Roy Bittan is one of the most disgracefully underrated performers in the world. The man plays at an inhuman level of beauty.
The fact that he goes out of his way to make sure Roy gets credit tells you all you need to know about what a great "Boss" he is.
Roy Bittan, aka; the Professor has had such an extraordinary career with the E Street band, but also as a session musician and collaborator.
2 little known facts about Roy; He was nicknamed the Professor because he was the only member of E Street who had a college degree....and....when you hear any piano or keyboard on the "Bat Out of Hell" album, you are listening to Roy.
The Boss did all the 9 to 5 chores . Respect .

No one, absolutely no one, does it better than Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. His concerts are the absolute best every single time.
Nothing hits home harder and makes you aware of how short life is than seing photos/videos of your younger self. I'm now 60 and seems like yesterday i was 30, it's quite horrifying to know in the same amount of time i'll be 90 or even dead. When you're in your 20s and 30s you think "i'm young, i still have my whole life ahead of me", till you wake up and realise "holy sht, where did that time go?".
Well said, Nick.
My Dad's a little older than you & I'm struggling to keep up with him. He's teaching me how to use the battle rope correctly. Enjoy yourself.
Amen to that 💯
And when you consider how much time and energy he put into his career, the time had to go twice as fast. But such a lovely family!
At age 20, or even 30, you can't really imagine looking back at yourself from age 70, when you know, with certainty, you're a lot closer to the end than the beginning.
Second time I saw him in concert, he and the band rocked hard for two hours, Bruce dripping sweat, singing his guts out. Then the show ended and people were pissed. Two measly hours from Bruce? No encores? We were collectively furious. Next day the paper reported he postponed a couple of shows because he had the flu. He performed our show with a temperature of 103 or something. Two hours of amazing rock, with a literal fever. (Yes, I felt like a schmuck.) There's a reason fans call him the Boss.
Right… he still blew away other Musicians on their best day lol
The best of the best...a man of true grit!!!
Ok 🌷

Awesome performances by everyone, especially Bruce & The E Street Band. (Loved James Taylor & Carly Simon, too!)
Aside from his chronological age, nothing has changed really. Same Bruce. RIP Clarence🎷
As Great as Jake is , there was something truly special between The Big Man & The Boss .
@@martinobrien7110 I'm so grateful I got to see them a couple of times in the early 80s.
I knew Clarence from his time in the Keys. We spoke just a week or two before his passing. I think about him every time I hear a Sax.
Yes 🌷

OMG - that clip.... and look how terrific he still looks, how bright his talk is, how so vibrant and alive he is!
He is so brilliant still. Saw him in concert in London in 2016 and he was still playing 3 hour shows. He is a legend!
Seeing the Big Man brought a little tear to my eye. Such a presence.
@@SirVic42 Such a loss.
Of course! Human growth hormones have a wonderful effect on the human body. Testosterone also but the pure expensive ones run about 10-30j monthly . Yeah he’s come a long way from the working class hero to what he is now……a elitist snob-yet you all idolize him like he’s a god.
Hmmm...idk if it’s great to have people using words like “he’s still so vibrant” and “he can still talk” but I see your point lol
No kidding he's the same on stage. Saw him at 70 with E- street and there isn't a stage act that comes close to the energy they push out for 3 solid hours.
Absolute pro
And I saw Bruce solo at a small arena in Trenton and he was TOTALLY captivating every second ( and I hadn’t been a fan before that…but sure am now!!)
He last toured with the band in 2017 when he was 67
72 years young and he is amazing. Keep on rocking Mr Boss.
I appreciate that Stephen doesn't go all fawning fanboy with Bruce the way Jimmy Fallon does.
Professor Roy Bittan should definitely be acknowledged as a "key" member of the E Street Band. Amazing, gifted pianist.
He's the only E Street band member he kept when he broke up the E Street😬 Band.
Essential bro 😎
Watching his reaction to the video of himself at no nukes was priceless! 😍
Especially at 2:49 when he says “I don’t want you to beg”
The No Nukes video is brilliant. Highly recommend to all.
My autistic son’s 1st concert. He is unstoppable. He crowd surfed!..in his 70’s!
Man Bruce looks good!

