  • Cinematic lighting is hard. Today I look at some lights that make it easier. The one and only ‪@aputurelighting‬ Aputure LS 600d Pro. Extremely versatile, and powerful. An integral piece of the studio lighting puzzle, and also has great abilities for daytime exteriors. A must have for photography or filmmaking. I also take a look at the Aputure MC pro kit, and an Amaran 300c with the Spotlight se 36 degree attachment. All 3 setups are great. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Cheers

    • @BlaineWestropp1
      @BlaineWestropp1  7 месяцев назад +1

      hey thanks! I think the daylight/bicolor is totally dependent on what type of work you shoot and what type of lighting you need most often. I like the daylight units. powerful, can get a lot of jobs done, can do a lot with daylight units, and when you have something you need to have more options on, you rent. that is how I look at it.

    • @Sniickerz_CH
      @Sniickerz_CH 7 месяцев назад

      @@BlaineWestropp1 Thanks for the quick reply! Well, I am both working as a Director and DP, often on very low budget shoots, some with more resources, so it varies a bunch. The versatility of the bi-colour is great, but the punch of the daylight ones is something very interesting! And gelling a light also reduces quite some power. I might go with the 600D Pro and an Amaran 300C for the versatility!

    • @BlaineWestropp1
      @BlaineWestropp1  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think thats a smart move. my point in gelling, is that you can get a 600d for the output at daylight, then gel for tungsten. where if you go the bicolor route, you dont have the punch in the daylight. I dont know how the light loss from gel compares exactly to the lower output of the bicolor though. also, you cant go wrong with the bi color either. I am often times not operating with the light at 100%, but it is nice to have.

      I was Gaffing on a shoot not too long ago and the DP wanted to use a 4K HMI even though I said there was no way we could get it to the location... We were shooting in a cavern on top of a mountain and the production didn't get us any way of carrying the geni and the light. We got on location and we pushed the geni about halfway until we had to cross a river. Same price but more output.

    • @BlaineWestropp1
      @BlaineWestropp1  7 месяцев назад +1

      Aputure supplied the lights. that is all. they didn't have a say over this video, nor do I have any benefit to tell you to buy their lights (other than the fact that I use them all the time on all of my shoots, and I have recommended them for years. here are my thoughts. I have not used the nanlite so I cannot comment on it. I have used the 500's. I don't know about the noise on the 720, but the fan noise on the 500 is definitely audible and can be picked up easily by a mic. on the 600d that is not the case in my experience. also.. I have just really fallen in love with sidus link. it is an incredible tool and allows you to operate any aputure or amaran light, make groups, save presets, etc. so that I really like. is the 720 weather proof? couple months ago I was using a 600d in the pouring rain, we covered it but it still got wet. no issues. yesterday I was using it in the snow. no issues. that I like. and lastly.. ive had an aputure 300dii since it came out. I have circled the world with it, banged it around, shipped it, checked it in all sorts of bags where it wasn't protected, and it never had an issue. that I also like. I would analyze the Photometrics and the color metrics of each as well (which I dont know off the top of my head).

      @@BlaineWestropp1 Just to be clear in case it came off wrong. I didn't mean to imply your biased cause you might get paid(which honestly would be totally fine in my opinion, the getting paid part) i just didn't know if you are contracted and thereby allowed to give an opinion at all(:
      I do agree and also prefer the 600ds.
      sidus link is amazing
      The Forza 720Bs have a higher output but no water resistant housing.
      One plus for the Forza 500s is that you can adjust grenn/magenta.
      Fan noise is worse definetely.

    • @BlaineWestropp1
      @BlaineWestropp1  7 месяцев назад

      @@The_Daliban didn't come off wrong at all. I am not being paid, they did send the lights though, so I guess there must be at a minimum a sliver of bias. but.. I have 2 Forza 500s I use them all the time. my choice units are the aputure and that has been the case since I got the 300d. even down to little things like the yoke.. the yoke on the 600d is how a yoke is supposed to be. when you loosen it the light doesn't move. it doesn't fall forward or back. it stays where it is, you move it, then tighten. the ballast snaps onto a stand, my Forza ballast hangs onto it with a strap. I am not saying dont buy a Forza, I mean I bought 2! I just like the overall experience with the aputure units more.

    • @The_Daliban

      @@BlaineWestropp1 well i know, the technically not getting paid -but Arri send me this Alexa35- males sense.
      Since you got both you seem to have good reasons to prefer the 600s
      Was looking into the forzas, but don’t own any. Can just confirm the noise and less rugged feeling build.
      The yoke think is really annoying. Especially if you never worked with them(:

    • @BlaineWestropp1
      @BlaineWestropp1  7 месяцев назад +3

      at 5600k, and 1 meter:
      600d pro: 22150 lux
      600x pro: 16060 lux
      600c pro: 16450 lux
      so the 600d pro is about 38% brighter than the other two, which aint bad at all for the other 2. Since the other 2 operate at a similar intensity at 5600, I would be fine with either one. I still lean towards the 600d pro without a doubt. it is nice to have the power, and then you make arrangements for when you need color. there is no right or wrong answer, only preference.
