was hoarse for a week and a ball of sweat as I left the Garden. I watched the movie last night with my family. It brought me right back to my 20 year old self- very happy this footage has been unearthed, remastered and released. There will never, ever be a performer like Bruce Springsteen. Just awesome

I believe he pulled Courtney Cox up on stage during dancing in the dark.

I don’t have many regrets but having had a chance to see him @ both the Bottom Line 10 show showcase and No Nukes and not going….years later, both are legendary. I think Bruce may have played 2 nights @ No Nukes. Saw the first night and that show went on until after Midnight as I recall. Doobies closed the night and I had nodded off. It is wonderful now, at 65, the whole show, or most of it, is available. Glad you got to go. I remember hearing Tom Petty saying “why are they booing?” “They’re not booing. They’re yelling Bruce.” “Well, I’m about to go on and isn’t that the same thing?” I’m paraphrasing but that was my first clue that I had missed something special
the day of the concert I turned 20 .. now I'm 62 .. it's always the same emotion. God bless the Boss

April 12, 1976, my 18th birthday. Born to Run tour, Johnstown, PA. Still one of the best shows ever. Made a fan of me for life.
i was at one of the shows, looking at the movie and video's reminds me of all who have passed since that night. i was with my best friend and brother Bruce yes i know... he loved hearing every one yell Bruce. He passed and like those in the band they will forever be with me.
His music saved me....it is my medicine,my doctor,my friend,my guide and my mentor.....

A local Los Angeles radio station would have free movie screening for fans including "No Nukes". I was already a fan with "Darkness" released and I went back to the previous three albums. The concert movie was terrific with the various musicians. But when the segment of Bruce and the EST played many of us watching was amazed. What a fantastic performance. Years later I understand that there was so much more to the performance. Soon "The River" album and tour started and we attended the concert at the L.A. Sports a
Arena. I will never forget that night.

He was the only guitarist on Born to Run. Little Stevie may have played on two tracks. I know because I was reading something he had written and I was shocked. I know he was on that tour but…anyway, Bruce can play. Not like Nils Lofgren, who is a virtuoso but it’s only rock and roll….and we like it
I was there too. 15 years old with a bunch of high school friends. It was amazing.
I was at a Bruce Springsteen's concert in 2013 at Hanging Rock in Australia and Jimmy Barnes was the support act. My Wife and I had front row seats. Something told me not to go there. We stood at the side. A young man collapse next to us and his girlfriend was screaming for help. I ran over to him and noticed he was choking on his vomit. I quickly rolled him over to his side open his air way.
I revived him before the medicis had arrived. Believe it or not I was meant to be there in that moment. I'm so happy he survived and his girlfriend hugged us with pure love for our help.... 💗 There's a reason for everything.

Just listened to the audio, will check out the DVD this weekend. To be honest, the set list is almost identical to those played on the 1978 tour, captured extensively on the 978 radio show 16 disc (Yes!!) set. But, what makes this stand out is he plays "The River" to a virtually silent audience which is captivating, worth a watch/purchase on this alone.

@Barbara Guest The song never declared that the war was over, it was a protest song against the on-going Vietnam War. The line is "War is Over, If you want it". In other words, it is up to everyone to stop it. It wasn't rhetoric because 14 months after its release, the US pulled out of Vietnam.
As far as nuclear power goes, planned nuclear capacity expansion began to slow as early as the late 1970s because of a number of factors that included public opposition. The reactors that were online at the time are now being retired, they are not being replaced with nuclear power. They are being replaced with solar and wind powered sources. So that wasn’t rhetoric either.

I'm still in the dark on just how popular he was before Born in the USA.
I know the River was a number 1 album but just how big was he before Born in the USA?
He had a bit of a cult following but he wasn't a celebrity. He hadn't 'arrived' until Born in the USA. He had been huge (even legendary) in Cleveland since the early 70s. My very hip cousins on the West Coast hadn't heard of him yet in 1977. Born in the USA gave him commercial success but hard core fans knew of his masterfull performances and recordings for at least 12 years prior.

The River was a number 1 album with a top 5 single. Hungry Heart. (A lame song... If I may say so...) The Album sold 2 million copies it's first year and was number 1 on the Billboard charts for 6 weeks straight. I think that was the breakout for Springsteen. I'm not a fan of his but I find him to be one of the most fascinating figures in rock history. I'm in that post Boomer Generation that doesn't care for his music but the fact he was ever as huge as he was in the 1980s is one of the best marketing gimmicks in the history of the consumer society. Bruce Springsteen and Hulk Hogan were both the products mass media.
I'm not saying that to be negative. It was genius. He portrayed himself as the All American White Kid who went all the way. The price he's paid for that since is his lack of depth with post boomers who seem him as a relic of the 1980s in the same way Boomers viewed pre Rock N Roll artist prior to the rise of Elvis and the Beatles. You never see anyone under 50 or 60 sporting a retro Bruce Springsteen shirt or pulling up a Springsteen on their phones the same way they do other artists like Prince, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Credence Clear Water Revival Janice Joplin.
I think Born in the USA ruined Springsteen's cross generational appeal.
Again. I'm not a fan. Just trying to find out when he became a widely successful outside of the Northeast.

I grew up in New Jersey, so he was a musical giant for everyone there from the release of Born to Run ever onwards. Can't speak for the rest of the world.