Rock till you drop Bruce! We love you!🙄
looks like he stopped eating!
@@jamessollazzo4860 He stopped eating sweets cause he's sweet enough!😒

02:50 just how he starts the song without any counting in and the band is on point! Sure, they knew it was coming, but they needed to be 100% concentrated during the break to not be surprised. That's how you can tell that Springsteen is the Boss!
I always remember that interview with Max Weinberg, when he said that's exactly why he is staring at Bruce without pause every night, because when Bruce counts 1, 2, 3, 4, he's the one who has to know by 3 what follows after 4 haha
The E Street Band is an incredible, incredible band.
I have seen them do that 100 times live- and I get goosebumps every single time.
Incredible synergy.
Saw him live,he is incredible.
Saw him 3 times with the E Street band, once solo.🙄
I was at the No Nukes Concert that night! Awesome!
I saw him perform in 1975. Will never forget it!
Epic, just plain epic

What a man. True leader.
Band leader...politics, not playing with a full deck.
Man he's cool.

I love how Steven Colbert always conducts his interviews, but MOST especially this one with the BOSS!
⭐️❤️⭐️❤️⭐️❤️⭐️
He is so warm and friendly and at ease. Sometimes it feels like he is just kicked back on a patio, chatting with friends. But, that said, no one is as skilled at listening as Trevor Noah
@@dixiedawnmillergoode6850 They’re both outstanding at what they do. They should interview each other one night.

If you look at the concert video, I think he's playing the same guitar he brings onstage in the other Colbert video that's part of this interview. Amazing
he is
I’m pretty sure Obama was looking for someone who had amazing pauses in his speech, too… Definitely an amazing pairing with Bruce&Obama!!!
Half of the podcast is just silence 🤪
Pauses are necessary… sort of like music.
Like the space between the notes
Bruce used to jump on the tables at CBGBs - best live performer!
Love you young Steven, discovering Bruce with The River. I go way back to 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy). Beautiful visual song, wonderful album. Love
He is incredibly talented in music. I’m now more more impressed with his insightful and intelligent way of thinking n speaking. Great guy!
The best 🧡🍁

Music keeps you young!!!
My brother was at the NO NUKES concert and like Stephen I was still in School and Dare not strike at that time. Now when I was in University it was altogether different x!
The Boss ❤️
I never knew what to think of Springsteen until I heard speak with Marc Maron on the WTF podcast and was really impressed. It’s been awhile but I remember him being surprisingly deep and thoughtful.
I used to see Marc perform at Luna Lounge in NYC almost every Monday back in the late 90s/early 00s. He often was on the bill those nights with Louie C.K., Sara Silverman, Louis Black, Greg Fitzsimmons, Zach Galifianakis, and Janeane Garofalo. It was a free show, more like a comedy workshop. It's amazing to think how far these folks have gone with their careers.

One of your best interviews, Mr. Colbert. Thanks.
The Boss!
I love Bruce. The first concert I saw was the born in the USA. His beautiful and extensive song writing has spoken to me and kept me company through the decades. Thank you Bruce 💕
Wish I had that much energy at 20!
He's awesome 👍
Definitely the Boss love you Bruce ✌💙 from Montana
Bruce has always given it 100%......... Thank you Brother Bruce......🙏
I love that "Born In The USA" is on the front of that book, iconic and in your face. 😃
Can someone tell me why Bruce Springsteen is not the poet Laureate of the USA?
I missed out on so much back in the day. I am 72 and just now found Bruce. It is depressing. My parents were iron fisted strick.
I saw Bruce about 6-8 years ago. He played a hellofa set. It was a rocking show!!
LEGENDARY truly
So much respect for Bruce that he didnt make a lot of jokes or anything
I love hearing from the artist about the meaning of their songs.
Well, feelings don‘t grow older. Bring it on, boss.
One of a kind seen him live over 30 times and I adore him…….nobody comes close to him…..god bless him and keep him well xxxx

44 years later still going strong
Man, I tell my sister all the time I think of her when I hear "The River"
THE BOSS!
Love Bruce so much. He's awesome. Always
I was -2 in '79. In between generations I think....XY. First tape I ever bought....Queen live at Wembley Stadium 1986. After Millenial Generation.....gen Z or AlphaBetaGamma. I appreciate Springsteen more has I get older....rock to country.
So grateful he (& I) live in the age of film -- he will be around for (hopefully) generations . . .
Clarence ❤️ 💕 ❤️
The Greatest Rock n' Roll showman!
Amazing talent 👏. Same person he was back in the 70's.
Wow..He looks 50..great shape!!! Much ❤🐿🍀🌵
Oh God , Clarence the Blast made the E Street Band . From someone who was at
Hammersmith that magical night .
I’ve seen him many so times. He’s a phenomenal performer, as is the E street band.
I was 15 in 1979..... Time Machine to go back in time...would land me in Buffalo in 1978 to see Springsteen...then go to the Nukes Concert..!
Life is crazy man, short and crazy

I had a whole ass bootleg of that show for years. When they released it officially, I loved it, but I cherished those bootlegs

Our Boss
BS is an musical icon & legend full stop!!!!!!
Long Gone Lonesome Blues by Hank Williams. Old man Bruce couldn’t remember it, so here you go 💛 “I went down to the river to watch the fish swim by…”
This Bruce Springsteen is why caring loving parents encourage their children to not be on drugs or alcohol point and fact
First time I saw Bruce was in Central Park. I went to see Brewer & Shipley, who were on first and who I loved. Anne Murray was the show closer and almost everyone left before she came out on stage. I felt bad for her but whoever put her on that bill was a fool...
I used to rent that video to tape that part when making a mixed tape for a few of my older friends who turned 30 in the late 80s-early 90s. Ah, the days before digital & streaming. 😂🤣
i was at the no nukes show, they brought bruce a cake and he threw it in the audiance.
I had the great fortune to see him on Halloween night, 1980, in L.A. Believe it or not, the show opens up with his band carrying out a coffin, they start playing, and Bruce
jumps out of it, plugs in, and they tear into a killer version of "Haunted House"(1964). Amazing show!
Fucking legend
To see an 80 Superstar have a comics dealer himself.
In my area it said that the late show wasn’t new yesterday (after I heard there would be a Bruce show soon). Looks like that wasn’t right.
He’s so cute
I was at that concert. Where has the time gone?
Long Gone Daddy, Hank Williams? That's a good source.
I miss the Big Man.
Clarence isn't with us, that is the difference.
It was nice seeing him in the clip. 🥰
I was at this show
I caught Springsteen and Company’s show at Mile High on his 36th birthday. Boss doesn’t take birthdays off, apparently.
I hadn't really listened to his music until I saw the movie Blinded By The Light. That really made me sit up and pay attention to the music, the lyrics and how it made me feel. Then I saw him in Western Stars and it blew me away.
Wow. I don't think I've ever watched Bruce watching himself perform. heh.
Man, he reminds me to much of Robert DeNiro here. Not in looks, but in temperament and behavior. Especially that funny little laugh.
at 4;22 he says he felt still like a kid, huh, lol so true some take longer to fully mature, nothing wrong with dat, he is so honest!, seems some even at 74 think they know it all and the out come was his incomepteance almost destroying our neighbour to the south? up here we wear the masks now, will see what winter brings, we will try, hope u do well too, I hope it does go away soon too, this has shown us so much work we need to do inorder to be ready to help others with proactive measures not reactive? just expressing ,
Bruce now looks like a mix of De Niro and Pacino 20 years ago
I don't even care for his music all that much, I just like his energy
When they show the no nukes concert clip what song is that????
Quarter to Three
The only two I'll pay to see these days are Dylan....and the Boss!
That day my son became 26 days old.
